Broadcast Signal Intrusion Photo: Courtesy of Fantasia
Broadcast Signal Intrusion is inspired by the Max Headroom signal hijacking of two Chicago television stations in 1987. Those behind the hijacking were never identified. In director Jacob Gentry's “historical fiction”, written by Phil Drinkwater and Tim Woodall, video archivist James (Harry Shum Jr.) discovers what he believes to be a broadcast signal hacking. Finding similar signal intrusions, he slips down an obsessive rabbit hole when he realises that they may be clues that will reveal what happened to his missing wife Hannah.
Gentry's previous credits include the ensemble drama Last Goodbye, which explored the connections between a diverse group of characters, including a horror actress, runaway teenager, an alcoholic preacher and a rock band; and the time travel sci-fi drama, Synchronicity. No stranger to horror, he directed the feature film The Signal, and the made-for-television slasher trilogy, My Super Psycho Sweet 16.

Well, here’s some interesting and weird movie news! the classic 1960s Hanna-Barbera kids program The Banana Splits is going to be making a come back as a film! But, there’s a little twist… it’s going to be a horror movie!
The Banana Splits is a TV series that premiered in 1968. It’s way before my time, and I’m not really familiar with it. But I went to YouTube to watch a few videos for it, and it definitely looks like it could and should be a psycho horror movie! Here’s a little description of it:
A laugh track-laden collection of live-action buffoonery and animated segments for undiscerning young minds. Whether in their crazy clubhouse or out cavorting among the public, costumed animal hosts Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky would engage in all manner of harmless nonsense, and even strap on musical instruments to perform hippie-dippie rock numbers.

Gunpowder & Sky (G&S), the digital-first studio founded by former MTV executive Van Toffler, has announced its first project since launching in January: a film adaptation of Eat, Brains, Love -- the zombie road trip novel by Jeff Hart.
G&S will team with independent production studio Diga and digital book publisher Full Fathom Five -- which also creates television shows, films, and video games -- on the forthcoming film. Diga was founded by Tony Disanto, whom Toffler calls his “former work wife and Jersey Shore co-production partner,” while Full Fathom Five is the brainchild of novelist James Frey.
“It’s got everything you need from a movie,” said Disanto in a statement, “high school insanity, zombie sex, action, zombie sex (again) and over the top violence.” Disanto and Toffler also previously produced several teen-oriented horror projects together at MTV including Teen Wolf, Scream, and My Super Psycho Sweet 16.

Not many filmmakers can turn heads with a single release, but Jacob Gentry earned his must-watch potential after striking gold with 2007’s The Signal (a shared effort with David Bruckner and Dan Bush). All eyes were on what Gentry would do next, which ended up being a three-part slasher franchise on MTV known as My Super Psycho Sweet 16 – which, admittedly, weren’t the worst. But his televised splatterfests didn’t showcase Gentry’s full potential, which makes Synchronicity all that much sweeter a return for the ambitious indie auteur. Once again Gentry explodes with genre vibrancy (Sci-fi this time), as we’re transported to a metallic future that’s molded into an engrossing cinematic universe. Gentry does more than make movies, he builds entire worlds. It’s immersion in the fullest form.

Absolutely nobody suffers from road rage like Rusty Nail. In 2001's thriller Joy Ride, the growly-voiced trucker taught a trio of travelers a deadly lesson for pulling a prank on him. The direct-to-dvd sequel, Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead found Rusty targeting some youngsters who were stranded and stupidly "borrowed" a car from him. Now, the bloodiest instalment, Joy Ride 3: Roadkill, hits DVD today.
The movie follows a bunch of streetcar racers – Jordan <Jesse Hutch>, Jewel <Kirsten Prout>, Mickey <Ben Hollingsworth>, Alisa <Leela Savasta>, Austin <Gianpaolo Venuta> and Bobby <Jake Manley> - on the way to a rally. A little too cocky for their own good, they commit the ultimate driving sin against Rusty <Ken Kirzinger> and pay the price for their recklessness.
"They speed past him and Rusty takes exception to it," states Hollingsworth during a break on production. "He pulls out in front of them. They are hotshot kids in a new race car and they show him up and speed past him.

