Henry Cavill is, by all accounts, a big star with an enviable career. But there's always been a certain tinge of unfulfilled potential to his journey. The British actor was almost James Bond before Daniel Craig won the role for 2006's "Casino Royale." Then, when he did land the role of the Man of Steel in the now-defunct Dceu, Cavill proved to be a great Superman that never really got a great Superman movie. Then, after making a high-profile exit from Netflix's "The Witcher" in 2022, Cavill announced he was back as Superman, before it was confirmed that he was, in fact, not back as Superman.
Despite these missteps and misfortunes, it's not as if the actor has struggled for roles. Following his unfortunate Superman return that never was, Cavill announced that he's starring in and executive producing a "Warhammer 40,000" series for Amazon and is currently gearing up to...

Perhaps it’s because of his stunning bulky physique or his unparalleled acting and fighting chops, but Henry Cavill absolutely eats it up in the action genre. Over the years since his career started, he has depicted his combat excellence across multiple genres, be it adventure-comedy, mystery, superhero, or even fantasy. That said, he prefers to do most of his stunt scenes by himself as well.

The same was the case when he was working on his 2012 action-thriller The Cold Light of Day, which saw Cavill pulling off some really praise-worthy moves but still ended in the ditch as both critics and general audiences failed it. But that didn’t stop the actor from having a ball with the action sequences working with the stuntman while the director worried for his wellbeing.

After a busy August with the Season 2 premiere of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” which continues throughout September with new episodes through Oct. 3, “Batman: Caped Crusader,” and more, Amazon streaming services Prime Video and Freevee will have a comparably quiet September.
Most of the action for the month will come from Prime Video’s sports options. After the Sept. 5 Kickoff Game at Arrowhead Stadium with the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs going up against the Baltimore Ravens, Prime Video’s third season of Thursday Night Football begins with AFC East champs Buffalo Bills taking on the Miami Dolphins in Miami. The WNBA and Nwsl also continue their seasons on Prime Video, with matches all month long from New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury, Angel City Fc, and more top teams.

Following his exit from two major franchises namely DC and The Witcher series, Henry Cavill has seen a bit of a lean period in Hollywood. To add to his woes, his spy thriller Argylle also sank without a trace at the box office. Cavill’s bad fortune in this genre started in 2015 when his film The Man from U.N.C.L.E was also panned.

All four “Lethal Weapon” movies and “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,” starring the late, great Tina Turner, will be leaving the streaming service. Luckily, you’ll have all month to watch them.

and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III” (1993), as well as the animated “Tmnt” (2007).
Kaiju fans will want to check out “Godzilla” (2014), “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (2019), “King Kong” (1933) and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” (2012).
Finally, if horror is your thing, six “Hellraiser” films and “The Ring Two” make great summer scares.

Welcome back to Dead Time, where we explore the unexplained and the things that linger in the darkness. I hope you left a light on for me. In a recent installment I spoke with TV Host Aaron Sagers about the Netflix series 28 Days Haunted, which follows three paranormal teams who each spend 28 days in a haunted location. The show is an experiment to test the 28-day cycle, which is a theory some believe was initially suggested by famous paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.
For this month’s Dead Time, I talked with paranormal investigator, demonologist, author, and musician Sean Austin, who was part of one of the teams who participated in 28 Days Haunted. Sean took me behind-the-scenes of the show to share the deeply heartfelt experience he had with a spirit at Captain Grant’s Inn in Preston, Connecticut and how the encounter not only moved him,...

The jokes will extend well past April 1st on HBO and HBO Max.
“Barry” returns for its fourth and final season. After the shocking Season 3 finale which saw Barry (Billy Hader) getting arrested and Cousineau (Henry Winkler) being hailed as a hero, there will be plenty of consequences for both. The dark comedy premieres on April 16 with two episodes.
“A Black Lady Sketch Show” will also bring plenty of laughs when it returns for its fourth season. The sketch comedy series premieres April 14.
On the drama side, the limited series “Love and Death” premieres on April 27. It’s based on the true story of Candy (Elizabeth Olsen) and Pat Montgomery (Patrick Fugit) and Betty (Lily Rabe) and Allan Gore (Jesse Plemons) – two churchgoing couples enjoying their small-town Texas life… until an extramarital affair leads somebody to pick up an axe.

With its list of new releases for April 2023, HBO Max is premiering the final episodes of two major shows.
First up is the continuation of Titans season 4 on April 13. Returning after a four month hiatus, these next six episodes will be the last go around for HBO Max’s gritty live-action DC series. Arriving three days later on HBO proper is the fourth and final season of Barry. Bill Hader and the rest of the Barry team wrote themselves into a fascinating corner with the conclusion of season 3. And judging by the first teasers for season 4, this final batch of episodes will indeed catch up with our favorite actor/hitman in prison.
Other TV shows of note this month include the Pete Davidson-starring animated series Fired on Mars on April 20 (light ’em up) the the Elizabeth Olsen-starring true crime story Love & Death on April 27.

Barry (Bill Hader), a hitman who stumbles into acting, explores the dark, often comedic underbelly of both LA gangsters and Hollywood. Other releases for October 27th include Scary Tales, Spine Chiller, Weedjies: Halloweed Night, Attack of the Unknown,...

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when Bruce Willis seemed to give up on trying anything interesting or exciting and decided to follow Nicolas Cage down the rabbit hole into the world of terrible VOD action movies, but the 65 year-old has certainly gone all-in, with his descent into mediocrity coinciding with the most prolific period of his entire career.
If you discount his franchise turns that include playing John McClane for a fifth time in the awful A Good Day to Die Hard and a sixth in The Lego Movie sequel, cameos in the first two Expendables before he was kicked out by Sylvester Stallone after demanding too much money to appear in the third, both installments of the short-lived Red series, a brief role in G.I. As one of the weirder “back to school” seasons in living memory rolls out, Hulu is heading back to school in its own way for September 2020.
The biggest Hulu original arriving to the streaming services stream this month is season 2 of coming-of-age comedy Pen15…which of course stars two adults who have already come of age playing their middle school selves.
Speaking of middle school, perhaps the biggest non-original addition to the Hulu library this month is the arrival of all The Twilight Saga movies on September 1. That should prove to be a real nostalgia trip for interested parties. Other library titles of note include Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, The Terminator, and 2019’s Judy on September 25.
Bookending Hulu’s originals this month is another intriguing comedy, Woke. This series will star Lamorne Morris as a Black cartoonist who gets an unexpected wakeup call.

This will be the filmmaker’s 4th feature film following on from Virgil (2005), Jcvd (2008) and the American work The Cold Light of Day (2012). Also the focus of much acclaim for the series Maison close and Nox, the director is uniting the likes of Sabrina Ouazani, popular actor Ramzy Bedia (at his best in South Terminal and Vandal, among other works,...
Les Films du Kiosque, the Paris-based production company behind Nicolas Bedos’ Cannes-premiering “La Belle Epoque” and Netflix’ hit original “Family Business,” is set to reteam with Bedos on “Masquarade,” and will produce Mabrouk El Mechri’s “Kung Fu Zohra.”

Now, it is true that in 2006, during the Northern Ireland peace process, enemy leaders Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness had a private meeting, after which real progress was made and a power-sharing government for the country was formed with them as, respectively, first minister and deputy first minister. The stars of yesterday now are making three films a year you never knew existed until they show up on Netflix.^ Real Movie ^
In my prior life as a script reader, I certainly read a lot of bad scripts, but at times, an even more common occurrence was a script that seemed to do a great many things right, but somehow fell just short of being something you wanted to champion as a movie. As draining as the terrible scripts were, there’s something pure about clear-cut bad. It takes little effort to explain why they’re unfit.
The real challenges were the scripts that had kind of a decent premise, kind of an okay twist or two, and a lead character who wasn’t bad so much as he or she was just… there. The raw materials are there for what Could be a script. They just happen to be assembled in the least compelling way...

Exclusive: Chavela Vargas documentary sells to Us and France.
Madrid-based sales agent Latido has scored key territory deals on Chavela, the documentary by Catherine Gund and Daresha Kyi which premiered at this week’s Berlin Film Festival in the Panorama strand.
The documentary about iconic Mexican singer Chavela Vargas has gone to Bodega Films in France and The Film Collaborative in the Us. A deal has been closed with Portugal (Leopardo Filmes), and Latido is reporting interest from Israel and Germany.
A bidding war is underway between two companies in Spain, which comes as no surprise considering the popularity of Chavela Vargas’ music in the country. Her songs are closely related to Pedro Almodóvar’s films and the director had personal involvement in the singer’s revival in the later years of her career.
Further titles on Latido’s line-up to have inked deals include Spanish war film Rescue Under Fire, which is set...

Like a movie from the world of Watchmen: cold, cruel, borderline incoherent in its testosterone-fueled rage, misogynist, paternalistic… fascist, even. I’m “biast” (pro): didn’t hate Man of Steel

I really liked Man of Steel, Zack Snyder’s 2013 reboot of Superman: I liked how it gave him soul and tragedy and inner conflict like we had never quite seen before in the character. (At least onscreen. I cannot claim to have in-depth knowledge of the character’s long and varied history in print.) The son of Krypton we saw there didn’t enjoy the powers he possessed, and he hesitated to wield them. If it seemed as if he went overboard in the end, finally acquiescing to use his strength and abilities to fight Zod — laying waste to much of Metropolis in...

'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' 2015: Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer. 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' movie is a domestic box office bomb: Will it be saved by international filmgoers? Directed by Sherlock Holmes' Guy Ritchie and toplining Man of Steel star Henry Cavill and The Lone Ranger costar Armie Hammer, the Warner Bros. release The Man from U.N.C.L.E. has been a domestic box office disaster, performing about 25 percent below – already quite modest – expectations. After five days out, the big-screen reboot of the popular 1960s television series starring Robert Vaughn and David McCallum has taken in a mere $16.77 million. For comparison's sake:...

