Well… Karma is a concept that several people choose to believe and not believe. The examples of karmic retribution, however, are plenty. Take, for example, Rupert Murdoch and Johnny Depp.

It has often been seen that families delve into feuds regarding finances especially if they are rich. The Murdoch family, one of the most recognizable media families in the world, is going through something similar to Succession.
Rupert Murdoch And His Family Are In Some Trouble
Many movies and projects have depicted rich families that are broken from the inside. Shows like The Fall of the House of Usher and Succession show just how far people are willing to go for money.

Horror fans rejoice! After being removed from Netflix, where it was originally released in 2016 following its premiere at SXSW that year, Mike Flanagan’s edge-of-your-seat thriller, “Hush,” is finally receiving a U.S. theatrical release. This news comes a month after it was announced that the film would also get its first physical release on 4K, featuring both a restored version of the original cut, as well as a new black-and-white “Shush Cut” with remixed audio, which premiered at Beyond Fest on September 27. The film is also now available to stream on Shudder.
“Hush” was co-written by Flanagan’s wife and longtime collaborator, Katie Siegel, who also stars in the film. She plays a deaf writer who retreats to the woods to work in solitude, only to find herself under attack by a masked killer. Known for its unique and chilling soundscape, the film toggles back and forth between the...

Mike Flanagan has cemented himself as one of horror's truly great modern storytellers. From his miniseries on Netflix like "The Haunting of Hill House" to underrated gems such as "Hush," the man has earned the trust of viewers. He's also earned the trust of Stephen King, as Flanagan has made two movies based on the author's work; "Gerald's Game" and "Doctor Sleep." In both of those cases, the material was incredibly difficult to adapt, yet Flanagan got it done. While the filmmaker isn't through with King, there is a project that he wishes hadn't gotten away from him.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about his new King adaptation "The Life of Chuck," Flanagan was asked if there was a project that he felt was "the one that got away." He was quick to cite his planned adaptation of King's 2014 novel "Revival," which he wrote a script for before the project ultimately fell apart.

Sophie Thatcher is a certified scream queen.
The “Yellowjackets” breakout star has gone on to appear in “The Boogeyman,” act opposite Hugh Grant in A24’s buzzy “Heretic,” and now lead elusive horror-thriller “Companion” alongside Jack Quaid.
“Companion” only has a mysterious faux ad for its tagline, reading, “Hey you. Tired of swiping? Sick of getting ghosted? Are you feeling like a part of you is missing? FindYourCompanion.com is guaranteed to find you a Companion who’s made for you.”
Audiences can also text (978) 878-5683 to find their Companions — and yes, that is a real phone number with data rates applying.
The teaser trailer does show Thatcher seemingly being stalked, chased, and perhaps even murdered, before then getting her hand lit on fire from love interest for Quaid’s character. Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend also star.

When it comes to horror television, I think it’s safe to say that Mike Flanagan has cornered the recent Netflix market with five fantastic series on the streamer. But with great influence comes great debates about which show of the five is the best. Ultimately, that honor should go to Midnight Mass, Flanagan’s 2021 series about a small island that is rocked by a religious revival with deadly consequences. Yes, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Midnight Club, and last year’s The Fall of the House of Usher are all great in their own right, particularly Hill House, but there is just something so special about Midnight Mass, which out of the Netflix TV mix is Flanagan’s only fully original work. While Hill House set a high bar as Flanagan’s freshman TV outing, Midnight Mass takes the elements fans have come...

While Stephen King is known as the King of Horror, he has produced masterpieces when he deviated from his usual genre. Examples of such works include The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption. Now, King’s sci-fi novella, The Life of Chuck, from his collection If It Bleeds is adapted into a film, that debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The new horror and science fiction anthology, “Deepest, Darkest,” has added yet another cast mate to its already stellar lineup of genre heavyweights.

“‘Deepest Darkest’ is an exciting project combining all my favorite genres and my favorite people. Joining this project was a no-brainer for me,” says Kohli, expressing his enthusiasm early in the process to Variety.
Kohli joins the previously announced cast of Smith (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”), Rosario Dawson, Ernie Hudson (“Ghostbusters”), Yetide Badaki (“American Gods”), Phil Lamarr and “Quantum Leap” stars Raymond Lee and Caitlin Bassett.
To top off that impressive lineup, the genre showcase is executive-produced by Akela Cooper and David Dastmalchian.

