Even though many great period TV shows have come out lately, half of them dip into romance in far too much detail for anyone to want to watch. If you're still traumatized by the infamous Bridgerton ladder scene, or just want to spend family night watching a period piece, check out the list below.
These 10 TV series prove that there is a way to present romance, intrigue, humor, and drama in a way that everyone can enjoy.
North and South (2004)
Although this story is romantic, there is a great emphasis on the historical background. The main character, Margaret Hale, is a southerner who is forced to move with her family to a northern city that has already been taken over by the new wave of industrialism. She must adapt to new customs and watch the world change before her eyes.
Peaky Blinders (2013-2022)

As the summertime is upon us, Korean dramas are thriving. A very difficult battle between the two Netflix weekend dramas is about to ensue, but we’d recommend catching both as they’re airing! See You In My 19th Life is based on the Webtoon of the same name and is actress Shin Hye-Sun’s return to the drama scene after her much-loved show Mr. Queen. The drama is a fantasy tale about a young woman who remembers her past lives every time she’s born again. At a certain point, she became tired of remembering these lives, but in her 18th life, when she was young, she met a boy who she found interesting. The girl wanted to stay by the boy’s side but ended up dying unexpectedly at age 12. In her 19th life, she decided to go find him again to continue what they started in her past life.

Is it time for South Korea’s TV drama series to move over and make way for Korean unscripted entertainment — namely game shows and reality shows?
While 2003 drama series “Jewel in the Palace,” or the more recent “Crash Landing on You,” “Memories of the Alhambra,” “Mr. Queen,” “Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce)” and “Descendants of the Sun” have for years successfully tugged at emotional heartstrings across Asia, the unscripted category has equally long been a staple of Korean domestic TV.
Korean variety shows have been a catch-all with multi-generational appeal. Talent contests have worked well in the home market, but often were too quirky — too much dialogue, or distracting titles flashing across the screen — which meant that they were best exported as formats rather than finished shows.
Examples of those include Mbc’s 2015 hit “King of Mask Singer,” which became “The Masked Singer” for Fox in the U.S. (and...

“The Night Agent” might not be pulling “Wednesday” numbers, but the new thriller series had a very strong first week on Netflix.
The Shawn Ryan-created thriller topped Netflix’s Global Top 10 English TV series list in its first week of availability, with 168.71 million hours viewed. That’s the most for Week 1 of a new Netflix series, English-language or otherwise, since “Wednesday.” And we’re only counting four days of viewing, as “The Night Agent” debuted on a Thursday; Sunday night is Netflix’s weekly cutoff.
Beyond new debuts, “The Night Agent’s” start was the single best week for a show since Season 2 of “Ginny & Georgia” premiered to 180 hours viewed. Last week marked the third-biggest week for the debut of a Netflix show since the streamer started publicizing the Top 10 lists.
“Wednesday,” of course, still ranks at No. 1 in terms of new-series debuts, after it opened to a...

The Royal Crown Prince or king must be riddled with dark omens of dethronement or political chaos within the palace. Amid the darkness, there is a shining light of unsuspecting true love with the female lead. Over the years, historical K-dramas have had some bonuses like gender-bender love like The King’s Affection. Here are some of the best historical romance K-dramas to binge-watch.
