'Love Lust & Lies' is the fifth film in a documentary series director Gillian Armstrong
began filming in Adelaide, South Australia in 1976.
Each documentary has been a landmark
film, with the feature length 'Not Fourteen Again' premiering at the 1996 Berlin
Film Festival, winning the AFI Award for Best Documentary the same year, and
subsequently having a highly successful theatrical, video, and television release
on the ABC and BBC.
The previous four documentaries in the series are: 'Smokes and Lollies' (1976),
'14's Good 18's Better' (1980),
'Bingo Bridesmaids and Braces' (1988),
and 'Not Fourteen Again' (1996).
The three women - Kerry Carlson, Josie Petersen and Diana Doman - all live
in suburban Adelaide, a city of about one million people, in South Australia. Because of the characters' commitment to truth and their generous
relationship with filmmaker Gillian Armstrong over such a long period, all the films have
captured a depth, openness and intimacy about these three ordinary but
extraordinary women.
Director Gillian Armstrong won the Australian Directors Guild 2010 ADG Award for Best Direction in a Documentary Feature for this film.
