Marc Maron, Gaby Hoffmann and David Krumholtz have joined the cast of Jeremy Allen White’s Bruce Springsteen biopic “Deliver Me From Nowhere.”

Maron will play Chuck Plotkin, the music producer who mastered Springsteen’s “Nebraska” album, turning his unprocessed cassette demos into a high-quality record. Hoffmann will portray Springsteen’s mother, Adele Springsteen, a singer in her own right who died at age 98 earlier this year. Krumholtz will play Al Teller, a record label executive who oversaw the release of “Nebraska.”

From Disney’s 20th Century Studios, “Deliver Me From Nowhere” follows Springsteen during the creation of his 1982 album “Nebraska,” a stripped-down record that marked a creative shift from the anthemic “Born to Run” and “The River.” The movie is currently filming in New Jersey and New York. Springsteen, who is involved in the making of the film, visited the set earlier this week and was photographed hugging White.

Exclusive: The Fighter Oscar winner Melissa Leo has inked with Gersh for representation.

Leo recently starred in Long Gone Heroes with John Hutcherson and King Ivory, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September.

The New York City-born native who grew up in Putney and Bellows Falls, Vt, won Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars for David O. Russell’s The Fighter as Alice Ward, the matriarch to boxer Mickey Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and his drug-addled brother portrayed by Christian Bale (who also an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for the role). Leo also won a Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice, and SAG awards for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Alice Ward.

Exclusive: Stand-up comic Greg Fitzsimmons announced today that his new special, Greg Fitzsimmons: You Know Me, will premiere on his YouTube channel on Tuesday, August 27.

Filmed at The Comedy Mothership in Austin, TX in November, the special marks his second hour on the heels of 2013’s Life on Stage, which premiered on Comedy Central before moving to Netflix and is now available to stream on Prime Video.

You Know Me finds Fitzsimmons reflecting on 34 years of sobriety, sex with a 57-year-old woman, convincing your children that you’re cool, and combating loneliness on the road. And he realizes, he’s happy where he is.

Fitzsimmons directed the special and also exec produced alongside Matt Schuler. Producers included 800 Pound Gorilla, Jarad Clement and Valentijn Sloot.

A well-respected veteran comic, Fitzsimmons has been working as a stand-up for 35 years and has also thus far put out two half-hour specials for Comedy Central.

We love to see a creative keep scaling up. Watching Pamela Adlon evolve and progress over the last few years has been terrific. An outstanding comedian who rose in popularity on FX’s Louis C.K. comedy “Louie,” after the stint on that series, Adlon graduated to her own similarly personal show “Better Things.” Created by Adlon and C.K., she quickly took over the full reins and started directing on the series as well. And by season two, all the way through its final fifth season, she was directing the entire series and had a hand in writing a bulk of it, too.

This is equally true of reality television, so it’s natural that a master at the former would try his hand at the latter. Such is the origin story of “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show,” a self-reflexive — and self-explanatory — HBO project that follows Carmichael’s award-winning special “Rothaniel” with an even more extended look at the comic’s later-in-life coming out and its effect on his closest relationships. Just don’t call the series unfiltered. “This is not truth,” a friend reminds Carmichael, and by extension, us. “This is narrative.”

Founded in 2014 by Arthur Lener, Amuse Animation began as a multi-channel network (McN) supplying third-party content to YouTube and soon began producing shows for global pre-school audiences. Fueled in part by the pandemic, many pre-school viewers have migrated to YouTube and linear broadcasters are interested in bringing them back by acquiring content from digital-first studios.

Amuse Animation has embraced what it calls a 360º content strategy, combining digital and broadcasting content. It is repackaging its extensive library of shows – mainly short format of five minutes or less per episode – to secure deals with linear broadcasters.

Neon has picked up rights to Pamela Adlon’s directorial debut “Babes,” a comedy starring Ilana Glazer and Hasan Minhaj.

Glazer, the co-creator and star of Comedy Central’s hit sitcom “Broad City,” co-wrote the screenplay with Josh Rabinowitz. The story follows the aggressively single Eden, who becomes pregnant from a one-night stand and leans on her married best friend (and mother of two), Dawn, to guide her through the gestation and beyond.

Michelle Buteau and John Carroll Lynch round out the cast of “Babes.” A release date for the film has yet to be announced.

On Friday, Peacock announced it had renewed the Pete Davidson comedy “Bupkis” for a second season.

Viral comedy sensation “Jury Duty,” is an Amazon Freevee original comedy series that follows 29-year-old man Ronald Gladden as he is appointed juror in a civil trial alongside 15 others. What he doesn’t know, however, is that the trial is fake, and that his fellow jurors, the judge, even the security guards… they’re are all actors.

One of Ronald’s fellow fake jurors is James Marsden, who plays a satirical version of himself in the show. Some may believe being yourself to be an easy task, but what Marsden pulls off in “Jury Duty” eclipses the entire field this year in terms of difficulty. And it’s for this reason he could land an Emmy nomination this year in Comedy Supporting Actor.

The documentary capturing comedian Louis C.K.’s #MeToo scandal has been shelved at Showtime.

