The cable channel Cartoon Network and its adult-geared programming block Adult Swim are reportedly taking episodes out of their rerun rotations following the recent plane crashes in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The X account Cn News/Schedules reported on Friday, January 31, that The Amazing World of Gumball’s “The Saint,” Courage The Cowardly Dog’s “Scuba-Scuba Doo,” Family Guy’s “Boy (Dog) Meets Girl (Dog)” and “Yug Ylimaf,” Robot Chicken’s “Happy Russian Deathdog Dolloween 2 U” and The Eric Andre Show’s “Hannibal Quits” will be pulled from the schedule for the next two weeks “due to depicting, or joking about, plane crashes.” ComicBook.com has plot details for each episode: As the site reports, “The Saint,” “Yug Ylimaf,” and “Scuba-Scuba Dog” all depict aviation accidents; “Boy (Dog) Meets Girl (Dog)” contains a 9/11 joke; “Happy Russian Deathdog Dolloween 2 U” features a reference to the plane crash in Donnie Darko...

Cartoon Network fans are starting 2025 on a sour note as several beloved animated series have been removed from Max.
Just last month, it was announced that four popular DC animated series—Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go!, Static Shock, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series—would leave the platform by the end of 2024. True to the announcement, these shows disappeared from Max’s library after December 31. But it didn’t stop there.
As of January 1, more fan-favorites have also been removed, including Ed, Edd n’ Eddy, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, The Looney Tunes Show, and the first seven seasons of Teen Titans Go! While the show’s eighth season remains on Max, fans hoping to revisit earlier episodes will have to look elsewhere, like Hulu, where some seasons are still available.

Cartoon Network fans are starting 2025 with disappointment as several beloved animated series have been removed from Max.
Let’s remember that last month, we learned that Max, the streaming home of countless DC shows and movies, is facing some unexpected changes as four fan-favorite DC animated series were set to leave its library by the start of 2025.
Namely, Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go!, Static Shock, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series are no longer available after December 31. However, it seems that those were not the only projects removed from Max’s library starting January 1.
Among the notable titles now missing are the first seven seasons of Teen Titans Go!, the original Teen Titans, Ed, Edd n’ Eddy, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, The Looney Tunes Show, Static Shock, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series.

Artem Vasilyev, the Russian producer and CEO of Metrafilms and its animation arm Studio Metrafilms, has launched the new label Lazy Sunday, based in Ireland and dedicated to developing and producing both animation and live-action projects for international audiences.
The new outfit will serve as a bridge linking Western Europe with Eastern Europe, Vasilyev hopes, while also connecting with his current base of operations in Moldova.
“I strongly believe that the Eastern European region is extremely rich in world-class talent and exciting stories that are yet to be told,” he said. “Eastern European talent can bring a lot to the international film industry table, and Lazy Sunday is a company that can bridge East and West thanks to our experience, history and where we are today. This is truly an exciting position to be in.”

Many beloved properties of Cartoon Network are about to disappear from Max as Warner Bros. Discovery continues to trim down their streaming library. Congratulations to Nickelodeon for winning the animation rivalry simply by letting us stream SpongeBob SquarePants.
When controversial Wbd CEO David Zaslav assumed control of the WarnerMedia empire and its massive, culturally crucial portfolio of original TV shows and movies in 2022, he set the tone for his tenure by cancelling completed and well-screened films like Coyote vs. Acme just to earn tax write-offs and recoup some of the production costs. Very quickly, cartoon-loving Max subscribers and Warner Bros.-associated artists realized that Zaslav’s intention with the post-merger mega-company was to rein in its sprawling streaming library, cut down on animation and focus on pushing shows that are cheaper and quicker to produce, like numerous spinoffs of 90 Day Fiancé or a Harry Potter-themed baking competition.

The Amazing World of Gumball season 7 has been in production for a few years with little in the way of updates. Considered one of Cartoon Network's best TV shows of the 2010s, The Amazing World of Gumball follows 12-year-old Gumball Watterson, an anthropomorphic blue cat, and his adoptive goldfish brother Darwin. The series features a large ensemble of characters who are notably animated in a variety of different styles. Characters are traditionally animated, stop-motion, CGI, and more throughout the series.
While The Amazing World of Gumball is marketed at children, the series tackles mature themes such as philosophy, politics, marriage, cyberbullying, and the overall human condition. Older audiences can definitely enjoy The Amazing World of Gumball with its secretly raunchy jokes and dark and intelligent humor. The series premiered in May 2011 and lasted for six seasons with two miniseries following: the six-episode Darwin's Yearbook in 2019 and The Gumball Chronicles...

In an unexpected move, several iconic Cartoon Network series have been removed from Max without warning. The streaming service is the home to various animated series but has dropped several modern classics. This sudden removal has impacted a number of beloved animated series, leaving viewers to question the reasoning behind this decision and the future of other well-known programs.
According to Collider, some of the well-known titles that have been removed include Ben 10, Steven Universe, Regular Show, The Amazing World of Gumball, Chowder, and the 2016 Powerpuff Girls. These animated classics had previously been available on Max, where they enjoyed a dedicated following. Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns the network, has provided an official statement or explanation regarding the removal of these series. While such changes can be tied to expiring licensing agreements, there has been no indication of what prompted this particular decision.

