There was once a time when it was completely unheard of for a movie star like Harrison Ford to become a series regular on a half-hour TV comedy. The closest we ever came to a Harrison Ford sitcom in the ‘90s was the time the Full House gang briefly attended Disney World’s Indiana Jones stunt show.

This article contains mild spoilers for "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice."
Ever since the first "Beetlejuice" escalated the obsession the ghostly Maitland couple had with Harry Belafonte to them trying to rid their home of the obnoxious Deetz family by making them do a possession lip sync dance number to "Banana Boat (Day-o)," it seemed like a given that a follow-up setpiece had to happen if "Beetlejuice" ever got a sequel. Of course, follow-ups to gags can be tricky, especially in comedy sequels. Some try to go bigger and wilder, such as the climactic news team battle in "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues." Others try and undercut or subvert the expectation, like when Phoebe Cates' Kate starts delivering a monologue about some trauma that happened to her on Lincoln's birthday and is cut off in "Gremlins 2: The New Batch." Others still merely pick up where the bit left off in the first film,...

While Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues was released back in 2013, no solid plan for a follow-up has been announced. However, this does not mean that Ron Burgundy is officially gone from the spotlight, as Will Ferrell looks to break out the character every now and then. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest instance of Burgundy’s mustachioed return came at the Netflix comedy special, The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady. Before Burgundy took the stage, he was introduced as “a living legend, a world-class lover and the No. 1 news anchor in all of Sunday.” Then, Ferrell sported a corduroy jacket and proceeded to joke, “My name is Ron Burgundy. I am a very big deal but tonight is not about me. …We are here to honor a champion of the gridiron, a great American, a father and a sexy man, a true patriot — until he was not.

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s comedy classic Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy turns 20 this summer. To celebrate, the movie has received a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release hitting shelves on July 2nd.
The anniversary set features two Blu-ray discs containing a remastered theatrical version of Anchorman in 4K Ultra HD, along with bonus content like cast auditions, deleted scenes, bloopers, and a music video for “Afternoon Delight.” Also included are an extended cut and the companion film Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie. Pre-orders are ongoing.
Ferrell starred in Anchorman as chauvinist San Diego news anchor Ron Burgundy, who experiences a rapid fall from grace when he reacts poorly to a female reporter named Veronica Corningstone (played by Christina Applegate) receiving a promotion to co-anchor.

Last month, it was announced that writer/producer Judalina Neira is developing a TV series reimagining of the classic sitcom Bewitched for Sony Pictures Television, aiming to turn it into an “irreverent hourlong” show. NBC clearly likes the idea of reviving Bewitched, because now Deadline has broken the news that the network has their own “Bewitched-inspired” show called Something Wicked in the works, and this one already has a star attached: June Diane Raphael, who may be best known for playing the character Brianna Hanson for the 94 episodes that make up the Netflix series Grace and Frankie, which ran for seven seasons.
Raphael is also writing and executive producing Something Wicked with Dickinson creator Alena Smith. A multi-camera comedy, the show is described as having a Bewitched-type premise and will also serve as an homage to TV sitcom classics. "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" usually tops lists of the best Will Ferrell movies, but for many, the silly, raucous classic that is "Step Brothers" is simply unbeatable. The tale of 40-year-old man-children Brennan Huff (Ferrell) and Dale Doback (John C. Reilly) struggling to get along after their parents marry and move in together solidified its two stars as the perfect pairing. Ferrell and Reilly had worked together on "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" but it was 2008's "Step Brothers" that truly tapped into their shared talent for sheer buffoonery.
There are other movies like "Step Brothers" but none quite manage the absolute stupidity of two 40-year-old men living with their parents and acting like spoiled 14-year-old brats. With Adam McKay directing and co-writing, the film was in good hands from the outset, especially since the man behind most of the best early-2000s comedies, Judd Apatow,...

