A movie about Prince Charming isn’t something anyone saw coming, especially since it’s focusing on the one from Cinderella. The news just dropped, and there’s barely any info on the production yet, but knowing the character, it’s pretty much a given that he’ll end up with a love interest along the way.

It’s still too early to confirm the cast, though Chris Hemsworth is reported to be in line for the lead role. Adding to the buzz, Daisy Edgar-Jones is also reportedly being considered as the prince’s love interest. This raises the question: is this a good idea, considering the age gap between the actors?

The Perfect Couple shot to the top overall spot in Nielsen’s streaming rankings for its premiere week.
The murder mystery limited series, which stars Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber and Dakota Fanning, accumulated 1.91 billion minutes of viewing for the week of Sept. 2-8 (it premiered on Sept. 5). That’s the fifth highest total for any original series premiere week on the streaming charts this year, behind Fool Me Once (3.04 billion minutes), Fallout (2.9 billion), Bridgerton (2.76 billion) and Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender (2.56 billion).
The Perfect Couple was one of five titles to record more than a billion minutes of viewing for the week. The others are Netflix’s movie Rebel Ridge (1.11 billion), Family Guy (1.06 billion), Prison Break (1.05 billion) — which had been the overall No. 1 for the previous four weeks — and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (1.02 billion), which was even with its season two premiere a week earlier.

Maybe there’s hope for quality Netflix originals apart from its awards contenders. “Rebel Ridge,” a topical thriller about an ex-Marine confronting a corrupt small-town sheriff, is #1 at Netflix. It stars Aaron Pierre — who stepped into the role after John Boyega walked off the production in June 2021. A respected actor and ascendant star, Pierre is not a household name like Mark Wahlberg or Adam Sandler or Eddie Murphy, all of whom recently took Netflix originals to #1.

There are certain in-jokes among us chronically online film enthusiasts that'll probably get you strange looks if you crack 'em devoid of context in the real world. Take Zack Snyder's "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," an animated fantasy epic that made $139.7 million at the box office, yet, as the internet's running gag goes, nobody has actually seen. Then there's /Film's own recurring bit of referring to Mark Wahlberg as a hamburger salesman, which is more factual that you may've realized. However, if you really want to baffle impress your normie pals with your deep-cut knowledge of niche social media humor, all you need to do is applaud Emma Stone for her representation of the Asian-American community.
To clarify for all you fine folks who've no idea what I'm talking about -- this now nine-year-old punchline involving the "Superbad" veteran was birthed by Cameron Crowe's controversial bomb "Aloha.

“Twisters” (Universal) wasn’t the biggest film of the summer. But it is becoming the comeback kid among the group, both theatrically and at home.
The tornado-focused special effects disaster film just had a very rare weekend in theaters. In its seventh weekend, losing 200 screens, its gross increased 17 percent. That comes in its third week at home on PVOD. And right at the same time, “Twisters” returned to #1 at iTunes, edging out the second weekend of “Inside Out 2” (Disney), 2024’s biggest hit.
The Pixar film retains its top spot at Fandango, with the advantage that its $24.99 rental cost gives it with that site listing by revenue earned, not transactions like iTunes does. In any event, the split decision this week continues a now multi-month trend of no film placing #1 at both for two consecutive weeks.

Aside from IP with mass appeal and superhero stuff, horror is about the only thing that seems to make any money at the box office these days. That's mostly due to the fact horror movies typically don't cost a whole lot to make, leaving more profit on the table at the end of their theatrical runs. But horror isn't just a reliably popular genre at the box office. It also does well on streaming, where we've actually had some pretty decent offerings in recent years.
By far the best example is "His House," which hit Netflix back in 2020 and was even better than your favorite horror movie. Indeed, the film earned a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and proved that Netflix could be much more than a delivery method for middling Kevin Hart projects and instantly forgettable streaming films. Unfortunately, not all the horror that emerges on Netflix is of quite the same standard.

