It’s time to update your awards predictions at Gold Derby, because a major TV contender has just announced its strategy for the upcoming 2025 kudos. “Agatha All Along,” Disney Plus’ spin-off of “WandaVision” starring Kathryn Hahn as a centuries-old, sassy witch, will submit in the comedy categories at the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and next year’s Emmys, per our sister site Variety. The show was originally designed to be a limited series with a beginning, middle, and end.
Two years ago, Hahn received nominations for “WandaVision” at the Emmys and Critics Choice Awards in the limited series races for playing Agnes The Nosy Neighbor, aka Agatha Harkness. The quirky song “Agatha All Along” by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, which won the Best Music & Lyrics Emmy, told the tale of how Agatha was actually responsible for everything that had happened in the fictional town of Westview.

Humiliating himself with his conduct interviewing Vice President Kamala Harris earlier this week, Bret Baier probably won’t find the bracing cold open of Saturday Night Live tonight very amusing. As the Fox News anchor was during his sit-down with the VP on October 16, Baier will be in the wrong.
“The pleasure is neither of ours,” said Maya Rudolph’s Harris to the Alec Baldwin-portrayed Baier in the very funny and sharp cold open. Yes, you read that right: Alec Baldwin.
In a bit of shocker, this is longtime Donald Trump-playing Baldwin’s first return to SNL since his involuntary manslaughter trial for the fatal 2021 shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was tossed out because of suppressed evidence by New Mexico prosecutors. Before the trial, which could have seen him go behind bars for up to 18 months if found guilty, the 17-time SNL host Baldwin previously was on...

Amazon and Apple, two Silicon Valley behemoths, are teaming up more closely in the streaming arena.
Later this month, Apple TV+ will be available via Prime Video in the U.S. as an add-on subscription for $9.99 per month, Amazon announced Wednesday. That’s the same price Apple charges for the stand-alone streaming service.
Apple TV+ joins Prime Video’s collection of more than 100 add-on subscription options in the U.S., which include Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max, Paramount Global’s Paramount+, Sony’s Crunchyroll and Amazon-owned MGM+.
The deal to bring Apple TV+ into Prime Video is part of Amazon’s strategy to aggregate as many entertainment options as it can for customers — available on one bill, in one app.
“Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering a wide selection of premium programming,” Mike Hopkins, SVP and Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said in announcing the pact.

Saturday Night Live has found its 2024 political candidates.
As the NBC sketch comedy show kicks off its 50th season, its creator and long-running maestro Lorne Michaels has settled on his new crop of D.C. power players, including Kamala Harris (Maya Rudolph), Tim Walz (Jim Gaffigan), Joe Biden (Dana Carvey) and Douglas Emhoff (Andy Samberg). All the actors were revealed during the cold open for the season 50 premiere on Saturday night, which saw them all out on the campaign trail ahead of the election in November.
In a recent Hollywood Reporter cover story, Michaels had teased the fact that SNL’s Trump impression would need to be reinvented — just as it had been when cast member James Austin Johnson took over for friend-of-the-show Alec Baldwin. “James, who I think is brilliant, played Trump...

In the satire musical, Bobby Strong (Fisher) leads his community in a fight against oppression. Natasha Lyonne is an actress who wears many hats — and she will soon possibly add feature film director and writer to that oeuvre.
The star of His Three Daughters, opposite Elizabeth Olsen and Carrie Coon, teased in a recent interview with the New York Times that she is working on her first movie, which she wrote and expects to helm soon. She is hopeful for the project’s timeline, especially “if we can just get me a second or third self,” she said in jest.
While the Poker Face actress, who is currently filming Season 2 of the Rian Johnson sleuth series, was reticent to share details about the pic’s synopsis, she revealed: “If you’re a dog person, then you’re going to love it, because it plays with time, just like dog years do.” (The veteran actress has a 14-year-old dog named Rootbeer.

