Yaara (Zee5)
Starring Vidyut Jammwal as Phagun, Shruti Haasan as Sukanya, Amit Sadh as Mitwa, Vijay Varma as Rizwan, Kenny Basumatary as Bahadur, Sanjay Mishra as Chaman
Directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia
Apart from some actors whom we trust to deliver on demand, there is nothing in Yaara to invest more than two hours of our time, in pursuit of some obscure political ideology where Naxals are the victims and the police are constantly brutal.
The film has graphic gruesome sequences of police torture. But nothing to compare with what we go throught sitting through a film that thinks dark is the colour that denotes the optimum depth.Little do they know. When all you can see is crime as a way out from oppression and joblessness for the young, then the social order needs a shake-up.This film doesn’t have the inner conviction to be a wake-up call for...

Warner Bros., Azure Entertainment and Ka Productions will co-produce a Hindi-language remake of Nancy Meyers’ 2015 hit “The Intern.” Iconic Indian actors Deepika Padukone (“Chhapaak”) and Rishi Kapoor (“The Body”) will play the roles enacted by Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro respectively in the original.
A director for the still untitled adaptation will be announced shortly. The film is expected to release in 2021.
“ ‘The Intern’ is a very relevant film for the present-day Indian workplace milieu and it showcases human relationships beautifully,” said Kapoor.
Padukone, who launched Ka Productions with acclaimed acid-attack survivor tale “Chhapaak,” said: “I have been looking for a light, breezy comedy-drama and this story fits in seamlessly.”
“The Intern” is part of an ongoing agreement between Warner and Azure to identify, develop, produce and distribute Warner titles for Indian audiences. Another upcoming collaboration under the deal is an Indian version of Hong Kong’s “Infernal Affairs...

Mediawan has acquired a majority stake in Radar Films, the French production company behind “Belle and Sebastian,” one of France’s most successful family movie franchises.
Headed by Clement Miserez and Matthieu Warter, Radar Films has been producing French and English-language films, teaming up with France’s top studios, including Gaumont and Snd. Besides “Belle et Sebastien” which traveled to dozens of territories, Radar Films also produced “The Secret” with Jessica Biel, and “The Love Punch” with Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson.
With Mediawan as its new owner, Radar Films will aim at ramping up its English-language production input, said Miserez. The producer said the banner will also start making ambitious TV series for French and international audiences.
“The media industry is going through turbulent times, especially in France with the upcoming audiovisuel reform, so forging an alliance with Mediawan is a great opportunity for an independent production company like Radar Films,...

Veteran actor Jean Reno has been tapped to star in “Rogue City,” a thriller that sees director Olivier Marchal re-team with French studio Gaumont.
Budgeted at $13 million, the film is set in Marseille and follows an anti-gang cop (Reno) with unorthodox methods who investigates a shooting at a local nightclub along with his longtime rival.
Lannick Gautry, Stanislas Merhar and David Belle complete the cast. Alain Figlarz, who has previously worked on “Taken 3,” “The Bourne Identity” and “The Transporter,” will be handling the action scenes and stunts.
The movie is set to start shooting on location in the south of France in September. Gaumont will kick off pre-sales for “Rogue City” at Cannes with a fully story-boarded script, and expects to release “Rogue City” in France during the second quarter of 2020.

Liam Neeson and "Safe House" director Daniel Espinosa are both attached to "Gang Story," a remake of Olivier Marchal's French film "Les Lyonnais" at Thunder Road, Italia Films and Fundamental Films.
The story follows two childhood friends and notorious armed robbers in the early 1970s which ended with a spectacular arrest in 1974.
Cut to today, one of them has found peace by retiring from the "business". But then the other, who has disowned nothing of his past, comes back into the picture.
"Daredevil" reboot scribe David Scarpa is penning the script. No word if this or Espinosa's "Child 44" starring Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman will shoot first.

No, Liam Neeson isn't done kicking asses just yet. Later this year we'll see him take to the skies in the thriller Non-Stop, and now he's lined up another action thriller. Deadline has word that the production banner Thunder Road has just set up a deal with Italia Films and the China outfit Fundamental Films to remake of the French film Les Lyonnais, which will now be called Gang Story, with Safe House director Daniel Espinosa attached to helm and Neeson attached to star in the film from David Scarpa, who's writing the reboot of Daredevil at Fox. It's a much better option then Taken 3: Taken Not Stirred, right? Here's the subtitled trailer for the original film Les Lyonnais from director Olivier Marchal: The story follows Edmond "Mormon" Vidal who was part of a crime duo with his friend Serge Suttel that became the most notorious armed robbers of the early 1970s.

Penelope Ann Miller, The Artist As mentioned in my previous post, French president Nicolas Sarkozy has named Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company (TWC), a recipient of the 2012 Légion d'Honneur, or Legion of Honor. The honor is "in recognition of Weinstein’s contributions to cinema and his decades of work producing some of the most highly regarded films of our time," according to a TWC press release. Weinstein will be inducted with the rank of Chevalier. Although Sarkozy himself nominated Weinstein back in late July 2011, the nomination was made public only today, five days after the Weinstein Company-distributed The Artist, a French production directed by Michel Hazanavicius, won five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor (Jean Dujardin). As per the TWC press release, Weinstein had requested that the honor be kept private until now "to avoid any conflict of interest" with his company's Academy Award campaign for The Artist.
