Samuel L. Jackson is undoubtedly one of the finest actors of his generation. Part of several huge franchises like the MCU, Jurassic Park, Star Trek, and more, with a career spanning over five decades, he is truly the most versatile and iconic star who has left an indelible mark on the industry. Yet, what is missing from his illustrious career is an Oscar.

Despite his vast filmography and immense talent, it is shocking that he has only received but one Academy Award nomination. Reflecting on the harsh reality of the industry and his career, Jackson once noted that his best chance at an Oscar may have already passed him by after one film.

Since the academy expanded the Best Picture category at the Oscars in 2010, Best Original Screenplay has gone to writers of a wide-range of genres: dramas; comedies (“Midnight in Paris”); biopics; true-life stories (“Spotlight”); memoirs (“Belfast”); period pictures (“Django Unchained”); war movies (“The Hurt Locker”); sci-fi (“Her”), thrillers horror (“Get Out”) and fantasies (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) . (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Original Screenplay.)
Of this year’s top 10 contenders for Best Original Screenplay, nine were written, at least in part, by the directors. The exception is “Challengers,” which Justin Kuritzkes wrote for director Luca Guadagnino. He also adapted the William S. Burroughs novel “Queer” for this busy helmer and he could well contend over in Best Adapted Screenplay for that.
“Challengers” is, at its heart, a romance. Love, albeit short-lived, is also the subject of the frontrunner in this race, Sean Baker‘s “Anora.

The new Todd Phillips film is about a pair of Jokers and this week’s film quiz focuses on other movie duos.
They say it takes two to tango, but no one ever says it takes two to Tango And Cash. Why would they? Stupid thing to say. Anyway, October’s first big release Joker: Folie à Deux sees Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker joined by Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn for an all-singing, all-dancing sequel – just don’t call it a musical! And as Warner Bros also announced the animated Robin movie Dynamic Duo earlier this week, we’re quizzing for two.
As always, there are three rounds and 30 questions in total. Once you’ve completed today’s film quiz, you’ll find a link to a separate post with the correct answers at the bottom of this post. This is just for fun, but please let us know how...

Writer and director Quentin Tarantino is a well-known true-blue cinephile, a deeply devoted fan of films from a variety of genres and eras. He's a fan of everything from sleazy grindhouse exploitation films to classic westerns like the films of Howard Hawks, and he wears his influences loudly and proudly in his own films. So when asked about his favorite films of all time, he has different answers depending on how he feels. There is one movie that he claims to always include in his favorites, however, and he's been pretty effusive about his love for it on more than one occasion.
In an interview with The Talks, Tarantino shared his favorite three films (at that particular moment) and explained that even though two of his top three might shuffle around, he will always feel the need to share his love for the Sergio Leone spaghetti western "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

Samuel L. Jackson has revealed 'Pulp Fiction' nearly had a much more violent ending.Quentin Tarantino's 1994 movie concludes after gangster Jules (Jackson) manages to convince Pumpkin (Tim Roth) and Honey Bunny (Amanda Plummer) to peacefully end their diner robbery by reciting the fictionalised Bible passage Ezekiel 25:17 at them, but the 75-year-old actor has now shared the flick almost ended with a more grizzly sequence. During a video uploaded to GQ's YouTube channel where Jackson reflected on his Hollywood career, he said: "In 'Pulp Fiction' - in the original script - in the diner - when Tim first comes over and he asks about the briefcase, he opens it up. And when he opens it, I shoot Honey Bunny off the bar. And I shoot his a** and kill him. "They do a cut and I open my eyes, and it's what I would've done before I got...

From One Piece to Bleach, most anime are jumping on the bandwagon of live-action adaptations. Kentaro Miura wished for his series’ live-action adaptation. However, with his untimely and sudden death, this remained unfulfilled. The mangaka pictured Guillermo Del Toro as the perfect director to recreate Berserk.

However, there has been no confirmation of a live-action movie so far. While Toro hasn’t made an official statement, there might be an alternative. Although it may not live up to Miura’s wish, Quentin Tarantino could direct the movie. Furthermore, the acclaimed director would notch up the adaptation.
Quentin Tarantino would bring out the explicit and dark nature of Berserk through his direction.

For depicting so many situations and emotions without colors or motion, manga as a medium of storytelling is exceptional. The way mangaka craft their compelling stories, a reader can’t help but turn the page to see what’s up next. Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto is no different.
The legacy of Naruto speaks volumes about how Kishimoto hooked millions to his creation with his exceptional skills as an artist and a storyteller. Every creator has their favorite works of fiction that they draw inspiration from. Besides manga like Dragon Ball and Akira, Kishimoto drew inspiration from movies.

