Save for exceptions like the "Deadpool" movies, the Wolverine character study "Logan," the oft-forgotten "Punisher: War Zone," and the pre-Marvel Cinematic Universe flicks like the "Blade" trilogy, the MCU firmly exists in the land of PG-13 ratings. This is the magic ratings classification that the majority of blockbuster films are trying to fall into, because a PG-13 rating should, theoretically, appeal to the widest age range of viewers possible. G or PG-rated movies are typically viewed as "kiddie fare," while an R or Nc-17 rating is exclusionary by nature — and would segregate younger viewers from the theatrical experience, which certainly won't help secondary markets like toys/merchandise.

Setting the MCU firmly in the range of PG-13 is not just a smart decision from a business standpoint, it's also a great way to maintain the consistency of storytelling and tone.

Captain America: Brave New World’s opening weekend verdict at the box office is out, and it has passed. The film exceeded the industry’s projections, scoring more than the predicted range. It has also beaten Fifty Shades of Grey’s opening weekend collection to achieve the notable feat for February releases. Keep scrolling for more.

The film, which features Anthony Mackie in the titular role, received mixed reviews from critics. Its CinemaScore rating is also worse than some of the other MCU movies, as it has gotten a B-. It was made on a reported budget of $180 million. On the other hand, Fifty Shades of Grey was the first film in the erotic franchise starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. It was released in 2015 and directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.

The joke came during a Q&a section with “Saturday Night Live” alumni Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, in which the celebrity audience asked questions. The “Deadpool” star went second, which Poehler and Fey kicked off by asking him how he was doing.

“Great… Why, what have you heard?” Reynolds said nervously while looking around. Lively sat next to her husband and was visibly surprised by the slight reference, with cameras moving to Poehler and Fey, assuring they hadn’t heard a thing. Reynolds changed topics quickly, asking whether the material for the coneheads from the classic “SNL” sketch was edible.

The rollout of the newest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America: Brave New World, got off to a mixed start, with middling reviews that leaned negative suggesting that the franchise was on the midst of another unexpected underperformer. The year’s first tentpole is reporting a four-day domestic opening of $100 million over the long Valentine’s Day/Presidents Day weekend, including $88.4 million for the three days. Numbers should shift again on Sunday, but either way, it is coming in ahead of expectations.

Globally, it’s starting off with $192.4 million after launching to $92.4 million internationally.

The movie scored one of the top domestic openings for the Presidents Day holiday and the biggest opening of 2025 to date. That’s no small feat considering that many critics dissed the movie. Nor were some moviegoers impressed — Brave New World received a B- CinemaScore from audiences, the worst grade given to any title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Deadline reports that Netflix has scooped up The Forgotten Realms, a live-action Dungeons & Dragons TV series from Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) and Drew Crevello (WeCrashed).

You may recall that the Dungeons & Dragons series was originally developed for Paramount+, which gave it an eight-episode, straight-to-series order in 2023. The project was originally overseen by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Red Notice), and Crevello later joined as executive producer and showrunner. However, it didn’t move forward and Hasbro Entertainment began the process of shopping the series elsewhere.

Crevello wrote the pilot for The Forgotten Realms and will serve as showrunner. He will also executive produce alongside Levy and Dan Levine through their 21 Laps Entertainment banner. It’s still early days, but it could launch a Dungeons & Dragons universe for Netflix.

A new live-action Dungeons & Dragons series, “The Forgotten Realms“, is now in development at Netflix. Deadline reports that the upcoming series has some heavy hitters behind it.

Producer Shawn Levy is teaming with writer/showrunner Drew Crevello (The Grudge 2) and Hasbro Entertainment for “The Forgotten Realms”.

Plot details are scarce at this time, but the series “will take place in the iconic campaign setting and centerpiece of the Dungeons & Dragons universe, a fantasy world that is home to some of the brand’s most famous characters and launchpad for some of D&d’s most popular adventures.”

What’s more is that “The Forgotten Realms“ was initially announced two years ago under a different streamer. “The Forgotten Realms“ received a straight-to-series order in early 2023 with eOne co-producing alongside Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the charming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The live-action “Dungeons & Dragons” TV series has found new life.

Variety has confirmed with sources that a new iteration of the project is currently in development at Netflix. There had previously been a “DnD” series set up at Paramount+ with a series order, but that project ultimately did not move forward due to strategic shifts at Paramount as well as the sale of co-studio eOne by Hasbro. Hasbro Entertainment is also producing the new project.

The series is currently titled “The Forgotten Realms,” named after the famous “DnD” campaign setting. Drew Crevello, who was previously attached as the showrunner of the Paramount+ project, will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the Netflix version. Shawn Levy will executive produce along with Dan Levine via 21 Laps under the company’s overall TV deal with Netflix.
