A little popularity breeds a genre move, and Fox is getting into the game with Sleepy Hollow. With similarities to several shows that are turning in solid enough numbers on both broadcast and cable networks, Sleepy Hollow takes fantasy and alt-history to a new level, mixing its headless horseman in with the Bible and the Revolutionary War.

We meet Ichabod (Tom Mison) on the battlefield in the Revolutionary War, and we’re just in time to see him come up against a masked giant who seems somewhat indestructible. Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.

Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.

Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.

On Monday Fox unveiled their primetime slate for the 2013-2014 television season to the national advertising community during its annual Programming Presentation at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. The network announced 5 new comedies, 4 new dramas, a first event series, and an animated comedy from Seth MacFarlane.

Some of today’s most inventive directors working in film have smoothly segued from motion pictures to series TV and their new shows have found a home at Fox. What caught my attention were the sci-fi, fantasy shows bearing the names of Abrams, Shyamalan, Kurtzman and Orci.

Of course I was excited about these new Fox shows as soon as I learned about their Fringe provenance, but Wait Until You See These Trailers. It’s hard to get a real feel for a show just from the synopsis, but I’m including the new upgraded synopses for each so that you have all the information.

It appears that Sleepy Hollow will premiere early fall on Mondays at 9, following Bones at 8. After an initial run of Bones episodes, Almost Human will take the Mondays at 8 slot, in “late fall”.

9:00-10:00 Pm - "Sleepy Hollow" (new; fall) / "The Following" (midseason)

"Sleepy Hollow" will also air repeat episodes on Friday nights from 9:00-10:00 Pm.

Outside of the role of Finnick Odair and Johanna Mason, one of the most heavily discussed roles in the new Hunger Games sequel is that of Enobaria, a previous tribute who factors heavily into Katniss’s continuing adventures. The discussion ends today though, as Lionsgate just announced that Meta Golding has been cast in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as the former career tribute known for the intense and gruesome way she came to win her particular games.

The sequel sends previous game victors Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark on a “Victor’s Tour” of Panem’s 12 districts, during which Katniss notices the birth of a rebellion and President Snow announces the 75th Annual Hunger Games. During the 1968 Democratic National Convention in late August, various rallies and demonstrations took place in protest of President Lyndon B Johnson’s policies for the Vietnam War. One particular rally, The Grant Park rally, was attended by thousands of protesters and after it was over some attempted to march to the International Amphitheater—where the convention was being held—but were stopped by police.

This marked the beginning of physical confrontations between protesters and the police for five days. Hundreds of police officers as well as protesters were injured.

As a result, eight protesters were charged with various crimes, including conspiracy to incite a riot. The eight–David Dellinger, Rennie Davis, Tom Hayden, Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Bobby Seale, John Froines and Lee Weiner–were reduced to seven when Seale was severed from the case and sentenced to four years for contempt of court.