Controversy has resurfaced over the 2015 romantic comedy “Aloha” and its handling of an Asian-American character. The star-filled movie directed by Cameron Crowe is coming to the streaming service Netflix this September. Its arrival reopens discussion about casting choices and representation in Hollywood.
When it premiered, “Aloha” disappointed at the box office and with critics. In it, Bradley Cooper plays a military contractor who returns to Hawaii. There, he gets caught in a love triangle involving his ex Rachel McAdams and Air Force pilot Allison Ng, played by Emma Stone. Ng’s background is described as part Native Hawaiian, part Chinese, and part Swedish. Stone’s casting upset some who said it ignored authentic Asian representation.
This “whitewashing” distracted from the movie. It made only $26 million on a $37-52 million budget and earned a low 20% rating from reviews. Both Stone and Crowe later addressed the controversy. Crowe said the character was...

Elvis Presley began dating Linda Thompson after his divorce from Priscilla Presley. The couple was together for years, and their relationship was serious enough that Thompson would have liked to get married. Elvis had no interest in that, though. He wanted Thompson to be aware that she wasn’t the only woman in his life.

Bradley Cooper is still recovering from the Best Actor Oscar loss to Cillian Murphy. Elvis Presley‘s “Burning Love” wasn’t originally performed by the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. In fact, the original version of the song wasn’t even a single — it was a deep cut on an obscure album. The original version of the song probably wouldn’t have been a hit even if it was given a chance. Here’s a look at why the “All Shook Up” singer was the magic ingredient needed to make “Burning Love” shine.

“Burning Love” was originally performed by Arthur Alexander for his self-titled album. His performance of the song is straightforward and simple. There are no backup singers. His “Burning Love” isn’t sparse, it’s just sparse compared to the hit version of the song.
Meanwhile, Elvis gave the song his all. Elvis sometimes phoned in his performances, but when he believed in a song,...

Elvis Presley was well-known for giving gifts to family, friends, and strangers. Bill Belew, who designed the King of Rock and Roll’s iconic jumpsuits for almost a decade, witnessed his generosity firsthand. He recalled when Presley gifted a fan a diamond and emerald ring she admired with “love and gratitude.”
Elvis Presley gave a fan an expensive gift she admired but couldn’t afford
In an interview with Elvis.com.au, Bill Belew discussed one instance where he worked with a jeweler to create custom pieces for Elvis Presley to wear at Sonny West’s wedding to Judy Jordan in 1970. Presley sent him to Schwartz and Albusser on the new jewelry.
“And so I went down there, and that’s how I met Saul and Abe. And as time progressed, we got to know each other,” Belew explained.

Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos' 2023 film "Poor Things" has received a lot of critical acclaim, but it's also been the subject of a fair amount of backlash. The Golden Lion winner tells the story of Bella, a woman who dies only to be revived and have her brain replaced with that of an infant by a twisted scientist, in turn setting her on a journey of self-discovery (read: sexual exploration). Due to this complicated subject matter, "Poor Things" has been roped into a larger discourse about sex scenes in cinema.
More reactionary critics have been quick to slam the film's off-beat comedy and have taken serious issue with its subject matter. Other critics have slammed the film for being pedophilic since Bella is technically at the mental age of a child when she begins having sex. But one person who didn't criticize Lanthimos for including sex scenes in the movie was Emma Stone,...

Elvis Presley‘s “Burning Love” is such a famous and beloved song that it’s tough to imagine that Elvis wasn’t the biggest fan of it. That might have had more to do with Elvis’ personal life than anything about the song’s lyrics or composition. In 2015, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra released a version of “Burning Love” with the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s vocals and a new instrumental arrangement.
Elvis Presley preferred ‘Separate Ways’ to ‘Burning Love’
According to a 2022 video uploaded to the Elvis Presley YouTube channel, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll wasn’t interested in recording “Burning Love.” His recent divorce from Priscilla Presley made him more interested in recording sad ballads, such as the forgotten classic “Separate Ways.”
However, producer Felton Jarvis wanted to help Elvis record a new big hit. After all, none of Elvis’ tunes had reached the top 30 in two years.