While fans greatly appreciate Tom Cruise’s performance and stunts in the Mission: Impossible and Top Gun franchises, his one role often goes underappreciated. Cruise turned into a cold-blooded hitman in Michael Mann’s 2004 thriller film, Collateral. Mann was impressed with how Cruise perfectly fit the sociopathy of the film’s villain Vincent.

Quentin Tarantino may be one of the finest filmmakers in the world, but he has built up quite the reputation over the years as a contentious man. He's nursed grudges against actors, executives, and film critics; he even slapped producer Don Murphy during a run-in at a West Hollywood restaurant. That said, I know lots of people who've worked with Tarantino, and every single one would happily work with him again. He can be intense and exacting to an exhausting degree, but at the end of the day he loves making movies and, according to those I know who've collaborated with him, he wants everyone on his sets to love the experience as much as he does.
I do, however, think he had a brat period, and I think it switched on and off between his Cannes coronation in 1994 with "Pulp Fiction" and the lead-up to the making of "Kill Bill.

Review: If there’s one thing I’ve always appreciated about Peter Dinklage it’s that he often avoids roles that highlight his dwarfism. He’s such a presence that he can take a role intended for a larger actor and make it totally believable. His desire to not be put into a box is quite commendable and it shines through in his work. He’s always putting his best foot forward, and creating interesting characters, which is why I was immediately interested in his new Western, The Thicket. Add in an eclectic group of side characters and you’ve got the makings of one of the better Westerns of the year.

Do you ever wonder how a film can turn its actors into overnight household names, almost like they won the fame lottery? Well, let us take you back to the iconic year 1997 when Leonardo DiCaprio starred in James Cameron’s Titanic opposite Kate Winslet.
Alongside DiCaprio and Winslet, the film featured a mesmerizing array of talent, including Bill Paxton and Billy Zane. Not to mention, the film waltzed away with 11 Oscars, including prestigious accolades like Best Picture & Best Director.

Although DiCaprio missed out on an Oscar nod for his portrayal of Jack Dawson, he did nab a Golden Globe nomination. So, what’s the catch? Director Steven Spielberg once expressed his regret, feeling like he inadvertently turned the Romeo + Juliet star into a “prisoner” of his own fame.

Quentin Tarantino is one of the best directors of his generation, who continues to set new standards for filmmaking even today. The filmmaker directed the 2007 action-slasher film Death Proof, which was first released as a part of the double feature, Grindhouse. Despite being one of Tarantino’s more obscure movies, it still did one thing right that the MCU can only dream of.

Quentin Tarantino isn’t the biggest fan of The Beatles’ music, but he loves one of their movies. The film in question is very different from his own. Here’s a look at one of Tarantino’s most surprising opinions.
Quentin Tarantino fell in love with a Beatles movie in the 1990s
In Pulp Fiction, Uma Thurman’s character said that there are two types of people in the world Elvis people and Beatles people. She opines that Elvis people can like The Beatles and Beatles people can like Elvis but nobody can like both equally. She intuits that John Travolta’s character is an Elvis man.
One might assume this dialog is just an interesting bit of character-building rather than a heartfelt observation. However, Tarantino believes what he wrote. During a 2021 interview with W, Tarantino named his favorite Hollywood movies from the late 1960s.

Kerry Washington and Pilar Savone are giants of their respective fields. Washington an A-list actress whose 24-year résumé comes with a Primetime Emmy Award and five NAACP Image Awards, while Savone is a Best Picture Academy Award-nominated producer who was trained up with Quentin Tarantino.
As destiny would have it, that’s where their worlds collided: on the set of the filmmaker’s highest-grossing film to date, “Django Unchained.” There, Washington and Savone connected through their love of storytelling.
“We had the same sensibility and kind of wanted to tell the same kind of stories,” Savone told TheWrap in a joint Zoom call with Washington.
“We knew we had the desire to work together in some capacity at some point down the road,” Washington added. “It was really exciting when the opportunity arose, when I was like, ‘I need somebody to help me steer this ship and be my partner.

"Django Unchained" is a surprisingly important movie in Quentin Tarantino's filmography. It was his first Western, it marked his first collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio, and it earned Christoph Waltz his second Oscar in a row while working with the director following his win for "Inglourious Basterds." The film arguably boasts one of the more impressive ensemble casts that Tarantino's ever assembled, and that's truly saying something. As it turns out, though, the cast could have been even more impressive -- as Kurt Russell was supposed to be in it before dropping out late in the game.
By that point, Russell had already worked with Tarantino on his half of the double feature "Grindhouse," resulting in 2007's "Death Proof." They enjoyed the collaboration and intended to work together again on "Django." Unfortunately, Russell and Sacha Baron Cohen ("Borat") dropped out in May of 2012. Quentin Tarantino has “no desire” to watch ‘Toy Story 4’.The acclaimed director thought the previous three entries into Pixar’s animated series were excellent - but Tarantino is now “done” with the franchise and so won’t watch the fourth or upcoming fifth movies in the series.During an appearance on the ‘Club Random with Bill Maher’ podcast, Tarantino said: “I don’t watch all the animated movies and stuff, but I’m a big fan of the ‘Toy Story’ trilogy."Tarantino loved the third movie in the money-spinning franchise, but he's insisted that the series shouldn't continue. He shared: “The third one is just magnificent.“It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. And if you’ve seen the other two, it’s just devastating. But the thing is, then three years later or something they did a fourth, and I have no desire to see it.

