Is Akshay Kumar back with another underwhelming film? After delivering the disappointing action comedy Bachchhan Paandey, a historical action drama Samrat Prithviraj, a family drama Raksha Bandhan, and a crime thriller Cuttputlli, he is back with his latest offering, an adventure action film Ram Setu, but this time he will not disappoint his fans completely. The makers have chosen a fascinating subject that hasn't been explored in any Indian film.
Abhishek Sharma's story was promising and has all the ingredients like adventure, mystery, science, action, and courtroom drama. The dialogues, direction & editing were good, and the background score goes well with the film. But there was more scope for better & engrossing writing here. The concept may have sounded more exciting on paper but the execution is mediocre. Also the below-par VFX is the biggest drawback of the film which has hugely affected the overall impact of the film.
The film starts on a good note and the first half of the film has little cinematic appeal too. But the screenplay can hold the audience in bits & pieces. The film tried to revive itself in the second half and picks up pace. It does become engaging and the surprise in the climax will be loved by most of the viewers.
Akshay Kumar has delivered a notable performance. Jacqueline Fernande was decent in her role but Nushrratt Bharuccha has nothing to offer here. Satya Dev got a well-written role and he has done complete justice to his role in his Bollywood debut. Nassar, Pravesh Rana. Jeniffer Piccinato, and other supporting were just fine in their roles.
