The 2025 Grammy nominations were announced Friday, and with a whopping 94 categories in the show, The Hollywood Reporter is breaking down what you need to know about — including the snubs, the surprises and Beyoncé continuing to make history.

The Snubs

Ariana Grande scored three nominations but was shut out of the top three awards as well as best pop solo performance. Post Malone missed out on album of the year, and though he’s nominated for record and song of the year, it’s for his guest appearance on Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight,” not for his own No. 1 hit, “I Need Some Help” with Morgan Wallen.

And speaking of Swift — she scored six nominations but how isn’t her groundbreaking concert movie, The Eras Tour, in competition for best music film? And “Fortnight” didn’t make the cut for best pop duo/group performance — instead Swift is nominated there for her...

Beyoncé continues to make history with her acclaimed 2024 album, Cowboy Carter, the sweeping odyssey through country music that has now accrued 11 nominations at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

Despite the fact that Beyoncé was entirely shut out at the 2024 CMA Awards, failing to land even one nomination, she was named in categories across genres at the 2025 Grammys Awards, which are scheduled to be celebrated on February 2nd. In addition to the prestigious Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year categories, songs from Cowboy Carter landed in country, pop, Americana, and melodic rap categories. Beyoncé continues her reign as the queen of the Grammys: She leads the 2025 awards with 11 nominations, even sweeping all four country categories with her historic Cowboy Carter album.

Beyoncé is up for album of the year and best country album, while her No. 1 country hit “Texas Hold ‘Em” is nominated for song of the year, record of the year and best country song. Her other nominations include best country solo performance for “16 Carriages,” best country/duo performance “II Most Wanted” with Miley Cyrus and best Americana performance for “Ya Ya.”

With 99 career nominations, she now breaks her tie with hubby Jay-Z, who now has 89 nods including one for album of the year as a co-writer of several Cowboy Carter songs. Beyoncé is the most decorated artist in Grammy history, with 32 wins, and could finally win her first album of the year trophy next year.

She picked up 10 bids in 2010, and she was up for nine awards in 2017, 2021, and 2023. Altogether she’s tied with her husband Jay-Z for the most Grammy nominations ever (88). That’s a tie she’s sure to break this year with her genre-bending “Cowboy Carter” album, which could get the trailblazing artist up to 12 nominations. If she secures all of them, she’ll tie Michael Jackson (1984) and Babyface (1997) for the most bids in a single year, and bring her all-time tally to an even 100 noms. Here are her submissions:
