“For more than half of this country’s life, women didn’t have a voice. Yet, we raised children. We held our families together. We supported men as they made the decisions. But tomorrow, women will be a part of making this decision,” Gaga said from behind her piano.
She continued, “Today I am holding in my heart all the tough, tenacious women who made me who I am. I cast my vote for someone who will be a president for all Americans. And now, Pennsylvania,...

Lady Gaga fans who were wondering what song she would pull out for Kamala Harris’ final rally in Philadelphia Monday night got a song arguably even more glorious than “Edge of Glory” — Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America” — to preface the candidate’s speech. But she didn’t let down those who wanted to hear her own inspirational anthem, returning after Harris’ climactic speech to indeed belt out “Edge of Glory” as the clock struck 12 and election day officially arrived.
“For more than half of this country’s life, women didn’t have a voice,” Gaga said in introducing “God Bless America” while sitting at the piano. Updated, with Trump remarks: Kamala Harris predicted victory in Tuesday’s presidential election, but told a celebrity-filled, final 2024 campaign rally in Philadelphia this evening that “this could be one of the closest races in history.”
“Every single vote matters,” Harris said, reflecting the sense of cautious optimism of her campaign.
Speaking from the Rocky steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Harris noted that the location was a “tribute to those who start as the underdog and climb to victory.”

On a Thursday two years ago today, at exactly 10:10 in the morning, the Supreme Court issued its decision in Dobbs, the landmark case overruling Roe v. Wade and ending the federal right to abortion. The decision was not necessarily a surprise — almost two months earlier, a leaked draft of the ruling was published by Politico — so much as a confirmation of abortion rights supporters’ worst fears.
The real surprise, as New York Times reporters Elizabeth Dias and Lisa Lerer write in their new book The Fall of Roe, was the date of its release.

The Boys: Firecracker Took A Dig at Starlight's Buried Past and Struck Gold - Main Image
Is Starlight good or bad in The Boys? Firecracker just revealed a dark secret that Annie January had almost forgotten all these years, and it threatens to end the supe's career as she knows it.
As the rivalry is both personal and professional, fans are being led to believe Starlight might not be the good supe she made herself out to be.
Starlight's Past with Firecracker Came Back to Haunt Her
While being confronted by Starlight on joining The Seven, Firecracker spilled more tea than we were prepared: apparently, she and Annie knew each other as teens, where they both competed in the same beauty pageants.
Back then, the 13-year-old Firecracker was known as Sparkler and won with a God Bless America medley routine, much to Starlight's chagrin. In retaliation, we're told, Annie...

In the summer of 1968, months after the releases of We’re Only in It for the Money and Lumpy Gravy and a few months ahead of the release of Cruising with Ruben & the Jets, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention found time for a five-hour concert on the Sunset Strip. A new box set, Whisky a Go Go, 1968 — due out June 21 — chronicles the unique evening, which the band recorded for release but, in Zappa’s signature fashion, divvied up for spare parts on other recordings. Fans of 1980s pop music rejoice! Cher and Cyndi Lauper have blessed us with a duet! During an interview, the “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer discussed how the song came to be. Lauper also revealed what she thought of Cher back in the day.
Cyndi Lauper was the 1st singer Cher called to work on her Christmas album
During a 2023 interview with Paper, Cher discussed her debut Christmas album, Christmas. “All of a sudden, the Christmas album came up again,” she said. “I mean, it’d been coming up my whole life and I’d always been going, ‘Yeah, no,’ and somehow this was different. When I started, I was totally into it. I called Cyndi first and then I called Stevie [Wonder] and then Darlene [Love].”
Two other stars appeared on Christmas: traditional pop revivalist Michael Bublé and rapper Tyga. Cher was surprised she was able to work with both artists.

The 1975 began their Still… At Their Very Best Tour in September and it seems that fans have been enjoying every minute of their shows.
Fans have been treated to exciting performances of their hit songs like “The 1975,” “Be My Mistake” and “Looking For Somebody To Love.” They weren’t the only ones onstage, though, as they also have up-and-coming singer Dora Jar join them as their opener for many of their shows.
At their Madison Square Garden stop, frontman Matty Healy welcomed his father, Tim, up on the stage, where he sang the band’s song “All I Need To Hear.”
The tour follows the 1975’s previous tour, At Their Very Best, which began in November 2022 and ended in August this year. Still…At Their Very Best is set to end in March 2024, making it almost two years of back-to-back concerts.

Bigfoot’s relationship with the horror genre is a strange one.
On its own, the idea of a towering woodland ape is pretty pants-shittingly scary, especially if you happen to be contemplating the legendary cryptid while in the middle of a deep dark forest. However, for some strange reason, that terror too often gets lost when it’s seen through the lens of a movie camera. Maybe it’s the aftermath of films like Harry and the Hendersons essentially turning the beast into an upright and trunkless Mr. Snuffleupagus. Or perhaps it has something to do with the fact that it’s just too easy to make inappropriate jokes centered around its, ahem, big feet. Whatever the reason, the vast majority of cinematic representations of Sasquatch seen in horror just don’t hit the way other monsters do.
Of course, there are exceptions to this rule. One of them is...