Linda Thompson began a relationship with Elvis Presley following his divorce from Priscilla Presley. While Thompson loved Elvis, she grew increasingly concerned about herself as the relationship wore on. Elvis’ behavior grew troublesome, and Thompson worried her sanity was at risk.
Linda Thompson began to worry about Elvis’ wellbeing
By the mid-1970s, Elvis’ health troubled everyone close to him. He ate large quantities of rich, heavy food, resulting in physical changes. More concerningly, he also relied heavily on prescription medications.
“In the months following the Aloha from Hawaii special, it wasn’t just his more voracious eating habits and slight weight gain that became noticeable and increasingly troubling,” Thompson wrote in her book A Little Thing Called Life. “He was visibly impaired more frequently, it seemed to me, both when he was attempting to sleep, and during our waking hours. Fleetwood’s continued, “Our main priority at the moment is the safety of our team members and staff. We appreciate your support and patience as we navigate this difficult terrain. Mahalo.”
Bandmate Steve Nicks, who also has a home on Maui, penned an emotional note about the island’s connection to Fletwood Mac. “This island, in so many ways, defines Fleetwood Mac and me and our families. Mick and I came here in 1978, went up to Kula to look at a huge,...

Way back in 2006, it was announced that Frank Coraci (The Wedding Singer) had signed on to direct an adaptation of the supernatural private eye thriller comic book Hawaiian Dick, working from a script by Freddy vs. Jason writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. There was talk about Johnny Knoxville starring in the film and Patrick Wilson was approached about joining the cast, but the project never made it into production. Years have passed, but obviously something about the concept of Hawaiian Dick really stuck with Wilson, because in a recent interview he revealed that he would like to direct a Hawaiian Dick adaptation himself!
Wilson is currently doing the press rounds for his feature directorial debut Insidious: The Red Door, which is set to reach theatres on July 7th. While he was speaking with ComicBook.com, he was asked if there’s a comic book adaptation he’d be interested in directing.

Elvis Presley heralded the turn of the 1970s by ushering in a look that would dominate his performances until his 1977 death. During that decade, his need for comfort and style led the king of rock and roll to wear jumpsuits. In turn, he created an iconic image that endures today. His costume designer reveals that of all the dozens of jumpsuits Presley sported during that time, he had one favorite look. Can you guess which one it was?

There’s a Joni Mitchell movie on the way.
Director Cameron Crowe has been working with the Canadian music legend on a film about her extraordinary life and career, Above the Line reports.

The filmmaker has apparently been working with Mitchell in secret for the last two years, conceiving the project and getting it off the ground.
While the film has no title, release date or cast, the report suggests that it is not being approached as a standard biopic, but rather as something closer to autobiography, “basically her life from the inside looking out.”
Crowe, best known for directing “Say Anything”, “Jerry Maguire” and “Almost Famous”, hasn’t released a new movie since 2015’s “Aloha”. He also created the 2016 TV series “Roadies”, which was cancelled after one season.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Cameron Crowe has had a fascinating career trajectory and is responsible for some of the most beloved coming-of-age stories ever put to screen. His feature screenwriting debut came with the groundbreaking teen film "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," shortly followed by the massively influential "Say Anything..." and "Singles." Crowe has a knack for capturing the human condition with so much reverence for people doing their best to make it through life and making audiences feel validated in ways they never thought possible.
For many folks, Crowe had finally "made it" after the success of "Jerry Maguire," the endlessly quotable romantic sports dramedy now better known for its VHS copies dominating every thrift store in America. However, real ones know that Crowe's masterpiece would come many years later with "We Bought A Zoo." Just kidding, it's obviously "Almost Famous," a near-perfect film (just edit out the non-consensual post-od kiss!

Though he hasn't exactly been radio silent – he's produced documentaries and shorts and helped guide a stages musical based on Almost Famous to Broadway – Cameron Crowe has certainly been quieter since the 2015/2016 double-whammy of failure that was Aloha in cinemas and Roadies on TV. But he's back developing a passion project about one of his favourite people: folk icon Joni Mitchell.
According to Above The Line's Jeff Schneider, Crowe has been working with the 79-year-old music legend to craft a film that will be more than a standard biopic.
Few concrete details are available, beyond the fact that it'll be narrative rather than documentary, so we don't know whether it'll feature actors of different ages playing Mitchell through the years or find some other creative way to tell her story. But the folk music legend — winner of 10 Grammys and member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since...

