The Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced the 26 nominees for induction at the June 12, 2025, awards gala in New York City. Songwriters are eligible 20 years after their first significant commercial release of a song. Eminem, N.W.A, Janet Jackson, and Alanis Morissette are among the finalists for the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s class of 2025.

Other nominees include Mike Love of The Beach Boys, Sheryl Crow, George Clinton, Boy George, The Doobie Brothers, Steve Winwood, Bryan Adams, Tommy James, and Walter Afanasieff. The full list of nominees can be found below.

A total of six inductees will be chosen: three from the songwriters category, and three from the performing songwriters category. They’ll be honored during a ceremony held in New York City in June 2025.

Last year’s Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees included R.E.M., Steely Dan, Timbaland, and Dean Pitchford. During the induction ceremony, R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, Mike Mills, Peter Buck, and Bill Berry reunited for their first performance together in 15 years.

Denzel Washington stars in Gladiator II as Macrinus, a wealthy arms dealer who will do whatever it takes to become emperor. Set more than 20 years after the death of Russell Crowe’s Maximus in Gladiator, the sequel follows Lucius (Paul Mescal), one of Macrinus’s gladiators and mentees, who he employs to battle in the famed Colosseum.

Zack Norman, the stand-up comic, actor and producer perhaps best known for his turn as a crocodile-loving antiquities smuggler in Romancing the Stone, has died. He was 83.

Norman died Sunday night of natural causes at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, his family announced.

Norman collaborated frequently with director Henry Jaglom, with the two working together on Tracks (1976), Sitting Ducks (1980), Venice/Venice (1992), Babyfever (1994), Déjà Vu (1997), Festival in Cannes (2001), Hollywood Dreams (2006), Irene in Time (2009), Queen of the Lot (2010), The M Word (2014) and Ovation (2015).

In Robert Zemeckis’ action-adventure Romancing the Stone (1984), starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, Norman and Danny DeVito play the smuggling cousins Ira and Ralph, respectively.

TBS has set the premiere date for its “Friday Night Vibes” revival for Jan. 5 at 8:00pm Et/Pt.

Famed songwriter and “Father of Disco” Giorgio Moroder has sold his producer royalties to the brand development company Iconoclast, Variety reports.

The deal places Moroder’s name, image, and likeness rights in the hands of Iconoclast, so expect to hear Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” or Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away” a lot more in advertisements. In addition to a prolific solo career, Moroder produced may of Summer’s disco classics as well as the Academy Award-winning Top Gun song.

Moroder’s other credits include Blondie’s “Call Me,” as well as the soundtracks to Cat People and Scarface.