Gen. Mark Milley, the retiring chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in a new interview that former President Donald Trump told him not to bring wounded veterans to public events.
The profile piece, The Patriot, published in The Atlantic, offers details about Trump’s reaction to Milley’s 2019 welcome ceremony.
The ceremony took place at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. Miller chose wounded army captain Luis Avila to sing “God Bless America.”
Avila has been on five combat tours and lost a leg to an Ied. He has also suffered heart attacks, strokes and brain damage, as a result of his injuries. Milley wanted to celebrate Avila’s heroism and bravery, as a testament to the sacrifices marked forces make for their country.

Joy Ride Review: Bobcat Goldthwait and Dana Gould Take On The South in Engaging Stand-Up Documentary
Bobcat Goldthwait has made a career of dissecting what makes tragedy funny. It’s an impressive second act for the comedian, who was once known primarily for that voice (you know the one) and that character (Zed) from that comedy franchise (Police Academy). Joy Ride, directed by Goldthwait, who co-stars with Dana Gould, documents the duo as they travel across the American South discussing everything from their strange friendship, their similar upbringings, and the severe hypocrisies of conservatism.
At the top, the comedians acknowledge the serious car accident that stunted the beginning of the documentary. It left both with injuries, Goldthwait even sustaining a concussion for his trouble. But no matter, just another piece of solid material on stage. At a breezy 70 minutes, Goldthwait and Gould make an immensely watchable pair. “I didn’t know you were crazier then me?” Goldthwait says of Gould at one point. “Oh yeah,” Gould confidently responds.

America’s War on Terror began with ill-defined intentions and led to 20 years of brutality that eroded the country’s international goodwill while fostering paranoia, mistrust of public institutions, and xenophobia at home. This is the crux of “America After 9/11,” the latest investigative journalism project from PBS’ Frontline team, and it’s a belief that the two-hour film effectively relays via its facts-first reporting and extensive sourcing.
To call the film timely is both stating the obvious and an understatement; while “America After 9/11” is one of numerous media productions being published this month to coincide with the 20th anniversary of World Trade Center attacks, the film’s release also comes just weeks after the United States’ contentious exit from Afghanistan. As its title implies (and as is to be expected from Frontline), “America After 9/11,” which is directed by longtime political documentarian Michael Kirk, centers on the United States’ political and...

Protesters, mostly maskless, gathered in D.C. from across the country this weekend to show their support for President Trump and express their refusal to accept the 2020 presidential election results. At one point, the crowd chanted “Destroy the GOP!” to express their anger with the party for failing to keep Trump in the White House. The rally was held just one day after the Supreme Court delivered a likely fatal blow to Trump’s hopes of remaining in power.

Meryl Streep’s three Academy Award wins were all for serious dramatic acting roles — as a divorcee engaged in a custody battle in 1979’s “Kramer vs. Kramer,” as a Holocaust survivor in 1982’s “Sophie’s Choice” and as British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in 2011’s “The Iron Lady.”
But her 40-plus years as a big-screen presence has been as much if not more defined by musical moments rather than her serious roles. That would include 1978’s “The Deer Hunter,” the source of her first Oscar nomination in a supporting role as a working-class gal who is torn between two hometown Vietnam vets. The use of a somber rendition of “God Bless America” was a source of controversy at the end of the film. But it made sense that Streep, who made her 1977 Broadway debut performing “Surabaya Johnny” in “Happy End” and who had studied opera at one point at age 12, would...

Terry Bradshaw pulled off two victories on tonight's all-new episode of The Bradshaw Bunch. One, he was able to squeeze into his favorite pair of jeans—although doing so took a lot of work, especially since he'd spent most of quarantine eatings things like barbecue and donuts—just in time to give the famous NASCAR command, "Drivers, start your engines!" at a Texas Motor Speedway race. It was at that same event where Terry scored his second win: his daughter Rachel, who was previously adamant that she would not perform "God Bless America," took the NASCAR stage and belted out the patriotic tune. This was a big deal for the 33-year-old, mostly due to the fact...

One of my most vivid memories of my life as a theater actor and theatergoer was on Sept. 13, 2001. Broadway had reopened after a two-day break from the most terrible day for New York City, and at the end of “The Producers,” the entire cast sang “God Bless America.” It is so moving to remember now, in part because the crisis we are living through today is so different. It’s not just that there was such unity then — it’s also that there was a beginning, a middle and an end to the tragedy. The current crisis New York is living through is a purgatory that is very unfamiliar, one that lingers on with a painful uncertainty. Sept. 11 was unthinkable, but we could walk ourselves through the grief and, crucially, grieve collectively. Nothing before has stopped lives, jobs and the economy like this. And the one thing I keep forcing...

Laverne Cox notched her fourth Emmy nomination this year for her portrayal of Sophia Burset on “Orange Is the New Black.” Her bid in Best Drama Guest Actress is for the episode “God Bless America,” from the Netflix show’s seventh and final season. Cox made history in 2013 as the first openly transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy in any acting category, also earning kudos in 2017 and 2019.
In “God Bless America,” Cox has two scenes as Sophia. In the first scene, Sophia is visiting her parole officer, who also happens to be the same officer as Piper (Taylor Schilling). Sophia humorously shades Piper, who she hasn’t seen since leaving prison, for having the same basic hairstyle as she remembered. She agrees to help Piper for a gala event, as we see in Cox’s second scene. We discover that Sophia now owns a hair salon, achieving her greatest dream.

Laverne Cox continues to collect Emmy nominations for her work on “Orange Is the New Black.” She now has four bids from the Primetime Emmy Awards for her performance, with this year’s being for the final season of the Netflix dramedy. She is also the only representation for “Orange Is the New Black” in its final year, of which Cox is well-aware. “Sophia changed my life and this will be the last Emmy nomination for ‘Orange Is the New Black’ so I don’t take that lightly,” says Cox in an exclusive new interview for Gold Derby. Watch the exclusive interview above.

The Columnist is very much a movie that could have only been made in the last ten years. There have been a few movies based on a similar story in the last few years, and it is a story that I very much enjoy because it generally covers awful people having awful things happen to them. Something I never tire of seeing.
This story follows columnist and author Femke Boot, who every day receives nasty messages, insults and death threats via social media about the (not very controversial) things she writes. And then one day it gets too much and she decides to take revenge on the trolls… I can’t be the only person who reads that basic description and starts...

There’s a moment in Mary Wharton’s “Jimmy Carter Rock & Roll President” that looks downright surreal — at least, in light of the bombs-away culture-war politics that have come to rule our own era. It’s Jan. 20, 1977, the night of Carter’s Inaugural Gala, and introducing the festivities is that favorite son of progressive liberal Democrats, John Wayne. In the audience are John Lennon (in a tux!) and Yoko Ono. The performers include Paul Simon and Aretha Franklin, and when Aretha delivers her a capella rendition of “God Bless America,” it gives you tingles and chills and everything else. The evening has a we’re-all-in-this-together quality that feels positively and creatively…American.
“Jimmy Carter Rock & Roll President” is a documentary of infectious and lively nostalgia that’s about just what its title says: the fact that Jimmy Carter became the first U.S. president to express, in ways both big and small,...

We’ve got a fun video from Vulture for you to check out today that runs through the best scenes in the Jean-Claude Van Damme classic, Street Fighter. The video boasts that the 41 best scenes chronicled in these scenes conclude to any viewer that Street Fighter is the perfect movie. I’m not 100% convinced, but I’m very close, as I absolutely adore Raul Julia, even when he is giving total crazy eyes, and Van Damme’s bulging bicep with an American flag on it is enough to make this girl sing God Bless America. Check it out below, and maybe give Street Fighter a rewatch sometime soon. Enjoy!

James Wan will direct New Line horror movie Malignant before returning to helm Aquaman 2.
James Wan is at an interesting place in his career. While he proved his action movie bonafides several years ago with the stressful production of Furious 7, it was last year that he managed to successfully launch a new superhero franchise with a wild premise and little in the way of a popular shared universe to fall back on. Nevertheless, Aquaman was gonzo, bubblegum fun that grossed about $1.2 billion at the box office. So, in theory, he could do anything he’d want next. Which makes news that he’s returning to horror so intriguing.
Malignant is the official title of Wan's hush-hush horror film, which will star Annabelle Wallis and George Young. The initial announcement of the project revealed that Wan was locked in to direct a...

Has there ever been a rocker more comically perpetually unsatisfied than Gordon Gano? Nearly 40 years have passed since the Violent Femmes debuted their freaky, silly hybrid of folk and rock, and these days they’ve settled comfortably into a style that’s a bit like Bob Dylan meets Monty Python (or sometimes S.J. Frontman Gordon Gano still has a beautifully quivering bleat, and on Hotel Last Resort — the group’s 10th full-length and second since reuniting in 2013 — he flexes it hilariously on songs about how he hates choruses (“Another...

Maddie Hasson was drawn to “Impulse” because she found the protagonist, Henrietta “Henry” Coles, to be “really interesting, especially for a young female character.” Based on the book series by Steven Gould, the YouTube Originals series centers on a teenager who discovers she possesses powers of teleportation following a sexual assault. A version of this story was previously filmed by Doug Liman as the 2007 film “Jumper.” The filmmaker then brought the show to the streaming network and directed the pilot episode.
