When I first saw this series about ten years ago it left a very big impression. It wasn't like any other series I had seen before (and it still remains that way). I watched it then because I like the main actors. Now I wanted to revisit the series and watched it again. The big impression has gone. Mainly because I feel that it could've been so much more. It feels like the series skips parts in some parts and drags on in other parts. The pace could've been better distributed over the series. I was also surprised by how much I dislike the childish persona of Xiao Feng. Yes, I know she went through a lot and that those were traumatic experiences but she behaves like a small child throwing a tantrum most of the time when she doesn't agree with something.
I get what the makers wanted to do with this series (I think), but the execution could've been less subtle, less abstract, less rushed. Since the actors are all popular actors for teens and young adults I feel this series is perhaps too far out there for that demographic.
The series doesn't have a real conclusion, or rather it offers several. The viewer can decide what the ending meant. The music video for Anson Hu's "Waiting for you" also offers another possible ending. Personally it left me unsatisfied. I would rather have had one of those endings instead of several.
If you love sunshiny, bright, happy series, this series isn't for you. While it has had it's happy moments the overall tone of this series is quite dark and depressing. I don't regret watching it again, but I won't be watching it a third time. Maybe I'm getting older which spoils the magic/feel of this series.