Quentin Tarantino’s films have a special place for Brad Pitt, given that a slew of these films have served as high points for the actor’s career. Be it Once Upon A Time in Hollywood or Inglorious Basterds, even the highlight of these films has been Brad Pitt’s performances.

However, Tarantino seems to have taken a while to convince Pitt to take up the role of Aldo Raine, the Nazi killing, American Lieutenant in Inglorious Basterds. It allegedly took the Kill Bill director to go through five bottles of wine to finally convince the Mr. and Mrs. Smith alum to join the cast of his revisionist World War II film.

If one is looking for a real-life depiction of the human experience, one should look no further than Quentin Tarantino. From Pulp Fiction to Django Unchained, Inglorious Bastards, and even Kill Bill, the director showcases an odd mix between raw, realistic characters, and films that are love letters to Hollywood. Being the perfect balance of the two, he certainly knows a thing or two about striking feelings from his audience.

Being the first in his line of masterpieces, the film was the industry’s first introduction to the beautiful worlds that Tarantino creates and the first to shock its audience in every way possible.
While a majority of the conversation around the film was about its story, there was one specific scene that ended up being a little too gory for some viewers.

Veteran producer Stacey Sher still has love for critically-maligned “Poolman” directed by Chris Pine.
“It’s a gorgeous film. Chris made the movie he set out to make. He believed in it and I believed in Chris. I still do. He’s a really gifted filmmaker.”
Following its Toronto premiere, Pine’s film became one of the worst-reviewed titles last year, with Variety’s Owen Gleiberman calling it “not only the worst film I saw during the fall festival season but would likely be one of the worst films in any year it came out.”
But Sher believes you have to always support your director.
“Yes – if you believe in that person. Quentin Tarantino may have said that to me a long time ago: ‘The reviews of your movies aren’t written the weekend they come out. They are written 10, 20, 30 years after they come out. It’s all about how they endure.

Few filmmakers can claim to have helped shape an entire era of cinema, but the boom in 1990s indie cinema is impossible to imagine without producer Stacey Sher.
“If you say, U.S. independent cinema of the ’90s, whatever film touched your feelings, your emotions and your memory, most probably, it has Stacey involved in it,” says Locarno film festival artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro, on the reason Locarno is honoring Sher with its 2024 Premio Raimondo Rezzonico, or best independent producer, award.
After a six-year mentorship under legendary producers Deborah Hill and Linda Obst, making such films as Chris Columbus’ debut Adventures in Babysitting and Terry Gilliam’s The Fisher King, Sher joined the Danny DeVito and Michael Shamberg’s newly-founded indie shingle Jersey Films, soon becoming a partner. At Jersey, she was instrumental in championing a new generation of directors — Quentin Tarantino, Steven Soderbergh, Andrew Niccol, Ben Stiller — whose films would define a decade.

Have you ever witnessed the roller coaster journey of a big-screen legend, marked by an illustrious rise? Look no further than the enchanting odyssey of Kevin Costner. From dancing with wolves at the zenith of his career to weathering the storm of films that missed the mark, the actor’s narrative is anything but dull.
Certainly, not every actor can claim to have been the king of the box office hill—a title Costner wore like a crown during the early ‘90s. That being said, the actor, 69, seized the reins of success with the hit series Yellowstone. This wasn’t just a stroke of luck; it was a testament to his enduring clout, paving the way for him to helm his four-part magnum opus, Horizon: An American Saga.

Apart from being filled with references to popular culture and extended dialogues, another notable ingredient that makes Quentin Tarantinon’s work stand out is his use of stylized violence. But over the years, the acclaimed filmmaker has landed in several controversies following his use of excessive violence and the use of the N-word in his films.
Although the Pulp Fiction director addressed the above subjects on many occasions throughout his career, the director lost his cool after being bombarded with the same question during an interview.

It’s hidden behind a fortress of foliage, so it’s hard to say what exactly it looks like. The other houses in this verdant patch of Brentwood, about a mile north of Sunset, vary in architectural styles from terra-cotta-topped Mediterranean casas to multimillion-dollar midcentury clapboards. But try to zero in on this gated, 35,000-square-foot, four-bedroom home by using Google Maps Street View, and all you’ll see is a blurry splotch.