Sometimes it doesn't take much to sell me on a premise. Killogy is one of those, where the notion of three over-the-top criminals squaring off against voodoo magic is too good to resist.
You may already be familiar with Killogy, an Idw comic by Alan Roberts that mixes horror and comedy into a concoction of splatstick madness. Featuring the likenesses of Frank Vincent (Goodfellas, "The Sopranos"), Marky Ramone (formerly of The Ramones) and Brea Grant ("Dexter"), it seems like a no-brainer that this could translate quite easily into some kind of show or movie.
Enter "The Boondocks" creator Rodney Barnes, who will do exactly that. Deadline reports that both Barnes and Roberts will serve as executive producers on a Killogy animated series, which will see Vincent, Ramone and Grant lending their vocal talents to the proceedings.

MTV is really enjoying its run in with the horror genre which began officially several years ago with the original My Super Psycho Sweet 16. Word of another project has just hit the wire, and we continue to be perplexed by when exactly we can tune in to the network to actually hear music.
According to Variety, Victoria Justice (pictured) has been cast in the pilot for MTV’s “Eye Candy.”
She'll be playing Lindy, a beautiful but reclusive hacker whose blog exposes everything from terrorist plots to suspected killers. Convinced by her roommate to begin online dating, Lindy is targeted by a dangerous cyberstalker and believes one of her suitors to be the culprit. When things take a deadly turn, she teams up with the city’s cyber-crime unit to catch the killer.
“Eye Candy,” written by Emmy Grinwis, is based on a novel of the same name by R.L. Stine.

Last night I attended the premiere of My Super Psycho Sweet 16 Part 3. Being a virgin to this series, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had heard that Part 1 was pretty good and that Part 2 was somewhat disappointing, but that's about it. While it's obviously not terrifying or anything remotely resembling it, it is a fun little slasher. McKnight is an appealing heroine and for every major logic issue, there's a nice dig at the 'Jersey Shore'/Ed Hardy mentality courtesy of Niko Pepaj. He plays a character so obviously inspired by "The Situation"...

There is one more Sweet 16 to celebrate. In the third installment of MTV's popular My Super Psycho Sweet 16 film series, Skye's little sister Alex is turning 16 - and she's not happy about it. We chatted with actress Kirsten Prout on bringing out the evil in Alex Bell. Did you ever feel like an outsider with the rest of the cast, since you didn't join the Super Psycho family until part two? No. It was such a great experience. In a sense, I definitely felt like I was part of the journey. At the same time, I got the benefit of getting to observe what a great rhythm the cast had. It was a great vibe and Alex Bell instantly became part of the Super Psycho family. Ever since I have felt like a mainstay in...

My Super Psycho Sweet 16 is the little horror series that could. When the first one premiered on MTV Halloween 2009, it seemed like a throwaway Halloween treat, a quick TV-movie to capitalize on the then-popularity of obnoxious reality show My Super Sweet 16. So who would have thought that now, in 2012, we are on our third installment of the film. We chatted with Lauren McKnight, who has starred in all three as Skye, the daughter of a serial killer. Funny, you wouldn't think she was the daughter of a serial killer just by talking to her... You've been a part of My Super Psycho Sweet 16 since the first film. Did you expect it to be as popular as it is? We had no idea it was going to get the fan base that it...

Dread Central recently caught up with Gentry to discuss ending the My Super Psycho Sweet 16 franchise, what fans can expect from Part Three and how he's reuniting with some of his fellow The Signal alumni for future projects.
Dread Central: How does it feel looking back on where the My Super Psycho Sweet 16 story was in the first film and how everything has culminated up until Part Three?
Jacob Gentry: When I started working on the first one, I always envisioned that fans would see the My Super Psycho Sweet 16 movies kind of like John Hughes meets John Carpenter. Sure, they're slasher movie send-ups, but...
