Karl Urban's character "Bob" is a reference to "Beach Bob", a label (usually derogatory) applied by the ARK multiplayer community to new or low skill online players of the video game on which the series is based. "Beach Bobs" are so named due to their preference to remain in the beach areas where it is safer, rather than venturing inland to more hazardous and difficult areas.