Only eight months after the last Emmy ceremony (which was delayed due to the strikes), the Primetime Emmy Awards are back, although there were some big surprises in store. Everyone (myself included) expected The Bear to own every category it was nominated in. While it did well, winning many big categories including Best Actor in a Comedy Series, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress, it lost Best Comedy Series (and actress) to Hacks.
Netflix’s controversial limited series Baby Reindeer also cleaned up, nabbing awards for star and creator Richard Gadd plus co-star Jessica Gunning. But, FX was the evening’s big winner, with their epic series, Shogun, dominating the drama categories, with the great Hiroyuki Sanada winning the prize for Best Actor, and Anna Sawai taking Best Actress, alongside the show’s Best Drama win. It’s amazing to see how Shogun’s become an absolute phenomenon, with the show...

“Thank you. Thank you so much. It’s very humbling. It really is, and I appreciate this. Because I just don’t get enough attention,” said Jean Smart accepting her Emmy tonight, nicely in character as the self-centered comedian trying to stay relevant that she plays in the HBO/Max comedy series Hacks.
“I will never be able to thank you enough for thinking of me for this incredible role,” she said, thanking everyone “at HBO, no, Max, no H — I’m sorry, just what we needed, another network.”
(Pay TV channel HBO contributed its name to Warner Bros. Discovery’s streamer HBO Max, which was then rebranded to just Max.)

Just because your work doesn’t immediately connect with people, that doesn’t mean you should give up. That’s the advice Kristen Wiig, Bowen Yang and Maya Rudolph gave to Lorne Michaels, the celebrated head of “Saturday Night Live” and their former boss, who is about to celebrate his 50th season of the NBC staple.
“We heard something backstage that needs to be addressed,” Rudolph said while presenting at the 76th Emmy Awards. “We heard that our dear friend, our mentor, Lorne Michaels, has been nominated for and lost the Emmy 85 times. He has never won.”
“Never,” Yang emphasized. Immediately, Meyers corrected the two, saying “No,” but he was overpowered.
“It’s just wrong, and we’d like to take this occasion to say a few words to him,” Yang continued.
“No no no no no. Lorne, look at me. It’s really hard to see he’s looking,...

Jean Smart won the Emmy for lead comedy actress on Sunday, recognizing her portrayal of Deborah Vance in Season 3 of Max’s “Hacks.”
This is her third time taking home the gold for her “Hacks” role, and her sixth Emmy win overall. In 2008, she won supporting comedy actress for “Samantha Who?”, and she won guest comedy actress for “Frasier” in both 2000 and 2001.
“It’s very humbling, it really is. And I appreciate this because I just don’t get enough attention. I’m serious,” Smart said upon taking the stage to accept the trophy.

For the second time this year, Hollywood gathered to honor TV’s biggest stars.
After the 2023 ceremony was delayed to January 2024 by last year’s Hollywood strikes, it’s only been eight months since TV’s biggest stars gathered at Los Angeles’ LA Live Peacock Theatre to announce the Emmy winners. Like months ago, “The Bear” stars Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach once again won lead actor and supporting actor in a comedy, and co-star Colón-Zayas also won her first Emmy in the supporting actress race. “Hacks” star Jean Smart won lead actress in a comedy, and in the biggest surprise of the night, HBO’s “Hacks” won outstanding comedy over “The Bear,” which many believed to be the frontrunner.
“The Bear” broke its own record of 10 comedy wins for a single season, which it achieved last year, with its 11 trophies on Sunday, including directing for Christopher Storer. FX...

Is “Shōgun” adding more Emmy hardware to its historic haul? Will “The Bear” break its own record? Those are the big questions heading into the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, which will be broadcast live coast-to-coast from Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. Est/5 p.m Pst on ABC.
Hosted by father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, the main ceremony caps off a television year dominated by “Shōgun,” which already set a record for most Emmys by a drama series in a single year when it nearly swept the Creative Arts Emmys with 14. The FX drama, led by Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada, will attempt to beef up its overall take when it competes with eight nominations in six top categories: drama series, lead actor, lead actress, supporting actor, writing and directing. TheWrap’s awards guru Steve Pond boldly predicts “Shōgun” will go six for six on Sunday.