Lego versions of any franchise are always a tongue-in-cheek delight. Mike Flanagan knows how to get under our skin. The horror auteur gravitates toward themes that deal with generational trauma and cyclical grief, entwined with supernatural manifestations of such visceral emotions. His Netflix horror hits offer a variety of scares: series like "Midnight Mass" mix religion-tinted bouts of vampirism with acute human loss, while his rendition of "The Fall of the House of Usher" maps the disintegration of a generational legacy marked with greed, betrayal, and pain. Apart from helming effective horror films like "Hush" and "Oculus," Flanagan has also adapted seminal literary works, including Stephen King's "Doctor Sleep" and "Gerald's Game," which the director has invested with inimitable depth.
As someone so well-versed with the inner machinations of the genre, is Flanagan easily spooked? Maybe not anymore, but horror movies "scared [him] too much" as a child, until he came to appreciate the terrifying ability of the written word...

Mike Flanagan is not just one of our modern horror masters, but he's proved to be one of the very best there is at adapting Stephen King's work for the screen. Between "Gerald's Game" and "Doctor Sleep," he's done the unthinkable not once, but twice. Two of the least-adaptable King novels were brought to life in brilliant fashion. Now, Flanagan is back with another King movie in the form of "The Life of Chuck," which is earning rave reviews on the festival circuit. However, it turns out Flanagan almost lost that opportunity thanks to his currently gestating adaptation of "The Dark Tower."
King's "The Dark Tower" series is his magnum opus, consisting of multiple novels spread out over decades. Flanagan is now working on adapting those books into a show. That's great news for fans of King's work. However, as the filmmaker recently noted in an interview with Vanity Fair,...

Writer/director Mike Flanagan knows a thing or two about life and death. For years, he’s used the horror genre to explore the subject thoroughly across limited series like “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Fall of the House of Usher,” as well as films like “Oculus” and the adaptation of Stephen King’s “Doctor Sleep.” For his latest, “The Life of Chuck,” another King adaptation that recently premiered at TIFF, Flanagan forgoes his usual frights for a much more fanciful narrative that nonetheless faces the quandaries of mortality with the same kind of inventive introspection he’s become known for. While discussing the film with cast members Tom Hiddleston, Karen Gillan, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, Flanagan recently told the Los Angeles Times that when it comes to his own death, he’d like to mark it as a somewhat joyous occasion.

Mike Flanagan is known for his brilliant take on the horror genre. Some of his most famous works are Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House and The Fall of the House of Usher. And we now have a poster and teaser to further whet your appetite as spooky season kicks into high gear.
The trailer doesn’t give much away plot-wise.
We have the same lo-fi, found footage aesthetic as the previous V/H/S flicks, but it looks like this one will be taking us in more of a sci-fi direction.
Fans of Event Horizon and the Alien films, rejoice!
In keeping with tradition, Beyond will feature a slate of shorts directed by some...

Director Mike Flanagan is planning his upcoming The Exorcist sequel and it seems that things are going well. More on the horror sequel below.
Mike Flanagan, the mastermind behind The Haunting Of Hill House, The Fall Of The House Of Usher and Midnight Mass, is due to direct a new sequel to The Exorcist. After The Exorcist: Believer was a bit of a dud, all eyes are on Flanagan to deliver the goods with the next one.
Flanagan is currently promoting The Life Of Chuck, another Stephen King adaptation, which just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. The director previously adapted Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game from King’s stories and is hard at work adapting the infamously difficult The Dark Tower.
Flanagan’s take on The Exorcist has been described as “radical” and The Hollywood Reporter asked Flanagan where all the confidence comes from.
“We aren’t making this easy on ourselves,...

One of the most sublime impersonations of Harrison Ford isn’t from anyone on SNL rather his former Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill who can nail the gruff low bass of the Han Solo actor.
Prior to his interview in the Deadline studio for the movie, The Life of Chuck, we got Hamill going with his Ford impression, here he regales the actor’s interaction with a David Blaine magic trick. Give it a watch below. Hamill’s Ford is the gift that keeps on giving.
In Hamill’s latest reteam with Mike Flanagan, which is based on the Stephen King novel, he plays the wise grandfather to young Chuck, Albie Krantz. The pic charts a man’s life in reverse, from death to birth, chiefly that of Chuck (played by Tom Hiddleston). If you want to understand the human drama and joie de vivre at play in Life of...