Now, though, I’m struggling to come up with a reason for the existence of this movie at all. Was there a demand for a big-screen version of the 60s TV show that I was unaware of? Or has Hollywood simply run out of old properties to do over? Is there a trend thinktank working somewhere in New York or London that is desperately trying to get us all into Cold War chic...

If a mashup of 80s robot flicks Short Circuit and RoboCop sounds like a bad joke, well: almost. Chappie is often risible, but it’s more sad than anything else. Not the good kind of sad: this is not a poignant or touching film, though it clearly hopes to be. No, Chappie makes me sad because the promise that South African filmmaker Neill Blomkamp displayed with his brilliant District 9 and which hung over his flawed but still daring followup Elysium is nowhere to be found here. Hot on the heels of joining Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool, Fast and Furious and Haywire starlet Gina Carano has signed on for Steven C. Miller’s upcoming CIA thriller Extraction, along with Twilight star Kellan Lutz.
News comes via Deadline, who report that the pair will star opposite Bruce Willis in the actioner. According to the outlet, Lutz will assume the role of Harry Turner, a rookie agent yet to cut his teeth in the agency. With his father (Willis) missing, Turner flies in the face of direct orders and sets out on a mission to find him, but this soon leads to a manhunt spearheaded by Carano’s steely field operative, Victoria. And given the actress’ ass-kicking reputation accrued from her time spent in Mma, we don’t envy Turner’s plight.

Ah, apparently that’s all in our heads. It’s a much more straightforward film, and Kellan Lutz is now aboard to play Willis’s son.Steven C. Miller is directing this one, which finds Willis as a retired Secret Service agent who is kidnapped by some nasty terrorist types. So his son, Henry Cavill Lutz’s Harry Turner, disobeys his CIA bosses and goes hunting for him. Which, somewhat naturally, triggers a manhunt for Harry, with Gina Carano’s field operative dispatched to track him down and bring him back. And here we thought they’d have sympathy with this plight?Dan Bilzerian, Lydia Hull and Tyler Olson are aboard this one, which features a script by Umair Aleem and Max Adams.

Remember when Bruce Willis used to make interesting, original movies, like Pulp Fiction, Twelve Monkeys and The Fifth Element? An air of excitement would surround each announcement detailing which project the actor would get involved with next. It’s been some time since that excitement has been felt, however, because Willis has essentially been making the same movie, repeatedly, for years. The next product from that assembly line will be Extraction, directed by Steven C. Miller (Silent Night).
The plot focuses on a father and son duo of – wait for it – CIA agents, with Willis as the seasoned elder operative who is traumatized by the – you guessed it – murder of his wife. His less-experienced CIA operative son is working with him on the manufacture of a super-weapon known as the Condor, but is thrust into the driving seat when his father, Willis, is kidnapped by terrorists. Though his multi-picture deal with Warner Bros., which has him suiting up to play the Man of Steel himself in at least 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League, should keep him very busy for the foreseeable future, British thesp Henry Cavill is finding time to step into another action hero role for the upcoming Stratton.
In a pre-American Film Market deal, the star will play a British spy named John Stratton. The pic, based on the novel series by Duncan Falconer, may launch a franchise for Promethean Productions, Amber Entertainment and Gfm Films. Promethean was created by Cavill and his brother Charlie along with producer Rex Glensy, which partly explains the actor’s willingness to take on yet another action hero role after years of starring in comparable fare like The Cold Light of Day and Immortals.

Even Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone aren't good enough to get Australian cinemagoer bums in seats it would seem.
Hopscotch Films have reportedly shelved plans to theatrically release the $50 million Arnie-Sly team-up action thriller "Escape Plan" in Australia. The title will now go direct-to-disc.
'Escape' fizzled upon release at the U.S. domestic box-office with just $23 million, but has done quite well overseas with a $78 million haul outside North America.
In Australia, both "The Expendables" movies and Arnie's recent "The Last Stand" were solid performers, making the choice all the more perplexing. Fans are understandably unhappy, flooding Hopscotch's Facebook page with complaints.
Hopscotch themselves haven't confirmed it on their social media outlets, though at least two cinema chains have confirmed the pulling of the film which was to score a release on November 28th.
More than ever, films that don't perform well overseas are bypassing theatrical releases here in Australia...

Neil Jordan's Byzantium, his return to the blood-sucker genre following Interview with the Vampire, was due to open in Australian cinemas on July 25.
Not so. The distributor Rialto pulled the release this week and the fantasy thriller about mother-and -daughter vampires will go straight to DVD and Video-On-Demand.
The decision to bypass cinemas is a growing trend as distributors calculate their chances of recouping hefty marketing costs from the theatrical release are diminishing, and the waning DVD market is a less effective safety net.
Horror movies are the most problematic given the genre has never been popular in Oz, unlike the Us and the UK.
Universal won.t release The Purge, a violent saga set in a future where for one night a year all crime is legal, in Australian cinemas. That.s despite the film, which stars Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey and Rhys Wakefield, raking in a lucrative...