Maya Rudolph may not have even been in the main cast when then-Senator Kamala Harris began her ascendancy to the Vice Presidency, but that didn’t stop Lorne Michaels from giving her a call and having her swing on back to Studio 8H for a few sketches.
Since then, Rudolph has appeared as Harris on “Saturday Night Live” 10 times, winning Emmy Awards for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2020 and 2021 for her performance and having been nominated this year once again. Despite this pedigree, in a recent interview with Variety, Rudolph admitted that being asked to play Harris during her run for the highest office in the land came as a bit of a shock.
“It’s a huge compliment,” she said. “But it was also very bizarre, because I woke up to an article saying that I was confirmed to play her — and I hadn’t spoken to anyone!

Maya Rudolph opened up in a new interview with Variety.
The 52-year-old Loot actress and Saturday Night Live alum reflected on impersonating Vice President Kamala Harris on the popular late-night show, a role that she is reprising ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
Speaking of political impersonations, Maya revealed another famous face that she was tapped to play while on the show. In fact, things went so far that she even did a dress rehearsal in front of the person before the skit fell apart.
The actress, who channeled Beyonce with a musical number while hosting SNL earlier this year, even spoke about pursuing a music career.

Like so many of us, Maya Rudolph is having a “Girly Pop Summer.”
The musically minded “Loot” star, “Saturday Night Live” icon and “Big Mouth” standout says her household has been a Taylor Swift stronghold for the past few years, and now Charli Xcx, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan are also on repeat.
“I remember the week I was hosting ‘SNL,’ and Charli’s ‘360’ came out, and I was bumping it so hard in my room to get me ready for the monologue,” Rudolph says. “It gave me all my strength, and that really propelled me into the summer.”

Until the 2024 Emmy nominations were announced, the last time an Oscar-winning actress had earned TV academy recognition for a guest appearance on a comedy series was 2019, when Emma Thompson (“Saturday Night Live”) battled eventual victor Jane Lynch (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”). Among those in the running for the next Best Comedy Guest Actress trophy are Academy Award recipients Olivia Colman (“The Bear”), Jamie Lee Curtis (“The Bear”), and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“Only Murders in the Building”), all of whom further stand out from their remaining three competitors in that they are new to the category.
Said three Oscar winners are faced with the daunting challenge of defeating Emmy darling Maya Rudolph, who is seeking her third guest victory for “Saturday Night Live” following triumphs in 2020 and 2021. Also in the mix are veteran nominees Kaitlin Olson (“Hacks”) and Kristen Wiig (“Saturday Night Live”), the latter of whom lost to Rudolph three years ago.

NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” has now won an astonishing 101 Emmy Awards, breaking its own massive record from the 1976 ceremony through 2024. As it now heads into a 50th season in a few weeks, the variety series took six trophies at Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmys and has three more nominations at Sunday’s event. It also has two more opportunities at next week’s Primetime event (Bowen Yang for supporting actor and Variety Scripted Series). The next closest show in second place is “Game of Thrones” with 59 overall.
At Saturday’s ceremony, it triumphed for hairstyling, makeup, production design and lighting design. Technically, it was technical direction category that was the 100th victory. Liz Patrick then won the 101st Emmy for Best Variety Series Directing.

For a while, Maya Rudolph was criminally underappreciated by the TV academy; by 2019 she had only been nominated for three Emmys. But then it’s like a switch was flipped and suddenly it was raining Emmys. She won five times over the next four years: Best Comedy Guest Actress twice for “Saturday Night Live” (2020-2021) and Best Character Voice-Over Performance three times for “Big Mouth”. She’s nominated in both categories again this year, as well as in Best Comedy Actress for her Apple TV+ series “Loot.” Of those, she’s projected to win the voice-over award, which would put her in elite company.
To date only three actors have collected four trophies for character voice-over performances: “The Simpsons” stars Hank Azaria and Dan Castellaneta and “Family Guy” mastermind Seth MacFarlane. That includes years when Best Voice-Over Performance was a juried award and combined character voice-overs with narrators. Character and...

