The feature debut of renowned music video director Colin Tilley will be shopped at the upcoming American Film Market.

“Eye for an Eye,” a sinister revenge horror set in the marshlands of Florida and starring Whitney Peak, is being launched at the market by HanWay Films, which is repping international rights. WME Independent is handling domestic sales.

Alongside Peak, S. Epatha Merkerson also stars, while the additional cast includes Golda Rosheuvel, Finn Bennett and newcomer Laken Giles. Casting was handled by Jenny Jue. The script was penned by writer and artist Elisa Victoria, who specializes in classic folklore and pop ephemera, adapted from one of her own graphic novels “Mr. Sandman.”

With production underway in Belfast, Ireland on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, HBO has announced five new additions to the cast, along with a new director.

New cast members include Finn Bennett (True Detective: Night Country), Bertie Carvel (The Crown), Tanzyn Crawford (Tiny Beautiful Things), Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen) and Sam Spruell (Fargo). Bennett plays Aerion Targaryen, with Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Crawford as Tanselle, Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Spruell as Maekar Targaryen.

Exclusive: Banijay Rights has hired Passion Distribution’s Claire Douglas as part of a rejig of its marketing and comms team that sees Andrew Dickens taking over the division.

Douglas, who had led UK distributor Passion’s PR and marketing efforts for nearly nearly a decade, joins Banijay Entertainment’s sales division as Communications Manager. She exited Passion earlier this month and previously worked at A+E Networks UK, Warner Bros and Disney.

She’ll work closely with Dickens, who has been promoted from VP to SVP of Communications and Marketing to lead the marcomms unit. Dickens has been with Banijay’s sales division for three years, having previously been a TV industry trade journalist and communications officer for government.

His promotion comes after Banijay Rights’ long-serving marketing boss Steve Quirke exited at the end of March. However, we understand Dickens’ promotion isn’t a like-for-like replacement.

Brian McCardie, the Scottish actor who portrayed the younger brother of Liam Neeson’s titular hero in Michael Caton-Jones’ historical drama Rob Roy, has died. He was 59.

McCardie died “suddenly at home” on Sunday, his sister Sarah announced on X. “A wonderful and passionate actor on stage and screen, Brian loved his work and touched many lives, and is gone much too soon,” she wrote.

Looking at the audience demographic breakdown of popular shows in the genre, we can see that their audiences are mostly made up of men, but not overwhelmingly. Beside Starz’s “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena” and UK’s “Britannia,” shows that men made up almost two-thirds of the audience, the other shows on our list below have a balanced gender breakdown. Sky has released the official trailer and announced the UK broadcast date of ‘Domina’ Season II with new episodes dropping weekly as double bills on Sky Atlantic and Now from 13th September 2023.

The historical drama series takes place during one of the most provocative and turbulent periods in Roman history. The series follows the extraordinary rise of Gaius Octavius, who became the first Emperor of Rome as Caesar Augustus, and his third wife, Livia Drusilla.

‘Domina’ chronicles the struggle for control of the Roman Empire, and of Rome’s Imperial Family, from a rare female perspective. In its first season, Livia Drusilla (Kasia Smutniak), the golden girl of the prominent Claudii family, returned to Rome after 10 years in exile, determined to regain everything that was stolen from her. When she married Gaius – Caesar Augustus (Matthew McNulty) – she was seated at the top of a fractious empire and a dysfunctional dynasty.

The first trailer has been unveiled for “Walls” (“Mur”), actor-turned-filmmaker Kasia Smutniak’s directorial debut that will world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

In 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine, leading to a mass exodus of refugees seeking asylum across Europe. Among the European countries offering aid and refuge, Poland was particularly generous but the country had also simultaneously commenced the construction of Europe’s most expensive wall along its entire border with Belarus to deter further refugees from entering.

A strip of land known as the red zone running parallel to the Belarusian border prevents anyone from approaching and seeing the construction of the wall. Smutniak undertakes an uncertain and risky journey into the red zone, where access is not allowed to the media, with the help of local activists and minimal technical equipment. Drusus’ Plan To Capture Rome

Domina Episode 8 begins with Drusus not complying with the orders of his stepfather to return to Rome. He allies with the enemy camp so that it will help him attack Rome with a much larger army. This was Drusus’ plan all along, as per the letter he had sent to his brother. Drusus’ ambition had surpassed what Livia had planned for the empire and restoring the republic.

The sixth episode of Domina Season 2 ends with Augustus announcing the match between his daughter Julia and Livia’s son Tiberius to unite the two families. Domitius reveals to Vilbia’s brother that it was Livia who hatched a plot to kill his brother to save someone else. Domitius feels he has the upper hand right now, but only time will tell if Livia is vulnerable or not.

Julia And Tiberius’ Wedding

Julia and Tiberius’ wedding is finalized by Augustus, and they have a hard time accepting each other as future spouses. Julia wanted to be free after two marriages and kids. This was sadly the state of women in that era, where male authoritative figures were the decision-makers, and women were not allowed to have any passion other than being dutiful mothers and wives. Tiberius is still in love with his ex-wife, Vipsania, and the new marriage...

MGM+’s “Domina” actress Joelle goes by one name like Madonna and Cher. She steps back in time this season and into a Roman world, post Julius Caesar as Tiberius’ wife Vipsania.

In the series, Joelle worked with the hair and makeup team to create a look fitting for the show’s themes, death, manipulation and a battle for control over the city.

The episode ended with Julia getting rid of her nemesis, the high priestess Turia, and being successful in amending her husband’s will.

