Jane Goldman chats to us about writing Kingsman, Stardust, The Walking Dead and more...
Ever since teaming up with Matthew Vaughn a decade ago to adapt and write Stardust, Jane Goldman’s profile as a writer has been on the rise and rightly so. As has already been stated many times in our interviews for Kingsman 2 over the last week, with both Mark Strong and Vaughn himself – the films they’ve made together have been fantastic and highlights of each of the genres they’ve represented, whether fantasy (Stardust), comic book (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class), or spy (Kingsman).
We sat down with Jane Goldman for a chat about her love of film and writing process and found her in fine spirits, full of laughter and happily enthusing about variety of topics close to our hearts, ingratiating herself further into the realms of geekdom, as we started...

Another Tuesday, another round-up! But first a riddle: What do Elton John, Iron Fist, and the X-Files have in common? They’re all in today’s Harker’s Hits!
• You loved the X-Files when it came back this year. You must have more. And now you can! The Blu-ray and DVD are dropping June 14. (That’s 63 days, kids! Start counting your pennies!) You’ll be able to relive every moment and search for clues with Mulder, Scully, Reyes, Skinner, and the Smoking Man. You’ll find commentary on several episodes; “Monsters of the Week,” a recap of some of the craziest creatures who crashed the series; and even a gag reel (you know you like to see Duchovny laugh!), in among other treats and treasures. Pre-order here!
• Despite the divisive reception to Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Ben Affleck’s not quite ready to give up his onscreen alter ego.

Mad Max Fury Road, Star Wars The Force Awakens and The Revenant were all massive hits in 2015, but sneaking under the radar for both commercial and critical acclaim was Kingsman: The Secret Service. Now new details are starting to emerge on the sequel from director Matthew Vaughn, with the title confirmed as being Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
Fans of the first instalment also have a few details of the new story to whet their appetites over, with reports that the film will be moving away from the streets of London and, instead being set in America. The story, it seems, will focus on a team up with the American version of the Kingsman, known simply as the ‘Statesman’.
The Golden Circle will star Taran Egerton, reprising his role as local chav turned suave super-spy ‘Eggsy’. Mark Strong will also be making his return as the Q inspired quartermaster ‘Merlin...

Kingsman: The Secret Service sees director Matthew Vaughn reteam with co-writer Jane Goodman to adapt a Mark Millar comic riffing on a beloved genre. So it’s Kick-Ass, just for spies then? Those jokey summaries really write themselves.
But witticisms aside, that really is what Kingsman comes across as. The same pervasive self-awareness runs through the film, and if you strip down both movies’ narratives of their respective genre there are some astonishing similarities. Like, spoiler-level similarities. An action beat in Kingsman even mirrors a now-iconic move from Hit-Girl.
There’s no 22 Jump Street winking to suggest this is intentional, but rather than seeing the writing team fatigued and repeating the same tricks, hewing to type affords them a broader creativity. So yeah, Kingsman is Kick-Ass with spies. But as big budget spy movies are much more fertile and epic ground than superhero comics, that leaves...

Street artist scoops most entertaining documentary prize at Grierson Trust British Documentary Awards
Street artist Banksy has won the most entertaining documentary prize at this year's Grierson Trust British Documentary Awards.
As usual, he did not appear in person to collect the award for Exit Through the Gift Shop– an amusing faux documentacoops prizery – but sent a message to the audience at the ceremony in London tonight.
Jury chairman Emma Hindley said: "The winner was a unanimous decision. It's a flawlessly made film; original and insightful, it asks questions rather than telling you what to think and at the same time, manages to be very, very funny."
The best documentary series went to Patrick Forbes for Channel 4's insight into Hampshire Constabulary in The Force, while Julian Temple's look at industrial and economic decline of America's Motor City in Requiem for Detroit for BBC2 won best historical documentary.
