Tucked away in the mountainous backroads of rural Washington lies the sleepy town of Jericho Ridge. At the local police station, Deputy Tabby Temple is gearing up for her overnight shift despite a busted ankle slowing her down. As the senior officer left on duty, Tabby had to juggle responding to calls, watching the front desk, and keeping an eye on the intoxicated offender locked away in the holding cell. Little does she know that the long night ahead will test her limits in ways she never expected.

When Tabby’s colleagues start disappearing while out on patrol, things take a dangerous turn. A suspicious repairman at the station may not be who he claims, and soon Tabby finds herself cut off and under siege, right where she thought she was safest. Outnumbered and injured, she’s the last line of defense between the town and whatever threat is closing in.

Unfortunately for her, there’s something inside the station that some very bad people want to get their hands on, and she’s in the way. Survival thriller Jericho Ridge is opening in UK cinemas on Thursday, and it’s going to deliver some serious action.

In March, when it screened at the Glasgow Film Festival, I met up with director Will Gilbey and star Chris Reilly to discuss it, but we all knew from the start that it would be a challenging interview. Some films tell you what they’re going to be before they’ve even begun. With titles in a plump, mustard-coloured psychedelic font, with squared shots of a desolate stretch of road and a lonely sheriff’s station, Jericho Ridge immediately captures the atmosphere of a gritty Seventies thriller, promising something edgy and uncomfortable that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Unlike most works with such pretensions, it succeeds.

This is an exercise in economic filmmaking. Very little of it takes place outside the central location, and for much of the running time there’s only one character onscreen. In almost every scene, Deputy Tabby Temple (Nikki Amuka-Bird) is an awesome presence, holding the film together at the same time as she holds the fort. This year’s Glasgow Film Festival plays host yet again to another UK premiere, this time Will Gilbey’s Jericho Ridge.

It is a tense thriller starring Nikki Amuka-Bird as a deputy in a local police department under siege from attackers fighting for her life. The support cast includes Chris Reilly as well as Solly McLeod in this movie that has shades of Assault on Precinct 13.

We sit down with director, Will Gilbey, and star Chris Reilly to talk about moving production to Kosovo and more!

‘The King’s Speech’ exec producer Mark Foligno produced ‘Kindling’.

UK-based Carnaby Sales and Distribution has acquired international rights to Connor O’Hara’s debut feature Kindling, which it will debut at Cannes next week.

Kindling is produced by Mark Foligno, who was an executive producer on The King’s Speech, and Jamie Gamache; for UK companies Haymarket Films, Lowkey Films and Hyprr Films.

The UK film tells the story of a young man with testicular cancer who decides to turn his final summer into a celebration of life, love and friendship. The film is based on O’Hara’s proof-of-concept short Infinite starring George MacKay.

Nikki Amuka-Bird (“The Outfit”) will play the lead in Will Gilbey’s “Jericho Ridge.”

BAFTA award-winner Gilbey (“A Lonely Place to Die”) also wrote the screenplay for the feature, which is billed as a survival thriller.