This could be the longest episode of Domina season 2, for there is plenty to unpack from what we got to see. Agrippa and his wife Julia welcome another child. As Julia goes into labor, Agrippa passes away, possibly because of heart failure. This could be the most peaceful death any character has had in Domina Season 2. He passed after securing the future of his children, knowing Julia and his kids would be in safe hands.

The fourth episode of Domina Season 2 ended with almost everyone heading to meet Livia to help solve the crisis that has erupted in the family. Julia’s affair with Iullus was revealed by Marcella in the hope of discrediting Augustus and his daughter. The matter reaches a point where Agrippa and Augustus want the head of the man she’s having an affair with, and thanks to Livia’s intelligent move, they kill the wrong guy. Understanding her role in stabilizing the family, Augustus ends her period of exile, and she is back in Rome, possibly more powerful than she was before.

One of the BBC’s most-watched drama series last year moves to the present day for its second season. Women closer to Augustus feel Livia’s power has reduced as well, and they are keen on exerting their powerful female influence on him. The second episode of Domina Season 2 ended with the wedding between Drusus and Antonina finally taking place after going through tumultuous ups and downs. Gemina reveals to Scribonia that she is pregnant with Augustus’ child. She feels this will be the trump card she can use to get rid of Livia. BAFTA-winning producer Patrick Spence is leaving ITV Studios after three years, Variety has confirmed.

Spence, who serves as creative director, will leave at the end of March, ITV Studios managing director Julian Bellamy told staff via an internal memo on Thursday. Spence will continue to partner with ITV Studios on upcoming projects including “People vs. Post Office” (working title).

Spence joined ITV Studios in 2020 and secured several acclaimed commissions, including the BBC’s drama-romance “Ralph & Katie,” a spin-off of “The A Word,” about the lives of a couple with Down syndrome; Itvx’s “Litvinenko,” about the investigation into the death of Russian defector Alexander Litvinenko; the BAFTA-nominated Cold War spy drama “A Spy Among Friends,” also for Itvx; and post-pandemic frontline medical drama “Maternal” for ITV.

Banijay company Tiger Aspect has promoted head of drama Lucy Bedford to managing director, reporting into Banijay U.K. CEO Patrick Holland.

Bedford, who takes up her new role immediately, has appointed Gabriel Silver, previously director of commissioning, drama at Sky studios, as creative director, drama.

Bedford will be responsible for the creative leadership of the business, working closely with head of comedy, David Simpson and Silver, to build the slate of the scripted indie whose credits include “Peaky Blinders,” “Bad Education,” “Domina,” “Man Like Mobeen” and the upcoming “Three Little Birds.”

Credits for Bedford, who has been instrumental in building up the drama slate and evolving the company’s drama strategy over the past three years, include “The Good Karma Hospital” and “Litvinenko.”

Production giant Banijay has confirmed the appointment of Christian Wikander as its new global head of scripted.

Wikander joins from HBO Max Nordic where he was commissioning editor and VP of original programming from 2020 until this summer. He left his role after HBO Max halted the development of originals in key parts of Europe amid cost cutting by parent Warner Bros. Discovery. Wikander will join Banijay on 1 May 2023.

Wikander replaces Lars Blomgren, who is returning to his roots as a producer following his recent executive producer role on Scenes From A Marriage.

Christian Wikander, the scripted specialist who left HBO Max as part of cuts to the streamer in Europe this summer, has a new role.

He’s been named Global Head of Scripted at Banijay and will take up the post on May 1 2023, and Lars Blomgren is leaving at the same time to head up Media Res’ newly-opened international TV arm.

Wikander has been tasked with overseeing Banijay’s scripted slate globally, driving collaboration between the super-indie’s 50+ drama labels and identifying third-party acquisitions.

He was HBO Max Nordic’s Commissioning Editor and VP, Original Programming between 2020 and 2022, when his roles was made redundant, as Deadline revealed.

Other execs who left in the restructure included HBO Max Emea VP Original Programming and Production Cee Johnathan Young and Head of Unscripted Original Production Annelies Sitvast. In total 29 staff left the business.

The show takes places during a volatile period in Roman history and follows the rise of Gaius/Emperor Augustus Caesar’s third wife, Livia Drusilla, who is played by Kasia Smutniak. The second season will chronicle the struggle for control of the Roman Empire and Rome’s Imperial family from a female perspective.

Returning for season two are Smutniak and series regulars Matthew McNulty (Gaius Julius Caesar), Liah O’Prey (Julia), Ben Batt (Agrippa), Ewan Horrocks (Drusus), Claire Forlani (Octavia), Darrell D’Silva (Piso), Christine Bottomley (Scribonia), and Alais Lawson (Marcella).

New series regular Avery will play ambitious young aristocrat Domitius, who joins Gaius’ family through marriage and proves himself to be a thorn in Livia’s side.

Screenwriter and executive producer Muirinn Lane Kelly has died. She was 50.

The exec, who has credits for Waterloo Road and Mistresses in the UK, passed away this week. She was more recently an executive producer on Sky Atlantic and Epic drama Domina.

Kelly began her career working at Roger Corman’s Connemara studio for two years in the late 1990s before moving into development at the BBC, where she was script editor on shows such as Silent Witness and Waking the Dead.

She later moved to Ecosse Films, where she was a writer on BBC One’s Mistresses, which was later remade in the U.S. for ABC. She went on to write for BBC school drama Waterloo Road and Raw for Irish pubcaster RTE1 and then joined Bandit Television, where she became EP on two seasons of Dawn French comedy Delicious.

In 2019, she switched to Banijay-owned Tiger Aspect Productions,...
