After Sarah hits the alarm button, you see the outside of the grocery store and you can hear the alarm going off. Seconds later the sheriff arrives. When he and Sarah go the the alley where they find Megan dead, there is now no alarm sounding. Usually only somebody from the alarm company can turn off an alarm that has been pressed.
During the opening montage it is visible in a written newspaper article that Tom was responsible for 7 trapped miners. However the verbal story concerns that of Harry Warden who killed 5 miners, for a total of 6 trapped men.
Sarah was attacked in the grocery store and we see her getting her wrist bandaged in the ambulance, however in subsequent scenes she doesn't appear to have any cut or bandage.
If you watch the scene where the man get his jaw ripped off using the slow motion function on DVD, you can notice that his jaw briefly reappears intact again after being initially ripped away.
At the showdown in the gallery, Sarah's finger switches positions in several shots. Once the finger is on the trigger, in another shot it's behind the trigger or not bent at all.
It was stated Harry Warden was in a coma for a year. When he wakes up; he gets up and walks normal. It's very unlikely he could get up being he was in that state for so long. He would of been suffering from muscle disuse and he wouldn't be able to stand let alone walk.
Though the movie takes place in February in a coal-mining area of Pennsylvania, all the trees are in full, green foliage, as they would be in summer, instead of being bare.
On the exterior of the police station the large sign reads "county municipal building". Municipalities are incorporated cities or towns that exist as their own separate entities within a county. The building would be either county or municipal, but not both.
When they go to the burial site in the woods, all of the trees are green and alive. There are dead leaves scattered around on the ground. They are not even the same kind of leaves.
In Pennsylvania, sheriffs are county elected officials who are agents of the court and have no law enforcement power in any way.
When the miner attacks Sarah Palmer at the old run-down house she flees for her life, and breaks through a boarded up glass window. However, considering the layout of the house, with the basement entrance being further down the hill, the window she escapes from IS in fact on the first floor.
Karen Baum's character Deputy Ferris's jacket reads 'SHERRIF' on the back (instead of sheriff).
As Sheriff Palmer lies in the gurney at the end of the movie to be loaded in an ambulance, you can clearly see his badge which says "Deputy Sheriff" and "County." This is despite the fact that the character is THE sheriff, and therefore not a deputy.
Sheriff Palmer carries a revolver type gun on his belt but in a few scenes you can clearly see that he has two extra ammo clips on his duty belt which would only be used for a semi automatic type weapon.
At the motel when Hanniger stops and passes the room when he hears Irene and the trucker having sex, we first see the trucker on top of Irene for a few seconds before switching positions.
However later when the sheriff is watching the hidden camera footage Hanniger passes by the window, Irene is on top.
When the two girls are running through the grocery store, a man wearing jeans and a denim shirt is standing behind the picket fence area in the upper left corner of the screen near the front doors.
In the scene where Ben Foley ('Kevin Tighe') is outside his home directly before his murder, there is a clearly visible reflection of crew member in his front door.
An ambulance near the end of the movie is marked with Kittanning (PA), where part of the movie is filmed. However, the film is set in Harmony, PA, which is over 40 miles away.
When Sarah and Megan are being attacked in the grocery store, they barricade themselves in the manager's office. Sarah then spends time keeping the desk in front of the door. Megan spends time unlocking the grate on the back window. Sarah whose parents owned the store and she grew up working in it should have known that there was an alarm button right next to the door. In fact there is a warning in big letters written on the wall above the alarm buttons saying DO NOT TOUCH. Only after Megan is killed does Sarah hit the alarm button.
When Jim Burke tells Deputy Ferris that "He's here, inside the house." it is not made clear how Jim knows this.
