Bau: Artist at War, a Holocaust feature that stars Emile Hirsch as real-life artist Joseph Bau, has landed a theatrical release for early next year.

The historical drama film from director Sean McNamara (Reagan) is set to hit theaters Jan. 24, 2025, with distribution from Showbiz Direct and Republic Pictures. Rounding out the cast are Inbar Lavi, Josh Zuckerman, Brittany Mitchell, Adam Tsekhman, Eugene Lipinski, Michael Benyaer, Josh Blacker and Yan Tual.

Bau: Artist at Work’s inspirational story centers on Holocaust survivor Bau (Hirsch), who relied on his creativity and wit while in concentration camps, and whose skills as a forger helped many to avoid the atrocities of those camps. AnnaSophia Robb has been cast in a lead role of the NBC drama pilot “Grosse Pointe Garden Society,” Variety has learned.

NBC ordered the pilot back in February. The logline states, “Four members of a suburban garden club, all from different walks of life, get caught up in murder and mischief as they struggle to make their conventional lives bloom.”

Robb will star as Alice, described as “your favorite high school English teacher, a dreamer whose best dreams are crashing down on her. She’s a longtime member of the Grosse Pointe Garden Society.”

Robb’s recent credits include Season 1 of “Dr. Death” at Peacock as well as both “The Act” and “Little Fires Everywhere” at Hulu. Her other TV credits include “Mercy Street” and “The Carrie Diaries.” In features, she has starred in projects like “Lansky,” “Words on Bathroom Walls,” “Soul Surfer,” “The Way Way Back,” and “Bridge to Terabithia.

Exclusive: Briarcliff Entertainment has snapped up North American distribution rights from Concourse Media to Christian Swegal’s true crime thriller Sovereign, starring Nick Offerman, Dennis Quaid and Jacob Tremblay.

Newton series The Big Cigar has rounded out its cast, with Jaime Ray Newman (Dopesick), Noah Emmerich (Dark Winds), John Doman (City on a Hill), Chris Brochu (Zero Contact) and newcomer Brenton Allen coming aboard in recurring roles. André Holland leads the cast, with Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone, Pj Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Jordane Christie, Moses Ingram, Olli Haaskivi and Glynn Turman also set to star, as previously announced.

The six-episode limited series, based on the eponymous Playboy magazine article by Argo‘s Joshuah Bearman, tells the extraordinary, hilarious, almost-too-good-to-be-true story of how Black Panther leader Newton (Holland) relied on his best friend, Bert Schneider (Nivola) — the Hollywood producer behind Easy Rider — to elude a nationwide manhunt and escape to Cuba while being pursued into exile by the FBI.

Newman will play Roz Torrance, with Emmerich as Schneider’s brother Stanley, and Doman as his father Abe.

If you were planning on rewatching Martin Scorsese’s mob masterpiece “Goodfellas” in memory of late stars Ray Liotta and Paul Sorvino, you have until August 31 before it leaves Netflix. Scorsese classics “Taxi Driver” and “The Departed” also take a bow at the end of the month.

You also have a limited time to revisit Tom Cruise defying gravity and the speed limit in three “Mission Impossible” movies, as well as Captain Smith going down with the ship in “Titanic,” which sails off the service on August 31 as well.

This June on HBO and HBO Max will play host to a new season of “Westworld,” a new adaptation of “Father of the Bride” and much more.

The big new Warner Bros. release on HBO and HBO Max this month is “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” which actually debuted on the HBO Max streaming service on May 30. The third film in the Wizarding World prequel franchise first hit theaters in April, and is now available to stream in 4K.

There’s also the updated version of “Father of the Bride” premiering on June 16, while a pair of noteworthy documentaries are coming on the early side this month: “The Janes” premieres June 8 and follows unlikely outlaws in pre-Roe v. Wade America who defied state legislation that banned abortion, while “Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain” debuts on June 9.

Not content to let Netflix’s Stranger Things or Prime Video’s The Boys to dominate the summer TV landscape, HBO is coming through with a new season of one of its big hits. Westworld season 4 is set to premiere June 26 on both HBO and HBO Max. What will this season of the increasingly confusing sci-fi drama be about? Per HBO’s synopsis it will be “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” So you know, only that.

Irma Vep is the only other Max Original of note this month. Based on a 1996 cult classic of the same name, this limited series stars Alicia Vikander as a disillusioned movie star looking to remake the early 20th century French silent film serial Les Vampires.

Exclusive: Film Mode Entertainment has picked up international rights for All My Friends Are Dead, the latest horror from Saw 3D and Saw VI director Kevin Greutert.

The deal was unveiled at Cannes and will see Film Mode distribute outside North America. Cinedigm holds North American rights and invested in All My Friends Are Dead producer Roundtable Entertainment in March, revealed by Deadline. The film is leading Roundtable and Cinedigm’s 15M thriller slate.

After almost three absurdly long years, “Stranger Things” Season 4 is just around the corner. A tentpole series for Netflix — at a whopping production cost of reportedly 30 million per episode — the fan-favorite sci-fi show that launched its young adult cast, led by Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard, into superstardom will be dropping new episodes May 27.

The year is somehow already almost over! To celebrate another passage around the sun, Netflix is putting its best foot forward with its list of new releases for December 2021.

Netflix’s options of original series are quite vast and impressive this month. It starts early on with two finales: Lost in Space wraps up its story with a third and final season on Dec. 1 and is quickly followed by the last go-around for Spanish hit Money Heist. The blockbusters continue apace from there with The Witcher season 2 premiering on Dec. 17, Emily in Paris season 2 on Dec. 22, and Cobra Kai season 4 on Dec. 31 to close out the year.

