The "Roommates" pilot wasn't convincing. Yet I'd say it showed potential. Episode two and three were a significant improvement. Nonetheless one thing for sure: it's not a must see and it clearly doesn't play in a league with "Friends", "How I met your Mother", "The It-Crowd" and co. This sitcom lacks originality. The characters seem likable but ordinary and it's too obvious where the narration is heading. Besides the whole thing is somewhat too nice and round, if you know what I mean. As far as I can see writers and cast appear willing to make this machine work. So among the shades of these serious problem areas "Roommates" smells like solid, nice entertainment - and yes, I know it's a little early to draw any conclusions.
In a short: Several fun jokes, likable actors but some problem areas. It could become a decent first season...

Just finished watching the pilot of this new so-called comedy, and was almost cringing at how really bad and unfunny this was. Terrible acting from everyone in it, nothing original story wise (not that I expect originality from a sitcom, but still), an obvious and annoyingly loud laugh-track lifted from someone seeing something actually funny and just one funny line in the whole episode (the Barney line). The characters weren't likable at all either, and the girls weren't attractive enough for me to keep watching. The show might get better, but for me this was the first and last episode I'll bother with. Don't they usually make the pilot good, so it gets picked up? Maybe ABC works the other way round...
just watched it and have to say its impressive. I've been waiting for a sitcom that i would like to watch more than once and the pilot was definitely one of them. if you liked friends and loved Seinfeld this probably will be your cup of tea. the storyline resembles a bit of last years sitcom "the class" yet the humor and wholesomeness is doubled. the cast has that ability to really punch out the jokes and carry the humorous vibe throughout!! finally two and a half men have some decent competition.it definitely feels like a Jim burrows sitcom as his work is epic in this field. i would definitely recommend this show for anybody who likes a funny, get involved with the characters kind of sitcom. cant wait for the next episode!!
If you watch the pilot episode only, you will probably decide this is really a bad show. However, with a little patience to watch the next episodes, it gets better and better. Of course, there are some unfunny and stolen jokes, but, the rest is worth to watch. I think it is similar to the show "how i met your mother" which keeps us waiting for the new episodes in those days and "roommates" was the alternative of it.
On April 29 2009, it was announced that Roommates would not return for a second season which is really disappointing news. Unfortunately, we couldn't see the end of the relationship between the characters which are almost like Ted Mosby (Mark) and Robin Scherbatsky (Katie); even the same lookings, same kind of humors. The other roommate James is a little bit different than "Barney", much similar to the character "awesome" in the show "Chuck". And Hope is the one who never retreats in any hard situation and makes her all jokes opening her eyes more.
As a result, this is a real watchable show which we cannot understand why it ended although it has the potential like the show "Reaper". Maybe, its commercials and luck weren't enough.
