- A married couple who share a love for cricket begin training in the game due to her natural talent.

- Mahendra is a failed cricketer who couldn't make it. He had an amazing ability to read the ball in the bowler's hand and predict what the bowler was going to do. Unfortunately, the selectors were never watching when he was on strike. Mahendra set up the entire game with his innings, but his fellow batsman took the strike in the final over and was impressing the selectors. Benny Dayal Shukla (Rajesh Sharma) was Mahendra's coach. Mahendra ran out the fellow batsman and took strike for the final ball with 4 runs needed. He mistimed his shot and was caught on the boundary, losing the game. Benny saw this and refused to support Mahendra in his quest for selection.
Mahendra lived with his father Hardayal (Kumud Mishra), mother Geeta (Zarina Wahab) and brother Sikander (Arjit Taneja). Hardayal was not supportive of Mahendra's cricket and wanted him to handle the family sports shop. Mahendra wanted one more year to fulfill his dream, but Hardayal was not supportive and forced Mahendra to give up the sport. Hardayal loves Sikander who is an actor and has won the "Best Son" award for the TV show he is currently starring in. Sikander lives his entire life on social media and even buys likes for his posts to maintain his persona. Guddan (Dheerendra Kumar Gautam) is an employee at the shop.
The virtue of an arranged marriage brings together Mahendra "Mahi" Aggarwal (Rajkummar Rao), a failed cricketer, and Mahima "Mahi" Sharma (Janhvi Kapoor), a doctor living in Jaipur. Mahima lives with father Trilok (Purnendu Bhattacharya) and Mother Yamini (Yamini Das). Having the same nickname, Mahi, they together become Mr. and Mrs. Mahi, akin to the nickname of Dhoni. They soon discover their common love and passion for cricket. Mahima would get up early in the morning prior to the toss to watch matches in Australia. They watch matches in the stadium together at every available opportunity.
One night, in a hurry to get home for a game, Mahendra forgot to lock the shop properly, and by next morning it was found looted and ransacked. Hardayal finds out that Mahendra was in a hurry to get home for cricket and slaps him hard. Hardayal calls Mahendra a loser. Mahendra laments that with the right support, he could have been playing for India.
Mahima encourages Mahendra to get back to playing cricket. Benny takes him back in, but Mahendra was no longer the player he once was. It had been 5 years since he played last and could not even last one over in the nets. Benny asks Mahendra to try coaching and offers him a job. Mahendra is impressed when one of Benny's players is selected for India. His outlook changes and he goes to accept the job from Benny, but now he is a big shot and has 50 applicants for the job of assistant coach. Meanwhile, at work, Mahima is being judged by Dr Patwal (Shashie Verma), who does not take her with him for the rounds.
Mahendra spots cricketing talent in his wife when he sees her smashing tennis ball sixes and encourages her to chase her dream of becoming a cricketer. Mahima admits that as a kid she wanted to be a cricketer, but her father pushed her to become a doctor instead. Mahendra offers to coach her himself. Tired of being branded failures at their respective professions Mahendra and Mahima come together with the objective of preparing Mahima to be a professional cricket player.
During this journey, Mahendra's goal to showcase himself as coach than his wife as cricketer. He puts Mahima through a rigorous fitness and cricket training regime. They practice nets 3 times a day. Trilok finds out that Mahima has quit her hospital job and is livid. Mahendra tells Mahima that this is not the time to doubt herself and that she needs to back her talent. After meeting Trilok Mahima is double sure that she wants to pursue cricket in her life. Mahendra works with Mahima on every aspect of her game. She masters fast bowling but struggles with reading spin. Mahendra works with her on her footwork to counter spin.
Mahima gets selected to the Rajasthan State Women's Cricket team. State Coach Mangesh (Sandesh Kulkarni) was against Mahima as she never played district or zonal and believed that she could not survive at state level. But the other selectors were impressed with the 4 sixes she hit, out of the ground. Gyanesh (Naman Arora) is the media relations manager of the Rajasthan board. Mahima is an overnight media sensation and Mahendra feels left out. Mahendra wanted Mahima to tell the media about him, but the questions were all focused on her. Mahima claims that she spoke about Mahendra, but maybe it got edited out by the News Channel. Hardayal leverages Mahima to promote his store, but Mahendra is ignored.
Based on Benny and Sikander's advise, Mahendra starts to market himself as the coach of Mahima. At state level, Mahima's weakness against the short ball is exposed. Mahendra gets an interview by promising Mahima's presence, but Mahima is facing backlash from coach Mangesh and refuses to leave training to attend the interview. Mahendra is thrown out of the news channel office for reneging on his promise. Mahendra takes his frustration out on Mahima and says that she took all the fame and left nothing for him. Mahima feels that Mahendra was using her for his own success.
This internal conflict led to tension between the couple. His mother Geeta neutralizes it by sharing her life's experiences. She prods him by saying it's the happiness within yourself and for others that will make you feel successful. This makes Mahi to realize his mistake and make fresh efforts to help his wife.
Mahendra goes to meet Mahima before her final T20 state level match against Punjab. This is the last chance for Mahima to cement her place in the team. Rajasthan is chasing a big score. Mahima survives an LBW shout and is hit on the helmet by rampaging Punjab bowlers. Mahima retires hurt. Mahendra meets Mahima in the dressing room and says that she is made for cricket as the game makes her happy, which nothing else ever would. He tells her to change her technique slightly. Mahima goes back into the game with 71 runs needed in 40 balls and 3 wickets remaining. Mahima wins the game all on her own by trusting her instincts over instructions from coach Mangesh.
Buoyed by the encouragement she receives from her husband Mahi; a practicing doctor eventually gives up her career as a doctor and takes a strike on her cricketing journey. Mahima is selected for India. Mahendra starts a cricket academy.