In just over a decade, Mike Flanagan went from promising indie director to one of the best American genre filmmakers working today. Starting with Absentia and Oculus, he soon worked his way up to studio fare (Doctor Sleep) before spending the past several years making Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House and The Fall of the House of Usher. With The Life of Chuck, his first film in five years, Flanagan takes a step away from horror to make an elaborate drama about life and mortality. It’s only a slight step outside of his wheelhouse, as he’s adapting a non-horror novella by none other than Stephen King, an author he worships for better and worse.
Shown in reverse order, the film opens with “Act Three,” which focuses on schoolteacher Marty (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and his ex-wife Felicia (Karen Gillan), a nurse at the town’s overwhelmed hospital. We...

Fans of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula have been chomping at the bit for news about season six of the dark-themed competition series. Well, Shudder has now released the premiere date, along with a few other nuggets of info.
The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula has come a long way since the first season, which aired on YouTube. Shudder picked up the series starting with Dragula: Resurrection, which was filmed at the contestants’ homes during the Covid quarantine, and season four picked up the following year. This year, Dragula and the Boulets were nominated for two Emmy awards (for makeup and hairstyling).
In addition to six seasons and Resurrection, the Boulet Brothers are also responsible for Dragula: Titans, which also aired on Shudder. Contestants on Titans were all prior competitors on various seasons of Dragula.
When does season six of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula premiere on Shudder?

Mike Flanagan’s home invasion horror movie Hush (2016) made its debut on Digital courtesy of Shout! Studios just last week, the film finally available to watch again after disappearing from streaming for the past couple years. The film has also never received a physical media release, but we’ve learned that’s all changing thanks to Scream Factory later this year.
Hush comes to physical media for the very first time in a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray Collector’s Edition release from Scream Factory on November 26, 2024, the company announced today!
Scream Factory previews, “This highly anticipated Collector’s Edition includes a newly restored 4K version of the film, supervised and approved by Director Mike Flanagan.
“Additionally, a new black-and-white version of the film, nicknamed the “Shush Cut,” with a new audio mix will be featured. This mix removes nearly all of the score, providing a different effect that is just as terrifying as the original.

Last week, I was lamenting about the overabundance of YA shows and movies centered around rich and evil teens and tweens, which usually have nothing to offer other than “drama.” Hence, Untamed Royals felt like a change of pace as it contrasted the lustful and reckless nature of teens who have nothing but opulence with the utter helplessness of those who have known nothing but poverty. This week, I’m here to talk about the overabundance of “adult” shows about insanely rich families that pretend to say something about wealth but end up making a case for those who, in another time, should’ve been sent to the guillotine instead of being empathized with. Some of the insufferable (either due to its writing or its fandom) examples that are coming to mind are The White Lotus, Succession, Schitt’s Creek, The Crown, and Big Little Lies. Sharp Objects and The Fall of the House of Usher...

A scene from ‘Strange Darling’ (Photo credit: Magenta Light Studios)
The opening crawl of Strange Darling says that the movie is about the last few murders of a prolific 21st Century serial killer whose reign of terror moved from Colorado to Wyoming and ended up in the woods of Oregon.
And that’s pretty much all you should know about the plot of the movie before you go see it.
With Strange Darling, writer/director Jt Mollner (Outlaws and Angels) redefines the cat-and-mouse thriller. What seems like a one-night stand situation goes horribly wrong for the characters, who are known only as The Lady (Willa Fitzgerald from The Fall of the House of Usher) and The Demon (Smile’s Kyle Gallner). Strange Darling is a visceral film that checks off just about every content warning box imaginable – violence, sex, drug use, all of them. And there is a twist at every turn.

