These days, actors often move between daytime, primetime, and streaming on a regular basis. Most recently, stars from The Young and the Restless, Days of Our Lives, and General Hospital popped up in law-and-order-type dramas.
A Person of Interest
Y&r’s Christopher Cousins (Dr. Alan Laurent) is someone who has a slew of primetime credits to go along with his daytime stints on As the World Turns, One Life to Live, and, currently, Y&r. Over the years, He’s appeared on shows like The O.C., The Vampire Diaries, Criminal Minds, The Resident, and Supernatural.
On Oct. 15, he guest starred on ABC’s High Potential. He played John Ashford, the father of a woman whose child was missing. He was also one of the main suspects. Cousins’ character was super shady and kept you guessing as to whether he was the episode’s big bad.

When Billy Crystal regularly hosted the Academy Awards, he liked to begin the show with a montage where he was inserted into the nominated films. The 2000 opening leaned more on Hollywood history, with Crystal appearing in vintage films like The Graduate and Psycho. There were still jokes about that year’s movies, though, like when a Charlie Chaplin homage included a title card where Crystal quoted the most famous line from The Sixth Sense: “I see dead people.” Crystal later had some more fun with the M. Night Shyamalan sensation with a song parody,...

I’m not saying Apple TV+ has an issue with repetitive storytelling, but the new drama Before is the service’s third series featuring a renowned comic actor playing a man mourning his dead wife. Not the streaming platform’s third series ever to rely on that hoary trope. Not even their third series this year to draw from that particular well.
Before, with Billy Crystal grieving a dead spouse, follows Disclaimer, with Kevin Kline grieving a dead spouse, and the second season of Shrinking, with Jason Segel still grieving a dead spouse. That’s three shows with this core conceit to premiere since… October 11.
Unfortunately, Big Widower Energy is far from the only way that Before feels like Apple TV+’s most Apple TV+ piece of programming to date. You could show me any glum, washed-out frame from Before and, even without knowing who was in it or what show it was from,...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for The Chicken Sisters finale.
Adapted from Kj Dell’Antonia’s book, The Chicken Sisters, which was a Reese’s Book Club pick in December 2020, Hallmark’s eight-part series of the same name aired its finale on Hallmark+, becoming one of the first complete shows that helped launch the streaming app for the network.
Set in the fictional town of Merinac, the series follows two dueling dynasties behind warring fried chicken restaurants — Mimi’s and Frannie’s — which dived the town in terms of loyalty. Complications within the Mimi’s family line add to tension between the businesses, especially when daughter of Mimi’s owner Amanda Moore Hiliard (Schuyler Fisk), who is married to a Frannie’s boy, reaches out to Kitchen Clash, a reality food competition show, to consider the feud for their new special. This brings Mae Moore (Genevieve Angelson), the other daughter...

Note: The following story contains spoilers from “Shrinking” Season 2, Episode 3.
“Shrinking” star Lukita Maxwell opened up to TheWrap about how back-to-back lightning strikes delayed, but ultimately helped, her emotionally explosive scene with Brett Goldstein’s controversial character.
Grab your tissues because Season 2, Episode 3, titled “Psychological Something-ism” was quite the doozy, as it was the first time Maxwell’s character Alice confronts the drunk driver who was involved in her mother Tia’s (Lilan Bowden) fatal car accident. Goldstein joined the cast this season for that role, named Louis. In the scene, Alice walks into Louis’ place of work — a cafe — where she sits down and is pleasantly greeted and offered service.
However, after telling Louis that she’s the daughter of the woman he mistakenly killed and he tries to console her, Alice bursts into a fury-driven emotional breakdown and tells him to “shut up.” The scene ends with her...

Wednesdays mean new episodes of Shrinking season 2. Yay! We're back with more of the comedy drama on Apple TV+. This week's episode was a really good one, and I'm excited to jump right into things. Here's our recap and review of Shrinking season 2 episode 3, "Psychological Something-ism." Spoilers Below.

Alright, so it seems like the Grace storyline has been wrapped up now. Jimmy first tries to get Donny to drop the charges against his wife, but he's as unpleasant as ever and refuses to. Though because of the history of abuse and his multiple felonies, the state has decided not to press charges as they feel like they don't have a strong enough case. Hooray! This is amazing news. However, Grace is not happy and that's because of the guilt she feels for pushing Donny off a cliff and not getting punished for it
At first, she decides to go back to him.

Shrinking isn’t afraid to get messy, and Shrinking Season 2 Episode 3 delivers an emotional rollercoaster that will have you laughing one minute and wiping away tears the next.
“Psychological Something-ism” is all about making mistakes — big ones, small ones, and the kind that make you want to crawl into a hole.
But in true Shrinking fashion, it reminds us that life’s screw-ups are what make relationships stronger, even if they get a little tangled along the way.
(Apple TV+)
From Alice’s reckless outburst to Liz’s well-meaning disaster and Jimmy’s heartfelt victory, this episode was packed with moments that made you think, “Oh no, they did Not just do that.”
But hey, that’s what keeps us coming back for more!
Alice’s Grief Takes Over, Leading to a Major Misstep
We knew Alice was teetering on the edge, but wow, did she jump headfirst off the emotional cliff this time?...

