In "The Man with the Stomach of Lead", Le Floch must tread lightly to solve the grisly murder of the young Vicomte de Ruissec, who may have been plotting against the king. He finds the surprising means and motive for the murder.

Le Floch is assigned to investigate the death of his mentor, commissaire Guillaume Lardin, who had custody of highly sensitive letters that threatened the security of the king. Le Floch must fight the clock to unravel the complex mystery before he is forced to torture his friend, who is the primary suspect.