Director Caroline Suh (“Blackpink: Light Up the Sky”) was originally set to helm the documentary announced by Paramount Global exec David Nevins in August 2022. Nevins exited Paramount in October 2022.

Showtime confirmed to IndieWire that the documentary would not be moving forward but did not provide additional reasons as to why. Variety first reported the news.

“Louis C.K. is a slightly different situation [compared to Harvey Weinstein],” then-Showtime CEO Nevins said at the time. “[He is] a great, great comedian who has come back in his own way.”

Nevins added, “I don’t think the social change that #MeToo has brought about is resolved at all. There’s a bit of backlash against #MeToo, who has to go away and who’s allowed to come back.”

The documentary was set to chart C.K.’s exit from projects in 2017 following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.

The new Peacock series "Bupkis" is almost working overtime from the get-go to inure itself from any serious criticism. The title alone puts you in mind of something not worth expending much effort upon, but each of the eight episodes begins with a title card and accompanying voiceover essentially shielding co-creator, co-writer, and star Pete Davidson from any serious attacks, specifying that while the series may be inspired by fact, it is still very much a fictional product. "It's bupkis," is the closing sentence of the title card, and the tone of the narrator communicates a sense that none of this is worth getting worked up over. Parker Posey’s beloved 1995 coming-of-age comedy “Party Girl” celebrates a 4K restoration with a national tour to mark the 28th anniversary of the film. “Party Girl” kicks off in New York City at the IFC Center on April 28, followed by a live Q&a with lead star Posey. The film simultaneously debuts in Los Angeles at Glendale Laemmle Theatre and Landmark Westwood Theatre also on April 28, with a live Q&a with film director Daisy von Scherler Mayer.

In the classic film, a 20-something, irresponsible party girl is bailed out of jail by her librarian godmother. To repay the loan, she starts working at the library and gradually turns her life around.

“We made this movie for ‘the kids’ — as we called them — young people from small towns, who had big dreams, and who weren’t, for whatever reason, conforming to the status quo,” Posey shared with IndieWire.

Roseanne Barr is mounting a comeback attempt, five years after she was unceremoniously fired over a tweet joking that former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett — who is Black — was the offspring of the Muslim Brotherhood and “The Planet of the Apes” after the return of her eponymous sitcom “Roseanne” broke ratings records.

Roseanne Barr lashed out at Hollywood in a new interview, suggesting she’s been held to a cancel culture double standard.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times released Thursday, the comedian slammed ABC for firing her in 2018 from her top-rated sitcom Roseanne (which was subsequently rebranded The Conners), and compared her treatment to that of two other popular transgressive comics, Dave Chappelle and Louis C.K.

“They didn’t do it to anyone else in Hollywood, although they always [mention] Dave Chappelle and Louis C.K.,” she told The Los Angeles Times. “Well, Louis C.K. did lose everything, but he committed an actual [offense]. Donald Glover's FX series "Atlanta" was a surreal and winding rollercoaster that departed from conventional television further and further with each subsequent episode. The show felt totally unique, perhaps because of its broad amalgam of influences. The series' creators took lots of inspiration from some pretty unexpected places, some of which might even surprise the show's biggest fans.

The dream-like nature of "Atlanta" has prompted a natural comparison to David Lynch's cult classic mystery series, "Twin Peaks." According to Glover, this likeness was totally intentional. "I just always wanted to make 'Twin Peaks' with rappers," he told Vulture in 2016. As it turns out, Glover had always planned to detach the show from reality over time. "Television shows are like novels, You just got to invest in them," he explained. "The tone of this, it's going to take people time to figure out what's going on, which I think is a good thing.

Peter Bogdanovich

When Peter Bogdanovich was twelve-years-old, he began keeping a record of every film he saw, even including reviews, a practice he kept up for decades, seeing as many as four hundred films a year. This sparked a love of movies and he was intent on becoming a director. Bogdanovich caught his break when he happened to strike up a conversation with Roger Corman at a screening, who quickly offered him a job.

Budd Friedman, the founder of The Improv comedy club, has died. Deadline confirmed his death with The Hollywood Improv. He was 90.

Friedman recently had a celebration for his 90th birthday at the Hollywood Improv. We hear there will be tributes to him tonight on-stage at the venue.

In a statement to Deadline, the Improv said, “The comedy world lost a giant today. He was not a stand-up comedian or sit-com star or movie legend. But he gave birth to a generation of artists who defined American comedy and culture for decades.”

Friedman opened up the Improv in New York City in 1963 shortly after quitting his job as an advertising executive with the goal to become a theatrical producer. The coffee house attracted the likes of Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, Albert Finney, Christopher Plummer and Jason Robard. Dustin Hoffman and Bette Midler, who were not widely known also performed at the club at the time.

Rolling Stone has updated their list of the 100 Greatest TV Shows of all Time–and it has some glaring omissions due to some “canceled” stars.

