Stumbling upon the 2020 Chinese action movie "The Mask of Shura of Fire Cloud" and seeing that it had Wah Yuen on the cast list, of course I opted to sit down and watch the movie. Sure, I had never heard about it, so I didn't really know what I was in for here.
The storyline in "The Mask of Shura of Fire Cloud" was mildly entertaining. I mean, the movie was watchable, but it was by no means a milestone in Chinese cinema. And truth be told, I have to say that the movie had a rather forgetable storyline, and it was a movie that you could easily leave running while you get up to get a snack or something and come back and still be up to speed with the story.
I was initially thrilled to see Wah Yuen on the cast list, but he was not in the movie for a very long time, so that was sort of disappointing. The movie does, however, also have Siu-Lung Leung and Qiu Yuen on the cast list. So if you are familiar with the classic "Kung Fu Hustle" movie, then you will definitely recognize some faces on the screen. The acting performances in "The Mask of Shura of Fire Cloud" were fair enough, though nothing outstanding really.
Visually then "The Mask of Shura of Fire Cloud" was okay. The special effects were adequate, but they could only do so much for a subpar storyline.
Aside from the strange title of the movie, then "The Mask of Shura of Fire Cloud" was something you could watch once, be mildly entertained, then shelf it and never return to watch it a second time.
My rating of "The Mask of Shura of Fire Cloud" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.
