One is a swords-and-sandals drama set amid the dust of the Colosseum, and the other's an animated Disney movie about a Polynesian-influenced wayfinder who's most at home on water.

The project was assembled in a mad scramble after that, with Godzilla and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards ending up at the helm. This new Jurassic World movie won’t be featuring any returning lead characters from the previous Jurassic Park / Jurassic World movies, so describing it as a “Rebirth” could be accurate.

The announcement was made this morning by the festival. In a statement, Berlinale director Tricia Tuttle described Haynes as a “dazzlingly gifted writer and director.”

“His body of work is at once stylistically versatile but also unmistakably his,” Tuttle said. “Ever since his debut feature Poison won the Teddy Award in 1991, the Berlinale has followed and loved his filmmaking, and we are overjoyed to have him join the festival as the President of the International Jury for our 75th edition.”

One of the pioneering voices of 90’s American cinema independent cinema, Haynes made his feature with Poison, an experimental sci-fi flick starring Edith Meeks, Larry Maxwell, Susan Gayle Norman, Scott Renderer, and James Lyons. The film won the queer film prize at the Berlinale, in 1991, and won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

Lady Gaga is set to make an appearance in “Wednesday” Season 2, Variety has confirmed with sources.

The exact nature of Gaga’s role is being kept under wraps, but sources say it will be a cameo during the megahit Netflix show’s second season, which is currently filming in Ireland. Sources say that the production team had tried to get Gaga on the show for a larger role in Season 2, but that ultimately did not work out.

Reps for Netflix did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment. Reps for Gaga declined to comment.

This will mark the latest acting role for Gaga, who is best known for her groundbreaking music career. Most recently, she starred in “Joker: Folie à Deux” opposite Joaquin Phoenix. Glen Powell denies he will take over the Mission: Impossible franchise and replace Tom Cruise.

The Twisters actor is debunking a report that stated his Top Gun: Maverick co-star wanted Powell to replace him in the film series after Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which is slated to premiere on May 23, 2025.

“My mom would never let me do that,” Powell told Pat McAfee after the ESPN host called him during his live show.

Powell added, “That’s a death trap,” referring to the stunts the role demands.

McAfee read the news about Powell during his live broadcast and called the actor up to congratulate him. Powell was seemingly in the middle of filming his new movie, The Running Man, and could not appear on camera because he was in full costume. He co-stars with Josh Brolin and Lee Pace in the film.

The title for Tom Cruise’s eighth “Mission: Impossible” movie has finally been revealed, along with the first trailer.

“The Final Reckoning” is now the official title for “Mission: Impossible 8,” which was originally slated to be the “Part Two” to 2023’s “Dead Reckoning.” It’s scheduled to be released on May 23, 2025. The film originally was set for 2022, but was delayed multiple times by the pandemic and SAG-AFTRA actors strike.

Cruise revealed the title and a poster Monday morning, along with the caption “Every choice has led to this.”

In the action-packed trailer, Cruise scuba dives and explores a wrecked submarine, flies and falls out of a biplane and does a lot of running. Angela Bassett is also revealed to be back as CIA Director Erika Sloane, after she first appeared in “Mission: Impossible – Fallout.”

Ayrton Senna will be brought to the screen in Netflix’s miniseries Senna, played by Gabriel Leone. The actor earlier played the role of racing driver Alfonso de Portago in Michael Mann’s Ferrari. The film follows the life of Senna from the beginning of his career to the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