For starters, The Cosby Show (1984-1992) is nowhere to be found. Rolling Stone’s original list came out in 2016 and also omitted The Cosby Show–two years after allegations of sexual abuse and rape by Bill Cosby came to light. Despite the monstrous behavior of Cosby, leaving The Cosby Show off of such a list if a serious oversight. It is undoubtedly one of the most important and groundbreaking sitcoms ever, with an all-black cast and characters like doctors and lawyers, snubbing stereotypes.

Another show notably missing is Roseanne (1998-1997), ranked on the 2016 list at #70, the magazine calling it a “blast of Midwestern blue-collar grit that made all other Eighties sitcoms look like contemptible fluff.” In 2018, Roseanne Barr’s racist tweets got both her and...

It was the best of times and the worst of times at the 64th Primetime Emmys which took place at the then Nokia Theatre on Sept. 21, 2012.

It was the best of times for “Modern Family” because ABC sitcom took home its third straight Emmy for Best Comedy Series plus prizes for featured players Julie Bowen and Eric Stonestreet, and helmer Steve Levitan.

And it was the worst of times for AMC’s landmark “Mad Men,” which had won Best Drama series for four years running. In 2012, the period drama was in contention for 17 Emmys only to be shut out in every category. That was the record for the most losses until last year when Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” left empty-handed despite 21 bids.

For the first time in Emmy history none of the four major broadcast networks earned nominations for drama series, drama actor or drama supporting actor.

Louis C.K.’s fall from grace will now be at the center of a #MeToo documentary for Showtime.

The network announced plans for a documentary about C.K. after he stepped away from projects in 2017 following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. The “Louie” creator recently won his third Grammy for a 2020 self-released comedy special “Sincerely, Louis C.K.” and debuted the film “Fourth of July” earlier this summer.

“Louis C.K. is a slightly different situation [compared to Harvey Weinstein],” Showtime CEo, Paramount+ chief content officer, and Paramount TV head of scripted originals David Nevins said during the Edinburgh TV Festival in Scotland, as reported by Variety. “[He is] a great, great comedian who has come back in his own way.”

“Modern Family” reigned over the Emmys in its first few years, claiming Best Comedy for each of its first five seasons, from 2010-2014. A decade ago, it was in the middle of this streak, not only winning in this category, but tying for most nominations (nine) and wins (four) of the night. The other five nominees in this category were “30 Rock,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Girls” and “Veep,” which did score a major victory.

In early June, controversial comedian Louis C.K. dropped a surprise announcement that he was releasing a new feature project, Fourth of July, an indie dramedy which he directed, co-wrote, edited and stars in. On Thursday, Fourth of July had its world premiere at a sold-out Beacon Theatre in New York, with fans of C.K. flocking to see a movie that is likely to have a very limited release.

Fourth of July not only marks C.K.’s return to filmmaking but is also part of his attempts to return to the mainstream following allegations of sexual misconduct from multiple women. In 2017, the comedian was accused by five women of undressing and masturbating in front of them – allegations he admitted to and apologized for. The allegations came at the height of the #MeToo movement and resulted in several companies severing ties with C.

When Louis C.K. attempted to restart his career after his sexual misconduct scandal, he did it gingerly by performing unannounced sets in small comedy clubs. He’s essentially doing the same thing with his return to filmmaking. This low-budget indie dramedy being released in a smattering of movie theaters (as of now, it’s not scheduled to be screened by any of the larger chains) reveals the controversial comic working in an uncharacteristically muted fashion. Lacking the acerbic edge of his brilliant work on the sitcom Louie and web series Horace and Pete, Fourth of July turns out to be something we would have never expected from its director/co-writer — bland.

Partly this seems because he’s working in collaboration with comedian Joe List, who co-wrote the screenplay, executive produced and stars in the lead role of Jeff, a recovering alcoholic and anxiety-ridden jazz pianist.

Pamela Adlon has zeroed in on her first post-Better Things project.

The Emmy-winning talent will make her feature directorial debut on an untitled pregnancy comedy for FilmNation Entertainment and Range Media Partners from a script by Ilana Glazer and Josh Rabinowitz.

Broad City breakout Glazer will star in the film playing Eden, an aggressively single woman who, after getting pregnant from a one-night stand, leans on her married best friend and mother of two to guide her through gestation and beyond. Actress, writer and stand-up star Michelle Buteau will play the best friend, Dawn.

Filming is set to begin in July in New York City. Glazer is producing through her Starrpix banner alongside Rabinowitz, Range Media Partners co-founder Susie Fox, and FilmNation’s president of production Ashley Fox. FilmNation, Range and CAA Media Finance are handling U.S. sales of the project with FilmNation also overseeing international.

Comedian Louis C.K. has revealed on his website on Friday that he directed a new indie film called “Fourth of July.”

The indie film will premiere at New York’s Beacon Theatre on June 30, before rolling out to other venues on July 1.

“Fourth of July” was written by Joe List and C.K. The “Louie” creator also self financed and directed the project. The film centers on a recovering alcoholic and jazz pianist in NYC who confronts his acerbic family during their annual Fourth of July vacation.

For most of her acting career, Pamela Adlon was best known for her voice, even though she rarely felt like she had one of her own.