This article contains spoilers for "Renfield." The Marvel Cinematic Universe has made post-credits scenes commonplace these days, with nearly every genre of cinema feeling free to utilize the space during the end credit roll to toss in additional material. That space used to be the near-exclusive domain of the comedy movie. Beginning somewhere around the 1980s, some comedies inserted scenes both during and after the credits (as in 1986's "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"), some included blooper reels (as in 1980's "Smokey and the Bandit II"), while others hid jokes inside the credits themselves (as in 1984's "Top Secret!").
While the mid- and post-credits format is still relatively young enough that it can be experimented with, that doesn't quite explain what exactly is going on with the end credits for "Renfield." A comedy-horror-action movie, "Renfield" is exactly the type of film to put little jokes and bits into the end credits,...

What Gladden doesn’t know is that the entire case is fake, everyone except him is an actor, including James Marsden, and everything that happens — inside the courtroom and out — is carefully planned. The trailer for this unique series is available now.

The movie Anchorman came out in 2004, starring Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, and Paul Rudd. Originally going to be about a news crew stranded after a plane crash, the film critiques 1970s journalism. The plot has plenty of comedy, and many lines involve improvisation.
Since improvised lines can be unexpected, it is easy for other actors to break character. As a result, Rudd can remember many hilarious moments he had while filming. He once recalled one scene where he and his co-stars struggled to get through it.

Anchorman is one of the most beloved movies of the 2000s. With its stacked cast and quotable hilarious scenes, it’s easy to forget that it wasn’t exactly a sure thing when it was released. The slow burn of the Will Ferrell-led comedy mostly played out in the then-thriving DVD market.
Without that second life, we may have forgotten the now-iconic scenes, often with actors who became even more famous later on. Paul Rudd, now starring in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, is certainly in that category. And he recently revealed that he had so much fun on the Anchorman set that one of the funniest scenes in the movie almost didn’t get filmed as intended.
The enduring popularity of ‘Anchorman’
The Adam McKay-directed 1970s newsman comedy got off to a poor start, the Independent reports. Critics seemed tired of Ferrell’s broad schtick as anchor Ron Burgundy.

When Will Ferrell went to college, he went to journalism school, where he was surrounded by classmates who went on to become reporters and anchors at both the local and national level. So it should have come as little surprise that, as he was dreaming up new characters to play, Ferrell would come up with the dim-witted, self-absorbed newsman at the center of 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. While the film performed respectably at the box office, it wasn’t the kind of blockbuster that immediately gets a sequel greenlit, so Ferrell moved on to other characters and other movies. But he felt like he had unfinished business with Burgundy, so he returned to the character nine years later for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. At the time, Ferrell explains why he felt like he needed to make an Anchorman sequel. (Click on the media bar below to hear Will Ferrell) https://www.

For Variety‘s Writers on Writers, David Wallace-Wells pens a tribute to “Don’t Look Up” (screenplay Adam McKay).
Parables are hard, which is why the best ones tend not to play like parables at all. Light comedy about the end of the world isn’t exactly easy, either, but “Don’t Look Up” delivers that, too.
In retrospect, at least, we now know Adam McKay’s early movies were about much more than they seemed to be about at first. “‘Anchorman’ was clearly, like, what the fuck happened to the television media, what a joke it’s become,” the director told Jessica Pressler in 2015. “‘Talladega Nights’ was about this weird stubborn pride that was showing up in America, kind of the corporate takeover of southern pride. ‘Stepbrothers’ was about how consumerism turns grown-ups into little kids.’” More recently, Joe Hagan wrote that ‘Anchorman 2’ was “the perfect instrument for McKay’s...

Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo reteam for a likable but throwaway comedy about two best friends going on vacation
The staggering success of 2011’s Bridesmaids – almost $300m globally, two Oscar nominations, a belated industry realisation that uh yeah women can do mass market comedies too – had an unlikely effect on its breakout star, and co-writer, Kristen Wiig. While Saturday Night Live viewers already cherished her as the show’s hit-after-hit Mvp, global audiences were now too let in on the joke and most of us waited impatiently to see what she would do next, perhaps expecting more of the same. But unlike the more obvious scene-stealer of the film, Melissa McCarthy, Wiig chose not to pursue a career headlining studio comedies, sticking mostly to the outskirts, choosing Sundance over Hollywood (she repeatedly turned down the offer to do a Bridesmaids sequel). Adam McKay burst onto the scene in 2004 when his debut feature Anchorman almost instantly became a widely quoted cult classic, and he solidified his reputation as one of the comedy genre’s leading lights by following up Ron Burgundy’s first adventure with Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Step Brothers and The Other Guys alongside his Gary Sanchez Productions co-founder Will Ferrell.
After directing long-awaited sequel Anchorman 2, McKay then transitioned into more dramatic fare, and he’s done a phenomenal job so far. The Big Short saw him win an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, while he was also nominated for Best Director and the movie itself picked up a nod for Best Picture.
His next effort fared just as well, with biographical satire Vice scoring eight nominations in total including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, while Christian Bale, Sam Rockwell and Amy Adams...