Having successfully smuggled a weekly dose of therapy into three seasons of football sitcom Ted Lasso, Apple cut out the middle man with the first season of Shrinking. Aiming for that same _Lasso_ian sweet spot between puerility and poignance, the show introduced us to psychotherapist Jimmy Laird (Segel). Still grieving the loss of his wife, Jimmy decides to go rogue with his patients, telling them what he really thinks — much to the chagrin of colleagues Gaby (Jessica Williams) and Paul (Harrison Ford).
In many ways, Shrinking’s first outing replicated the experience of therapy-going pretty accurately — if not so much in content, then certainly at least in form. The early throes were a little tense, a little quick to overcompensate for trauma-dumping with uneasy humour, and a little slow to really open up and begin letting moments of sincerity and vulnerability pierce its sardonic armour.

You could pretty much call any adult who sings with puppets to be strange, but Jason Segel has run with it, once being called “weird” and making a career of it. And judging by Forgetting Sarah Marshall, he’s more man than muppet…
Appearing on Today (with Entertainment Weekly), Jason Segel remembered his time working with Judd Apatow initially on Freaks and Geeks, in which he played Rush-loving drummer Andopolis. It was here that Segel – like so many – was taken in by Apatow, who provided the budding actor with advice that would change his course. “It was a bit of an apprenticeship period, where we literally learned how to write a script. And his parting words to me were, ‘Listen, Jace, you’re a weird dude. The only way you’re going to make it is if you write your own material.’ He was right, and it changed my life.

We're heading twenty thousand leagues under the sea, behind the scenes of a superhero blockbuster, and returning to the therapist's sofa in a jam-packed episode of the Pilot TV Podcast this week. First up, on the guesting front, Captain Nemo himself, Shazad Latif, joins us this week to chat Nautilus on Prime Video with our very own journalistic old sea dog James Dyer [26:53 — 43:02 approx]. HBO‘s Harry Potter series will be “a little bit more in-depth than a two-hour film,” the company’s television boss Channing Dungey has confirmed.
Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, was a keynote speaker at MIPCOM’s C-Suite Conversations, a partnership between MIPCOM Cannes and Variety, on Monday afternoon. She heads up the world’s biggest television studio, currently producing content across all formats and genres, including hits such as Shrinking, Abbott Elementary, Ted Lasso — season four of which Dungey said show star, head writer and co-creator Jason Sudeikis is “really excited” about (more on that below) — The Sex Lives of College Girls, Harley Quinn and The Bachelor.
But there’s one project no one can stop talking about, which Variety co-editor-in-chief Cynthia Littleton acknowledged on Monday, “I don’t think, legally, I’m allowed to let you off the stage without asking about this,” she said.

Jason Segal and Harrison Ford will be back for a third series of Bill Lawrence’s Apple TV comedy, Shrinking.
If you haven’t been watching Shrinking on Apple TV+, I would urge you to give it a go. It’s a beautifully-written, warm-hearted comedy that gives Harrison Ford the opportunity to show off comedic skills so good it’s a shame he wasn’t being cast in sitcoms all through his career.
Shrinking is the latest show from Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence. He co-created the show with Jason Segel and Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein.
In it, Segel stars as therapist Jimmy, who’s struggling following the loss of his wife. He begins to take liberties with his work, telling patients exactly what he thinks. Harrison Ford, showing a brilliant flair for deadpan comic delivery, plays his hardnosed boss Paul, Jessica Williams is his colleague Gaby and Christa Miller is his neighbour,...

Many have come to know actor Jason Segel for his childish humor on shows like “How I Met Your Mother” and in films like “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” but with his Apple TV+ series “Shrinking,” Segel aims to expand people’s perception of him. Speaking in a recent interview on “Today” with Hoda Kotb, Segel shared how he values getting to take on more serious and nuanced subject matter with “Shrinking,” especially in relation to his early days in show business.
“I appreciate being 44 years-old all of a sudden,” Segel said. “When I made ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall,’ for example, the rawest form of vulnerability I could think of was full frontal nudity. That’s a 25-year-old guy. And this is, I think, a more sophisticated version of vulnerability that you only achieve from life stuff. You know, saying I’m scared or realizing you let your daughter down and trying to earn back that trust,...

