(2009) Storm
(In Danish with English subtitles)
FAMILY DRAMA
Co-written and directed by Giacomo Campeotto that has 12 or 13 year old Freddie (Marcus Rønnov) bullied by former classmate, Mads (Sebastian Solá-Gross Kristensen) for speaking to what Mads describes as "his girl" Anna (Frederikke Hjort Arentz). And upon Freddie biking home from school, he then witnesses a dog owner, Simon (Søren Malling) acting aggressive to his half dachshund greyhound mix dog while retrieving it. Freddie then by biking follows his vehicle for the intention of finding out where he lives so that he knows which house the dog is residing before he heads back home. We then find out what his family life is like as he lives only with his dad, Bjørn (Troels Lyby) who happens to work in law enforcement in an apartment building. And during supper, Freddie would then save some of his dinner for the intention of giving it to the dog he returns back so that it can gain it's trust. And when Freddie's dad goes to work, he would then get his neighbor, Fru Anderson (Kirsten Lehfeldt) to look after him. And it was at the second or third day, Freddie then decides to kidnap Simon's dog from his property. He then gives it a name calling it "Storm" -hence the title, (despite it may already has a name on it as a result of the dog tag) since when Freddie decides to kidnaps it, he thought he was saving it from an upcoming and supposedly dangerous storm that was hitting the area. Down the line, it soon becomes a race dog in the most ridiculous of circumstances.
I like family movies, but only if it has the ability to challenge me as an adult. I hate the consistent lying Freddie does to his dad, which the director fails to invoke those emotions that drags the film making it feel that it is actually longer than it's 1 hour and 30 minute running time. It is like Freddie had already forgot that his dad is a law enforcement officer frustrating viewers to know that Simon was asking too much for the dog. That with the price Simon was asking should be able to buy five different dogs.
