But if you would rather turn the heat up a bit as fall temperatures begin to roll in, the streamer boasts a number of sexy movies and shows that should be on your watch list. Whether it's a tame romantic comedy, a throwback teen drama series that had parents clutching their pearls, or the new hit romantic drama series everyone's talking about, it's getting hot in here.

We're sharing five of the best sexy movies and shows to watch on Netflix in October 2024, beginning below with the Italian limited series Deceitful Love.

The Perfect Couple shot to the top overall spot in Nielsen’s streaming rankings for its premiere week.

The murder mystery limited series, which stars Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber and Dakota Fanning, accumulated 1.91 billion minutes of viewing for the week of Sept. 2-8 (it premiered on Sept. 5). That’s the fifth highest total for any original series premiere week on the streaming charts this year, behind Fool Me Once (3.04 billion minutes), Fallout (2.9 billion), Bridgerton (2.76 billion) and Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender (2.56 billion).

The Perfect Couple was one of five titles to record more than a billion minutes of viewing for the week. The others are Netflix’s movie Rebel Ridge (1.11 billion), Family Guy (1.06 billion), Prison Break (1.05 billion) — which had been the overall No. 1 for the previous four weeks — and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (1.02 billion), which was even with its season two premiere a week earlier.

Netflix originals were a big hit the first week of September. That’s what the latest measurements from Nielsen are showing. From Sept. 2 – 8, two Netflix originals — “The Perfect Couple” and “Rebel Ridge” — secured the first and second spots, respectively, on Nielsen’s overall top 10 streaming list, securing nearly three billion viewing minutes in their opening weekend.

The Nicole Kidman miniseries “The Perfect Couple” generated 1.9 billion viewing minutes, a viewership number that was driven by an audience that was 70% female. “Rebel Ridge” followed in second place with 1.1 billion viewing minutes thanks to a slightly younger audience that was split fairly evenly between men and women.

While highly anticipated shows and movies found major audiences, other titles that received more mixed reviews also emerged as unexpected successes. A respected actor and ascendant star, Pierre is not a household name like Mark Wahlberg or Adam Sandler or Eddie Murphy, all of whom recently took Netflix originals to #1.

Nor is it a flashy drama, or a big-budget production. Its director, Jeremy Saulnier, most recently directed “Hold the Dark” for Netflix in 2018 (along with a couple of episodes of “True Detective”). That comes in its third week at home on PVOD. And right at the same time, “Twisters” returned to #1 at iTunes, edging out the second weekend of “Inside Out 2” (Disney), 2024’s biggest hit.

The Pixar film retains its top spot at Fandango, with the advantage that its $24.99 rental cost gives it with that site listing by revenue earned, not transactions like iTunes does. Aside from IP with mass appeal and superhero stuff, horror is about the only thing that seems to make any money at the box office these days. That's mostly due to the fact horror movies typically don't cost a whole lot to make, leaving more profit on the table at the end of their theatrical runs. But horror isn't just a reliably popular genre at the box office. It also does well on streaming, where we've actually had some pretty decent offerings in recent years.

By far the best example is "His House," which hit Netflix back in 2020 and was even better than your favorite horror movie. Indeed, the film earned a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and proved that Netflix could be much more than a delivery method for middling Kevin Hart projects and instantly forgettable streaming films. Unfortunately, not all the horror that emerges on Netflix is of quite the same standard.

Director Cameron Crowe has been working with the Canadian music legend on a film about her extraordinary life and career, Above the Line reports.

The filmmaker has apparently been working with Mitchell in secret for the last two years, conceiving the project and getting it off the ground.

While the film has no title, release date or cast, the report suggests that it is not being approached as a standard biopic, but rather as something closer to autobiography, “basically her life from the inside looking out.”

Crowe, best known for directing “Say Anything”, “Jerry Maguire” and “Almost Famous”, hasn’t released a new movie since 2015’s “Aloha”. He also created the 2016 TV series “Roadies”, which was cancelled after one season.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Cameron Crowe has had a fascinating career trajectory and is responsible for some of the most beloved coming-of-age stories ever put to screen. For many folks, Crowe had finally "made it" after the success of "Jerry Maguire," the endlessly quotable romantic sports dramedy now better known for its VHS copies dominating every thrift store in America. However, real ones know that Crowe's masterpiece would come many years later with "We Bought A Zoo." Just kidding, it's obviously "Almost Famous," a near-perfect film (just edit out the non-consensual post-od kiss!

Though he hasn't exactly been radio silent – he's produced documentaries and shorts and helped guide a stages musical based on Almost Famous to Broadway – Cameron Crowe has certainly been quieter since the 2015/2016 double-whammy of failure that was Aloha in cinemas and Roadies on TV. But he's back developing a passion project about one of his favourite people: folk icon Joni Mitchell.

According to Above The Line's Jeff Schneider, Crowe has been working with the 79-year-old music legend to craft a film that will be more than a standard biopic.

Few concrete details are available, beyond the fact that it'll be narrative rather than documentary, so we don't know whether it'll feature actors of different ages playing Mitchell through the years or find some other creative way to tell her story. Here’s some potentially happy news: none other than Cameron Crowe is planning a return to features with him potentially signing on to direct a Joni Mitchell biopic. The scoop comes via Jeff Sneider at Above the Line. Crowe hasn’t directed in many years after suffering a huge flop with Aloha, the movie that infamously cast Emma Stone as (part) Asian. He went on to make Showtime’s underrated series Roadies, but it only lasted one season. A Joni Mitchell biopic would be an ideal movie for Crowe, bringing him back to the seventies music milieu of Almost Famous.

It helps that Crowe is long-time friends with Mitchell, going back to Crowe’s famous days as a boy reporter for Rolling Stone. Crowe has interviewed her many times (here’s a recent one commemorating the anniversary of her album Blue) and is frequently seen at her side when she makes infrequent public appearances.

“Aquaman” star Jason Momoa and producer Peter Safran have reteamed to develop a feature biopic about Duke Kahanamoku, the legendary Hawaiian Olympic swimmer who is widely credited with popularizing surfing as a sport.

Momoa and Safran have teamed with producers Susan Miller Carlson and Eric Carlson of Carlson Company to bring Kahanamoku’s story to the screen. Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, known for penning “Conviction,” a 2018 Black List selection, is at work on the script.

Kahanamoku was the subject of the “American Masters” documentary “Waterman — Duke: Ambassador of Aloha” that debuted on PBS in May and was narrated by Momoa, a fellow Hawaiian.

Kahanamoku was a five-time Olympic medalist who broke records as a champion swimmer. He busted through racial stereotypes as a native Hawaiian competing across four Olympic Games in 1912, 1920, 1924 and 1932. After his athletic career ended, he ran gas stations in Hawaii and spent nearly 30 years as sheriff of Honolulu until the early 1960s.

Only two Latinas have been nominated at the Emmys in the lead actress comedy category in its 78-year history, and it’s no laughing matter. But, this year, we could see the third with Selena Gomez in the mystery-comedy “Only Murders in the Building” from Hulu.

Disney World has modified its traditional greeting to the audience on its nighttime fireworks display and other shows, a move that has created its own online explosion.

Instead of the longstanding “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,” greeting, shows are now prefaced with one that swaps the gender specificity, subbing in “Dreamers of all ages.”

The change came to light at a Wednesday preview of the Orlando, Florida theme park’s “Happily Ever After” fireworks display. But the switch apparently extends throughout the Disney empire and is used in more than fireworks displays, as confirmed by a spokesperson for Tokyo Disneyland.