The hit Apple TV+ series “Shrinking” features an unlikely pairing between actors Jason Segel and Harrison Ford. Despite their 38-year age difference, Segel and Ford have developed strong on-screen chemistry playing opposing therapist roles on the show.
Segel plays Jimmy Laird, a grieving therapist who uses unconventional treatment methods. Ford portrays Dr. Paul Rhoades, a veteran therapist handling Parkinson’s disease. In a recent interview, Segel said working alongside Ford validated his career path. “If you have doubts and then find yourself acting opposite Harrison Ford, it’s impossible not to feel you’re right where you should be,” Segel remarked.
The stars’ collaboration almost didn’t happen. Producers feared Ford, known for action roles, wouldn’t take a comedic part. They suggested he watch “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” one of Segel’s comedy films. The 2008 movie includes a notable nude scene featuring Segel’s character.

Shrinking’s Jimmy and Gaby have been enjoying the spoils of a mutually beneficial friendship-with-benefits, but in Episode 2, their special arrangement topples in the messiest of ways.
Throughout Season 2’s first two episodes, Gaby knows she’s got to hit-it-and-quit-it. Not only is she starting to catch feelings for Jimmy, but something as small as a scrunchie reminds her of a harsh truth: That she’s sleeping with her late friend’s widower. Even Liz is working overtime to keep these two apart for fear that it’ll explode their friend group. (“I’ve tried everything except knocking his d–k out of your mouth!

Jason Segel is opening up about his reason for leaving Hollywood following the success of How I Met Your Mother.
The actor made a recent appearance on the Today show, where Hoda Kotb brought up Segel’s decision to move out of Los Angeles once the CBS sitcom wrapped in 2014. “You did something so interesting,” she said. “A lot of people would’ve just taken a big dive into Hollywood, but you did something else. You pulled up stakes and moved away from all that. Why’d you do that?”
“I was having a really roaring twenties,” the Shrinking star and co-creator responded. “I had How I Met Your Mother and I was also writing a bunch of movies that were successful and doing well.”

When one door closes, a new one opens, at least that’s the case on Apple TV+ these days. A mere week after saying goodbye to the most recent seasons of critically acclaimed series “Slow Horses,” “Bad Monkey,” and “Pachinko,” the streaming service is welcoming the return of its Emmy-nominated comedy “Shrinking.”
In Season 2, the unique comedy about a recently widowed therapist (co-creator and Emmy nominee Jason Segel) who abandons traditional methods in favor of being brutally honest with his patients thoughtfully expands upon its foundation. The new season — the first two episodes of which are currently streaming on Apple TV+ — finds Segel’s Jimmy and his colleagues, Gaby (Emmy nominee Jessica Williams) and Paul (Oscar nominee Harrison Ford), digging deeper into their own issues, including the latter’s Parkinson’s diagnosis. With more laughs and a couple of new faces thrown into the mix, including Emmy winner and series co-creator Brett Goldstein,...

Created by Segel with Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein — the latter, who joined the cast in a key guest role for the second season — the cast also includes Harrison Ford in one of his first television roles.
The renewal news was announced Thursday at New York Comic Con when Segel and Goldstein — along with castmembers Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell and Ted McGinley — took the Main Stage for a discussion around season two, which is now streaming its first two episodes.

One multiyear pandemic, two Hollywood strikes and New York Comic Con is back for its “first true, full event” kicking off Thursday.
And though the early days of Covid-19 are behind us, certain aspects of how live events changed between 2020 and 2024 are apparent in this year’s show — like the inclusion of a free livestream for several of the con’s top panels held at New York’s Javits Center for the four-day event.
While some might see that as giving away free content for a ticketed event, New York Comic Con owner ReedPop views it as a worthwhile business decision to maintain relationships with consumers.
“I think there’s a lot of benefit for us to make our content accessible for fans that aren’t able to come,” ,” event director Kristina Rogers told Variety. “And I’m a true believer in, New York Comic Con brings the best of pop culture to the world,...

It’s always a little concerning when nepo babies follow in their famous parent’s footsteps — particularly when they make eerily similar art. The wiser ones branch off and do their own thing. No one would say Sofia Coppola’s films are like Francis’s. Goodrich, the second feature by Hallie Meyers-Sherer, daughter of the beloved Nancy Meyers (Father of the Bride), sees the writer-director cutting from a cloth similar to her mother’s. Narrowly saved by a strong lead performance by Michael Keaton, Goodrich unfortunately feels like a shallow carbon copy of a Nancy Meyers movie.
Goodrich Review
The film follows an art dealer (Keaton) who finds himself in over his head when his wife suddenly checks into rehab, leaving him to care for their young children by himself. Those hoping this would be a nuanced take on themes like substance abuse, divorce, and single parenting will be disappointed...

Survivor is a weird game. Genevieve was essentially invisible at the start of the season. Except, apparently, she’s running the Lavo tribe. It’s not something that just popped up out of the blue, either. She’s always been fully in the mix. She’s proving to be a good player, with interesting and insightful confessionals. Even though Lavo did not go to Tribal Council this week, she still got plenty of time to shine once again, and the show seems to have settled in with her as a key focal point for the rest of the time on the show.