Sacha Baron Cohen shot to fame for playing multiple characters like Ali G, Borat and Bruno on television before taking them to the big screen, but with the exception of Showtime satire Who Is America?, the 48 year-old has spent the majority of the last decade tackling more straightforward movie roles.
That being said, he’s hardly been prolific, having only appeared in eight films in the last ten years, and even then that includes a voice-only role in Madagascar 3 and a brief cameo in Anchorman 2. Baron Cohen will next be seen in Aaron Sorkin’s prestige drama The Trial of the Chicago 7, which might lead you to believe that he’d made an effort to branch out from the genre that made his name, especially when you consider that his last attempt at big screen comedy in Grimbsy was largely dismissed by critics and bombed at the box office.

It might not have been a massive box office success after earning a respectable $90 million against a $26 million budget, but Anchorman almost instantly found a second life on home video and became one of the defining comedies of the 2000s, and for a while you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing somebody quoting one of the many eccentric characters.
Given the continued popularity of the original, talks about a sequel continued for years before the gang finally got back together almost a decade later for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Unfortunately, though, the follow-up missed the mark and failed to recapture the magic, marking the latest in a long line of disappointing late-arriving comedy sequels.
Of course, a third installment wouldn’t face anywhere near as much trouble as its predecessor in escaping from development hell after The Legend Continues doubled the box office gross of the first outing, but...

“Pineapple Express” fans will be disappointed to learn that a sequel was shot down over budget concerns from Sony.
In an interview on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” on Wednesday, Rogen said Sony wasn’t interested in a “Pineapple Express 2” movie several years ago when it was being pitched.
“We tried to make one and thanks to the Sony hack you can actually find the email when Sony decided to kill the movie and not make it,” he told host Howard Stern. “It was something we were very open to several years ago, but Sony was not that interested in it.”
The infamous 2014 Sony Pictures hack released many confidential documents and emails about upcoming and previously unannounced movies.
According to a report from The Daily Beast, leaked emails between “Pineapple Express” producer Judd Apatow and former Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal showed discussion of a sequel to the stoner...

To borrow a phrase from one of Will Ferrell’s most forward-thinking characters: “Podcasts about weird people. So hot right now.”
Apple has given a straight-to-series order to The Shrink Next Door, an eight-episode limited series based on a podcast of the same name. Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd helped develop the project and will star as the two leads: Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (Rudd), his longtime patient Martin “Marty” Markowit (Ferrell). This will mark the first time that Ferrell and Rudd have starred in a project together since Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
Michael Showalter (The Big Sick) will direct the series. Georgia Pritchett (Succession) will pen the scripts. Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Brittney Segal will executive produce the show for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Rudd, Pritchett, and podcast host Joe Nocera will also serve as executive producers. Showalter and Jordana Mollick will executive produce on behalf of Semi-Formal Productions.

Apple TV+ has ordered “The Shrink Next Door,” starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd, straight to series. The eight-episode limited series, based on the Wondery podcast of the same name, marks the first time the two have shared the screen since “Anchorman 2.”
Michael Showalter will direct the scripts by Georgia Pritchett.
“The Shrink Next Door” is a dark comedy inspired by true events that detail the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf, played by Rudd, and his longtime patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz, played by Ferrell. Over the course of their relationship, the all-too-charming Ike slowly takes over Marty’s life, even moving into Marty’s Hamptons home and taking over his family business, according to the logline. The series explores how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic morphs into an unprecedentedly exploitative relationship filled with manipulation, power grabs, and dysfunction at its finest.
