India’s movie industry is booming! The first half of 2024 brought in over $600 million at the box office. That’s pretty awesome, and even better than last year.
Leading the way was the sci-fi flick “Kalki 2898 Ad.” It made an impressive $92 million all on its own! No wonder – the movie about a future robot uprising looked pretty awesome. It really helped boost June’s numbers to over $144 million.
Coming in close behind was “Fighter,” the air force action movie in Hindi. It took in $29 million. Not far behind that was “Hanu-Man,” a Telugu take on mythology and superheroes that made $28 million.
Some other big hits made the top ten list too. “Shaitaan,” a Bollywood suspense thriller scared up $21 million. “Manjummel Boys,” a emotional Malayalam film about survival, netted $20 million. And “Guntur Kaaram,” a Telugu action drama, fought its way to $17 million.

As the Indian film industry reaches the midpoint of 2024, Malayalam-language cinema from the southern state of Kerala has emerged as the breakout success story, while traditional powerhouse Bollywood recalibrates after an uneven start to the year.
“This year has been the year of Malayalam cinema,” says former Disney India head and veteran producer Siddharth Roy Kapur in his half-yearly analysis of the Indian entertainment business for Variety. “With four films crossing INR100 crore [$12 million] each at the box office, it has really come into its own commercially.”
The four films Roy Kapur is referring to are “Manjummel Boys” ($29 million), “The Goat Life” ($19 million), “Aavesham” ($18.6 million) and “Premalu” ($16 million) that occupy positions three, six, eight and nine respectively on the 2024 Indian box office chart.

Hanu Man
Starring Teja Sajja ,Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar
Directed by Prasanth Varma
Is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it is Hanu Man! Mischievously plucking out a portion of our mythology, Hanu Man pitches an innocent sweet-faced Teja Sajja against a red-hot evil ‘mega-man’ (Vinay Rai).
The fight between Good and Evil is designed in the form of a digitalized epic. Does the gambit play off? It does. The crackerjack screenplay converts the dead-serious earnestness of the Marvel kingdom into fun-filled good fest.
Although the film’s budget is meagre (20 crores) it looks much larger, and far more playful than the Western super-hero films.
Hanu Man is a cheeky film , relying on the young hero’s goofy antics more than his powers to save the world. Save the world is so unrealistic. How about save the village from extraneous marauders? Or save the sister from getting married...

Hanu Man Movie Review Is Out! (Picture Credit: Rkd Studios/Youtube)
What’s Good: If a 60-crore film starts to feel better than a 600-crore film (ahem… Adipurush… ahem…), you know what would be good!
What’s Bad: Some unnecessary subplots, a weak villain & the film industry’s unfair trait of supporting big stars
Loo Break: Just the interval, as the film is close to 2 hours 45 minutes
Watch or Not?: If you can digest the weaknesses over the strengths above
Available On: Theatrical release
Runtime: 2 hours 38 minutes
User Rating:
Set in the fictional village of Anjanadri, this is a story about how an ordinary pick-pocket from the village Hanumanta (Teja Sajja) gets the superpower of Lord Hanuman to fight against the injustice done by the dictatorship of the classists.

IMDb has released the list of the most anticipated films of 2024, and as expected, Hrithik Roshan & Deepika Padukone’s Fighter is ruling this list at number 1. Based on popularity, Siddharth Anand’s film, where the superstars play Indian Air Force Officers, is winning hearts, and people are excited to watch the film on January 25.
What makes Fighter interesting is Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s fresh pairing, which has grabbed a lot of eyeballs already in the teaser and songs. The most interesting part of IMDb’s list is the ratio of Bollywood to South Indian films.
Despite Bollywood films finally beating the South Indian films at the box office in 2023, the excitement and buzz for South Indian films is currently higher than for Bollywood films. 11 South Indian films appear in the list of top...