Here’s some potentially happy news: none other than Cameron Crowe is planning a return to features with him potentially signing on to direct a Joni Mitchell biopic. The scoop comes via Jeff Sneider at Above the Line. Crowe hasn’t directed in many years after suffering a huge flop with Aloha, the movie that infamously cast Emma Stone as (part) Asian. He went on to make Showtime’s underrated series Roadies, but it only lasted one season. A Joni Mitchell biopic would be an ideal movie for Crowe, bringing him back to the seventies music milieu of Almost Famous.
It helps that Crowe is long-time friends with Mitchell, going back to Crowe’s famous days as a boy reporter for Rolling Stone. Crowe has interviewed her many times (here’s a recent one commemorating the anniversary of her album Blue) and is frequently seen at her side when she makes infrequent public appearances.

“Aquaman” star Jason Momoa and producer Peter Safran have reteamed to develop a feature biopic about Duke Kahanamoku, the legendary Hawaiian Olympic swimmer who is widely credited with popularizing surfing as a sport.
Momoa and Safran have teamed with producers Susan Miller Carlson and Eric Carlson of Carlson Company to bring Kahanamoku’s story to the screen. Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, known for penning “Conviction,” a 2018 Black List selection, is at work on the script.
Kahanamoku was the subject of the “American Masters” documentary “Waterman — Duke: Ambassador of Aloha” that debuted on PBS in May and was narrated by Momoa, a fellow Hawaiian.
Kahanamoku was a five-time Olympic medalist who broke records as a champion swimmer. He busted through racial stereotypes as a native Hawaiian competing across four Olympic Games in 1912, 1920, 1924 and 1932. After his athletic career ended, he ran gas stations in Hawaii and spent nearly 30 years as sheriff of Honolulu until the early 1960s.

Only two Latinas have been nominated at the Emmys in the lead actress comedy category in its 78-year history, and it’s no laughing matter. But, this year, we could see the third with Selena Gomez in the mystery-comedy “Only Murders in the Building” from Hulu.
Possibly following in the footsteps of Rita Moreno (who was nominated in 1983 for “9 to 5”) and America Ferrera (who won in 2007 for “Ugly Betty” and received another nom in 2008), Gomez’s role as Mabel Mora has been one of the bright spots of the show alongside comedic legends Steve Martin and Martin Short. Overall, the comedy categories are undoubtedly the most competitive this season, with even the lead actress category seemingly stacked. Nevertheless, Gomez will attempt to stay in the conversation alongside Jean Smart (“Hacks”), Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) and Issa Rae (“Insecure”), while Martin and Short are hoping not to split votes with one another.

In the last decade or two, you generally know what’s coming when you hit play on a new Neil Young record. You know there will be a few sweet lovestruck hymns that sound as if they’re being played in dusty Old West saloons or around campfires. You anticipate the songs that wax nostalgic about his childhood, and the ones that rage against the destructiveness and stupidity of mankind and the impact on the planet. You await those moments when he turns the volume knob up and makes his...

Disney Changes Fireworks Show Announcement To More Inclusive Message, Setting Off Some Conservatives
Disney World has modified its traditional greeting to the audience on its nighttime fireworks display and other shows, a move that has created its own online explosion.
Instead of the longstanding “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,” greeting, shows are now prefaced with one that swaps the gender specificity, subbing in “Dreamers of all ages.”
The change came to light at a Wednesday preview of the Orlando, Florida theme park’s “Happily Ever After” fireworks display. But the switch apparently extends throughout the Disney empire and is used in more than fireworks displays, as confirmed by a spokesperson for Tokyo Disneyland.
As word of the change circulated on social media, knee-jerk reactions condemning the move surfaced from those who apparently feel the embrace of diversity and inclusion has gone too far.
