In the late Eighties, Ernst Jorgensen, then an executive at a BMG affiliate in Denmark, raised an impertinent question in an international meeting. “How come we treat the Elvis Presley catalog so poorly?” The response from a U.S. label chief was immediate: “If you’re so smart, why don’t you do it?”
Jorgensen has been in charge of Presley reissues ever since, from the groundbreaking 1992 collection The King of Rock N’ Roll — The Complete 50s Masters to the just-released box set Memphis, which gathers recordings from the Tennessee...

Malachy McCourt, the Irish-American actor, raconteur and author best known to TV audiences for his long-running role as Kevin the bartender on ABC’s soap Ryan’s Hope, died today in Manhattan after battling a heart condition and cancer. He was 92.
His death was announced by his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times.
The brother of Pulitzer Prize-winning Angela’s Ashes memoirist Frank McCourt, Malachy McCourt left an indelible mark on New York City’s Irish American community. As the owner of the quintessential 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan – McCourt would often call it the city’s first singles bar, since he welcomed unaccompanied women to the establishment – the Brooklyn native became one of the city’s great story-tellers, regaling patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris with blarney, rugby talk and biographical anecdotes.
His way with words would hold him in good stead...

To celebrate the release of Danny Boy, the new drama feature airing on BBC Two this week, we had the pleasure of chatting to actor Leah McNamara about the film and her role in this real-life story.
Danny Boy is the story of a young man’s journey from medal-winning hero to alleged killer, and his search for truth in the fog of war. Leah plays the wife of Anthony Boyle’s character Brian Wood. The drama richly explores the effect Brian’s experience has not just on him, but also on his family: his father and ex-soldier, Gavin, his mother Margaret, and his wife Lucy, played by McNamara.
Speaking on the show, McNamara told us about the pressures of portraying real-life people, how families and indeed spouses deal with the aftermath of war and all it encompasses as well as how Covid helped them produce an even sharper and more thrilling film.