The holiday season is almost here and Amazon Prime is getting in the mood with its list of December 2021 releases. Sure there are the usual Christmas movies to be found but the real gift this month are two big original titles.

The sixth and final season of beloved sci-fi series The Expanse premieres on Dec. 10. Amazon is doing its usual release strategy of three episodes on the premiere day followed by a weekly schedule so there’s still some time to be spent with the crew of the Rocinante. The other big ticket item is the Desi and Lucy biopic Being the Ricardos on Dec. 21. Sure, Aaron Sorkin seems to be completely disinterested in I Love Lucy and Nicole Kidman bears no passing resemblance to the iconic comedienne whatsoever but uh…it’s a movie!

Netflix will close out the year by debuting its biggest awards contenders and popular series like Season 2 of “The Witcher” and Season 2 of “Emily in Paris.”

But the headline releases are on the film side. December 1 brings the streaming premiere of “The Power of the Dog,” Jane Campion’s Best Picture favorite starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee. On December 10, Netflix drops “The Unforgivable,” a new drama with former Best Actress winner Sandra Bullock. On December 24, it’s Adam McKay’s star-studded Best Picture hopeful “Don’t Look Up,” with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett, Rob Morgan, Timothee Chalamet, Tyler Perry, Ariana Grande, and Mark Rylance. August 2021 brings some other original films of note to Amazon as well.

Film aficionados will want to keep an eye on Amazon Prime Video in August, as the streaming giant is set to debut two Cannes Film Festival premieres: “Val,” a new documentary about Val Kilmer that uses archival footage shot by the actor himself, and “Annette,” Leos Carax award-winning musical (it won best director at Cannes) starring Adam Driver and Maron Cotillard and featuring music by Ron and Russell Mael of Sparks.

But beyond the Prime Video originals, the Amazon library content added to the service next month is vast and impressive. Among the major movies coming to Prime Video include “Aliens,” “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” “Jaws,” “Moneyball,” and “Predator.” Meanwhile, IMDb TV, the free service that users can access without a corresponding Amazon Prime subscription, will host “Apollo 13,” “La La Land,” and “Ghostbusters” among many other big titles.

Dennis Quaid will play Rick Kirkham in the upcoming Peacock series “Joe Exotic.” Kirkham, an American journalist based in Norway, was the “Tiger King’s” reality show producer. Quaid joins previously announced series leads Kate McKinnon, who will play Carole Baskin, and John Cameron Mitchell, who will play Joe Exotic. It was also recently announced that Brian Van Holt will play John Reinke, Sam Keeley will play John Finlay and Natt Wolff will play Travis Maldonado.

Adapted from the Wondery Podcast of the same name, “Joe Exotic” centers on Carole Baskin (McKinnon), a big cat enthusiast, who learns that fellow exotic animal lover Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel (Mitchell) is breeding and using his big cats for profit. Dennis Quaid has entered the tiger’s den and will join Peacock’s Joe Exotic (working title) as Rick Kirkham.

The limited series, based on the Wondery podcast, the Emmy-nominated actor will take on Joe’s reality show producer. He will appear opposite Tony Award winner John Cameron Mitchell who is set to star as Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel, as previously announced. Other cast members announced to this point include Emmy winner Kate McKinnon, who plays Carole Baskin, Brian Van Holt, who plays John Reinke, Nat Wolff, who is set to portray yet another of Joe’s husbands, Travis Maldonado, and Sam Keely who will play John Finlay.

Trevor Donovan, best known for starring in the teen drama “90210” and several Hallmark Channel rom-coms, has been cast in the upcoming Ronald Reagan biopic.

The independent film, titled “Reagan,” features Dennis Quaid as the 40th president of the United States of America. It tells the story of Reagan during his childhood, through his acting career and into the highest office in the United States. Donovan will play Reagan’s longest-serving Secret Service agent John Barletta.

Though an exact release date hasn’t been announced, “Reagan” is expected to debut sometime in early 2022.

“Reagan” was filmed at the former president’s ranch outside of Santa Barbara, Calif. It’s the first film to ever shoot on the property where Reagan resided, which became known as the Western White House.

Dennis Quaid is set to star in a film at MGM and LightWorkers called “On a Wing and a Prayer” that’s based on the true story of a passenger who successfully landed a plane after the pilot died mid-flight.

“On a Wing and a Prayer” is a faith-based family film that will see Quaid reuniting with director Sean McNamara, who previously worked with the actor on “Soul Surfer.” McNamara is also directing Quaid in the upcoming Ronald Reagan biopic “Reagan.” Brian Egeston (“Perfect Harmony”) wrote the script.

In the film, Quaid will play Doug White, who in 2009 was flying on a private King Air plane when the pilot suddenly died, forcing White to communicate with air traffic controllers and find a way to safely land the plane and rescue his family that was aboard.

Two-time Golden Globe nominee and SAG Ensemble winner Dennis Quaid will star in MGM and LightWorkers’ faith-based family drama, On a Wing and a Prayer. The pic marks the actor’s third reteaming with filmmaker Sean McNamara after Soul Surfer and the upcoming biopic Reagan in which Quaid plays the title role as the 40th U.S. President. On a Wing and a Prayer will be released through MGM’s distribution and marketing joint venture United Artists Releasing.

After a small-town pilot dies unexpectedly while flying the plane, passenger Doug White (Quaid) is forced to land the plane safely in order to save his entire family. Based on an astonishing true story, On a Wing and a Prayer follows one man’s harrowing journey to save his family from insurmountable danger.

Brian Egeston (Perfect Harmony) wrote the screenplay which is being produced by Roma Downey and Autumn Bailey-Ford. Mark Burnett will executive produce the project.