The 11 days allocated for the final round of Emmys voting will come to an end at 10 p.m. Pt on Monday.
My sense from talking to a wide cross-section of voters (including one whose picks will be posted on Friday as this year’s “Brutally Honest Emmys Ballot”) is that all three of the top program categories remain somewhat up for grabs, with two or three contenders splitting the lion’s share of support in each: FX’s Shogun and Netflix’s The Crown for best drama series; FX’s The Bear and HBO/Max’s Hacks for best comedy series; and Netflix’s Baby Reindeer and Ripley and HBO/Max’s True Detective: Night Country for best limited/anthology series.
Meanwhile, Netflix appears to be pulling away in many of the variety and nonfiction categories; among them, best pre-recorded variety special (Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer), best live variety special (G.

A mix of seasoned veterans and fresh-faced newcomers are vying to win the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Comedy this year; it’s almost a shame only one of them can win.
This year’s six nominees include the last two winners: Jean Smart, who has won twice before for her work as stand-up comic Deborah Vance on Max’s Hacks; and reigning champ Quinta Brunson, earning her third nod as levelheaded teacher Janine Teagues on ABC’s Abbott Elementary. They’ll face a strong challenge, though, from The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri, who won in the supporting category...

Giving gorgeous, serving pretty, they did it live from New York City. And now, they’ve been nominated for an Emmy Award. The “Mother’s Day Monologue” song from the Maya Rudolph-hosted episode of “Saturday Night Live” has been nominated for Best Original Music and Lyrics at the 2024 Emmys, with Eli Brueggemann up for the music, and Rudolph, Auguste White, Mike Dicenzo and Jake Nordwind recognized for the lyrics. All five nominees recently spoke with Gold Derby for our “Making of ‘SNL’ Mother’s Day Monologue” exclusive panel interview — watch the video above.
Each person received multiple Emmy bids this year, with Brueggemann also nominated for Best Music Direction, Rudolph also nominated for Best Comedy Guest Actress for “SNL,” Best Comedy Actress for “Loot” and Best Character Voice-Over for “Big Mouth,” and White, Dicenzo and Nordwind also nominated for Best Variety Writing. Maya Rudolph is returning to Saturday Night Live next season to play Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris, something she said “feels so much bigger than me”.
Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Rudolph was asked by guest host RuPaul Charles whether she would be back next season. “Interesting that you brought this up, because no one has asked me,” she joked.
Deadline revealed in July that Rudolph would return to the long-running NBC show to play Harris. Rudolph cleared her schedule, in particular moving production of season three of Apple comedy series Loot, to allow her to be in New York for the next season of SNL. See clips of her as Harris in the video below.
“I’ve never experienced something like this before in any of the work I’ve done. This has been such a tremendous, exciting time for me that feels so much bigger than me or anything I’ve ever done.

“I have to tell you, it has been an experience,” says Maya Rudolph upon being asked about the mounting calls from the public, since Joe Biden’s July 21 announcement that he will not be seeking reelection, for her to reprise her Saturday Night Live impersonation of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, who she previously portrayed on the show in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Speaking exclusively to The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast in front of an audience at the San Vicente Bungalows in West Hollywood, Rudolph, who is currently nominated for four Emmys — best comedy guest actress and best original music/lyrics for NBC’s SNL, best comedy actress for Apple TV+’s Loot and best character voiceover for Netflix’s Big Mouth — continued: “My phone has not stopped. It’s like if I had 50 grandmas and they were sending me articles like, ‘This is the thing I saw you were in!

“Hacks” could join an exclusive Emmys club this year by winning both Best Comedy Actress and Best Comedy Supporting Actress, an accomplishment only nine shows have achieved in Emmys history.
This hit HBO Max laffer stars Jean Smart as Deborah Vance, a stand-up who tries to reinvent her act with the help of a young comedy writer — Ava Daniels, played by Hannah Einbinder.
Smart is nominated this year for Best Comedy Actress alongside Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear”), Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), Kristin Wiig (“Palm Royale”), Maya Rudolph (“Loot”), and Selena Gomez (“Only Murders in the Building”). Meanwhile, Einbinder is nominated for Best Comedy Supporting Actress alongside Meryl Streep (“Only Murders in the Building”), LizaColón-Zayas (“The Bear”), Sheryl Lee Ralph (“Abbott Elementary”), Carol Burnett (“Palm Royale”), and Janelle James (“Abbott Elementary”).
We are predicting that Smart will win the again this year. She previously won Best Comedy Actress for “Hacks” in...
