The 2025 Grammy nominations were announced Friday, and with a whopping 94 categories in the show, The Hollywood Reporter is breaking down what you need to know about — including the snubs, the surprises and Beyoncé continuing to make history.
The Snubs
Ariana Grande scored three nominations but was shut out of the top three awards as well as best pop solo performance. Post Malone missed out on album of the year, and though he’s nominated for record and song of the year, it’s for his guest appearance on Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight,” not for his own No. 1 hit, “I Need Some Help” with Morgan Wallen.
And speaking of Swift — she scored six nominations but how isn’t her groundbreaking concert movie, The Eras Tour, in competition for best music film? And “Fortnight” didn’t make the cut for best pop duo/group performance — instead Swift is nominated there for her...

Breaking Bad has always been about a man suffering from the world’s worst midlife crisis and deciding to break bad after being handed too many lemons in life. For Vince Gilligan, his own pensive experiences shaped the show’s core idea around which he then developed a cult-classic sleeper hit.
Years after its release on AMC, the whacky series became a pop culture phenomenon almost overnight when Netflix dragged it off the shelves and onto the streaming platform, giving it a second life. The fanfare around the series escalated to an all-time high and Breaking Bad became one of the biggest hits Netflix never made.

Vince Gilligan later admitted that his creation, although completely original in its conception, is not the first of its kind. And even though that statement might sound contradictory, Gilligan cited a 1952 Akira Kurosawa film as a reference that explains it all.

When Beyonce is eligible at the Grammys, you can typically expect her to be one of the most nominated artists of the year. She picked up 10 bids in 2010, and she was up for nine awards in 2017, 2021, and 2023. Altogether she’s tied with her husband Jay-Z for the most Grammy nominations ever (88). That’s a tie she’s sure to break this year with her genre-bending “Cowboy Carter” album, which could get the trailblazing artist up to 12 nominations. If she secures all of them, she’ll tie Michael Jackson (1984) and Babyface (1997) for the most bids in a single year, and bring her all-time tally to an even 100 noms. Here are her submissions:

What does one naturally associate with that most enduring and traditional of genres, the stalwart of American cinema that is the Western? For many, it is the violent exuberance of the European visionaries behind the so-called ‘Spaghetti’ Western, which survived to this day in the films of Quentin Tarantino. For the puritans of this world, the measured craft and sometimes questionable social propaganda of the likes of John Ford comes to mind.