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details from the plot of Magenta Light Studios’s Strange Darling.
If you’re not familiar with the name Willa Fitzgerald, you will be soon.
A 33-year-old Nashville native who’s been working for a decade-plus, Fitzgerald has drawn notice to this point for a few prominent turns on television. Notable credits in that area include Reacher, The Fall of the House of Usher, and Scream: The TV Series. But it’s in Strange Darling, an ingenious, low-budget thriller from rising filmmaker Jt Mollner, that she’s found what should be a star-making role.
Strikingly shot on 35mm by actor-turned-dp Giovanni Ribisi, Strange Darling seemed to come out of nowhere when it hit theaters last Friday, almost a year after its Fantastic Fest premiere. But within a short amount of time, and without the marketing support of a genre breakout like Longlegs, the film...

Playing like Percy Jackson for grownups, with a dash of American Gods and Hadestown thrown in for good measure, Netflix’s dark comedy Kaos is packed with big ideas that creator Charlie Covell struggles to explore in any depth.
Over eight hour-long episodes, my response to Kaos and its often clever upending of mythological tropes went from “That’s really cool, I can’t wait to see what they do with that” to “That’s interesting, but I know it won’t go anywhere” to “Meh.” With an impressive cast, a cheeky tone and little investment in substantive follow-through, the show goes from promising to frustrating to disappointing — albeit with tantalizing hints throughout of what could have been.
Jeff Goldblum commands attention throughout as Zeus, the all-powerful yet fiercely neurotic king of the gods and overall facilitator of a humanity that still worships them. Ruling from Mt. Olympus with his...

The storied V/H/S horror anthology series is going to the great beyond. The Hollywood Reporter has the first trailer for V/H/S/ Beyond, the seventh installment in the franchise, which launched in 2012 as a project featuring multiple found-footage short films.
The latest chapter focuses on sci-fi horror, and bows at the genre-centric Fantastic Fest next month in Austin before hitting the streaming service Shudder on Oct. 4.
V/H/S/ Beyond‘s segments include “Stowaway,” directed by Kate Siegel and written by her partner, The Fall of the House of Usher creator Mike Flanagan.
Justin Long, who starred in horror hit Barbarian, directs and writes “Fur Babies” with brother Christian Long. Meanwhile V/H/S/‘s Justin Martinez returns with “Live and Let Dive,” which has a story by Martinez and Ben Turner.
Virat Pal’s “Dream Girl” is the first Bollywood entry to V/H/S/ and was shot in India. Pal wrote it with Evan Dickson.

Mike Flanagan’s home invasion horror movie Hush has been unavailable to stream for a while now, and with no physical media release available at this time, well, the Netflix movie had seemingly dropped off the face of the planet entirely. This week, however, it’s back.

[This story contains major spoilers for Strange Darling.]
Willa Fitzgerald’s former Reacher co-star Alan Ritchson once called her the best actor he’s ever worked with, and that was before he’d seen her critically acclaimed performance as The Lady in Jt Mollner’s Strange Darling. Fitzgerald’s bold turn is being hailed by many critics and viewers as the finest work of her career, and the opportunity was able to present itself because her tenure on the aforementioned Reacher was limited to just one season.
The popular Amazon Prime series takes its cues from Lee Child’s Jack Reacher book series and changes up its cast and setting with each passing season. Fitzgerald’s exit then opened the door to Strange Darling and Mike Flanagan’s The Fall of the House of Usher, but she’s never been fazed or frustrated over the fact that she had to depart a series that wound up being a smash hit.

Mike Flanagan, who has established himself as one of the most consistent and celebrated horror directors working today, has weighed in on the rumors that he might be in talks with DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran about potentially helming a project in the Dcu.
Back in March of last year, Deadline reported that Flanagan had approached the studio with an idea for a solo Clayface feature. Details were few and far between, but it was said that "the character wouldn't be depicted as a villain" in the pitch.
Flanagan has been vocal about wanting to be involved in a Clayface project in the past, describing his hypothetical take as a “standalone horror/thriller/tragedy.”

Strange Darling is unusual for a 2024 genre release; loud, nasty, nuanced, not particularly scary, or particularly marketable. Its entire appeal hangs on not only knowing as little about its plot and various twists as possible, but being willing to happily ride along with one of the most vicious and deplorable characters in recent memory too. It’s a big ask; a bold swing towards something very rarely seen in genre circles this decade – genuine originality. But thankfully, something which writer/director Jt Mollner and his team pull off gorgeously.
In fact, this writer would go so far as to say that Strange Darling is the most exciting genre movie of the year. Strange Darling Breakout Star Willa Fitzgerald Discusses Her Role in the Twisty Thriller (Interview)
The new romantic thriller Strange Darling is filled with A-list names like Kyle Gallner (Scream), Ed Begley Jr., and Barbara Hershey — not to mention Giovanni Ribisi behind the camera as a producer and the director of photography. However, the true highlight of the film is Willa Fitzgerald (The Fall of the House of Usher), whose breakout performance in the lead role is utterly captivating.
We at FandomWire got the opportunity to speak with Willa Fitzgerald about her role in Strange Darling and why she thinks it’s such a unique specimen in the horror genre. Check out the full interview below!

Jt Mollner’s romantic thriller Strange Darling is the type of movie that is best experienced knowing as little as possible. In fact, you probably shouldn’t even be reading this review. Take it from us: it’s a good movie — a lean, entertaining 96-minute thriller. Go watch it. But if you need more convincing as to why Strange Darling is one of this year’s finest indie gems, we’ll oblige.
Strange Darling Review
The film follows a man and a woman who get together for what seems like a relatively standard one-night stand, only for it to intersect with a serial killer’s vicious murder spree. From the first shots, you might think this is just another ‘70s thriller/Texas Chain Saw homage/rip-off, but as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Mollner has crafted a much more exciting experience for audiences.

If you’re wondering where to find the next generation of great filmmakers, look no further than YouTube. Running a channel involves pumping out content on a regular basis, shooting and editing your own videos (on a limited budget), and learning how to grow an audience; self-taught skills that will come in handy when it comes to making a first feature. A prime example of this is Danny and Michael Philippou, who started off making horror comedy shorts on their channel RackaRacka and went on to direct the very successful Talk To Me. And now there’s another name to add to that list: Chris Stuckmann and his debut feature Shelby Oaks.
For over a decade, Stuckmann has been reviewing movies on YouTube, raking in millions of subscribers. A couple years ago, he set out to make a movie of his own, and launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund it,...

The cast continues to get bigger and more impressive now that production is underway on Lionsgate’s The Long Walk, an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1979 novel. Kate Siegel has faced plenty of threats – supernatural and otherwise – in her collaborations with husband Mike Flanagan, which include Oculus, Hush, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gerald’s Game, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher. Now Deadline reports that she’s set to face the biggest bad of all, as she’ll be taking on the devil himself in the dark comedy Damned If You Do!
The feature directorial debut of the filmmaking duo of Jake Rubin and Evan Metzold, who are working from a screenplay written by Ellen Adair and Eric Gilde, Damned If You Do will follow a group of teenage friends who sold their souls to the devil. Naturally, life grants them different paths: a rock star, a tech mogul, and a high-profile activist. Years later, they must rely on an old classmate to try...

One of our favorite scream queens has set her next project. We're talking about The Fall of the House of Usher star Kate Siegel. She's set to star in and executive produce an upcoming dark comedy called Damned If You Do. More on this project below.
Siegel is known for starring in many horror-based films and shows. Besides The Fall of the House of Usher, most people will recognize her from her roles in other Netflix horror shows such as The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass. She's also known for starring in the horror flicks Oculus, Hush, Ouija: Origin of Evil and Gerald's Game.
While we have enjoyed Siegel's performance in every horror project she's been a part of so far, we're really looking forward to seeing her take on a different genre. She's an incredible actress, so we're sure she'll knock her...

Hush and “The Fall of the House of Usher” star Kate Siegel is starring and executive producing the new Hellish dark comedy Damned If You Do, and production is underway, according to Deadline.
The film follows “a group of teenage friends who sold their souls to the devil. Naturally, life grants them different paths: a rock star, a tech mogul, and a high-profile activist. Years later, they must rely on an old classmate to try and escape Hell’s grasp before the contract’s deadline of their 25th high school reunion.”
Written by Ellen Adair and Eric Gilde, Damned If You Do marks the directorial debut of Jake Rubin and Evan Metzold.
It’s not yet clear which role Siegel will play, but expect the film to have a lot of fun with its soul-selling premise. Rubin and Metzold told Deadline, “We feel very lucky to be working with such a talented and hilarious cast.
