Stephanie Hsu said she could not contain her laughter for several takes when Sabrina Wu's Deadeye was explaining their nickname to Kat by putting on a blank expression.
In addition to a cameo appearance, Daniel Dae Kim was involved with casting suggestions. He recommended Ashley Park (Audrey) and Stephanie Hsu (Kat) after working and befriending them on Broadway productions.
Director Adele Lim said the genital tattoo scene with Kat was inspired by a friend of hers who was a full-on freak in college. She was afraid the production company would tell her, "Fuck, no!" But she said when you work with Seth Rogen's company, their reaction is, "Fuck, yes!"
The film was completed in March 2023, days before its South By Southwest premiere.
The first day of filming was when the four were stranded in China after being kicked off the train.