Under Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s continued campaign of content erasure, animation fans mourn the destruction of Planet Nielsen.
In case Zaslav’s reputation among the cartoon community wasn’t low enough already, the controversial executive’s regime made a surprising and surreptitious move this week that sparked outrage across numerous online fandoms. Following the latest updates to the Max streaming library, seven Cartoon Network shows have disappeared from the premium streaming service, with Ben 10, Steven Universe, the 2016 Powerpuff Girls revival, Amazing World of Gumball, We Bare Bears, Chowder and Regular Show all pulled from service without so much as a “leaving soon” notice.
Now that the entire entertainment industry is firmly sliding on a downward slope following the peak of streaming, it seems that no TV series — no matter how beloved or endlessly quoted — is safe from the content cuts that have become company-wide policy under Zaslav’s leadership.

While streaming has made it easier to binge our favorite shows and movies all in one place, it also means that titles we’ve loved for years can become inaccessible at a moment’s notice. The corporations that own Netflix, Max, Hulu, and others now have the ability to truncate their catalogs in an attempt to present a leaner library and save costs, often at the expense of series and films that consumers love.
Cartoon Network became the latest victim of this phenomenon recently as fans of the iconic brand can no longer visit the cable channel’s website, which has been a fixture of the web since the late 1990s. The URL cartoonnetwork.com now redirects to Max’s website. It leaves the future of the shows from Cartoon Network in question, especially because there is no clarity on what will remain on Max and what will be lost to faint millennial memories.

Cartoon Network has been scrubbed from the web.
Warner Bros. Discovery this week pulled the entire contents of cartoonnetwork.com offline — redirecting visitors to a landing page on Max, its subscription-streaming service, encouraging fans to sign up to watch their favorite Cartoon Network shows. The shuttering of the site appears to have happened Thursday, Aug. 8.
“Looking for episodes of your favorite Cartoon Network shows? Check out what’s available to stream on Max (subscription required),” a pop-up message says on the new Max landing page. “Sign up for Max, where you can also create a Kids Profile with ratings restrictions and additional privacy protections to keep it fun and kid-friendly! Cable subscribers, continue to enjoy your favorite Cn programming on your TV and connected apps as well!”

After serving the retro animation community proudly for seven years, the classic cartoon streaming service Boomerang will cease to exist at the end of September — and this time, it’s not coming back.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and president David Zaslav seems to have a bit of a love/hate relationship with his company’s immense library of classic works of art. He loves purging old Warner Bros. films from the Max streaming library, and he hates it when subscribers watch anything older than the pilot episode of Milf Manor. In Zaslav’s post-art, pro-”content” business model for Max, the streaming hub for Warner Bros. Discovery’s most culturally significant IP becomes even more bare-bones with each round of cuts, and the original shows and movies produced by Max oftentimes face cancellation after post-production and pre-premiere, leaving solidly screen-tested films like Coyote vs. Acme in a permanent state of inaccessibility to the average subscriber.

Warner Bros. Discovery is shutting down the Boomerang streaming service and moving some of its programming, which includes many classic cartoon series, onto Max.
The kids-and-family move is set for September 30, according to an email to subscribers.
It comes in the same year as a similar strategic shift by Paramount Global, which shuttered Noggin and moved its content onto flagship Paramount+.
Boomerang, which began as a cable network in 2000 featuring a range of animated classics like Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry and Loony Tunes, became a streaming service in 2017. In more recent years, it expanded into original programming.
Subscriber numbers for Boomerang were never divulged. The niche offering is considerably cheaper than Max, but Wbd told subscribers their plans would be converted to the ad-free version of Max at no extra charge. Boomerang is $6 a month, while the ad-free tier of Max is $17.

Some of the best Amazing World of Gumball episodes combine kid-friendly jokes with more mature humor, appealing to both children and parents. The series is considered one of the best Cartoon Network shows of the 2010s, with its dry wit and genuine nature capturing the hearts of viewers. The show's best episodes range from witty and humorous to poignant and heartwarming, proving its versatility and wide appeal.

J.G. Quintel’s new “Regular Show” and Craig McCracken’s “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends” spin-off both feature in a new production slate from Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe.
Unveiled Wednesday at Annecy to an appreciative crowd at Annecy’s MIFA market, which greeted multiple shows with whoops of enthusiasm, the two new announcements join a new “Adventure Time” series, “Side Quests,” as greenlights at the Warner-owned companies.
The new slate also boasts two more “Adventure Time” shows in development, plus an unannounced Scooby-Doo project.
The big question raised by the studio’s Annecy focus is whether the surge in new shows is a temporary anomaly or marks a broader indicator of a more sustained return by Warner Bros. Discovery to fuller-on animation production after the lull of the recent past.
Certainly, news will not come much bigger at this year’s Annecy than “Adventure Time,...

Some shows are big cultural hits and juggernauts, and some quietly go on season after season; maybe not a huge critical giant, but there are enough ardent fans to justify their existence. And that’s probably where Apple TV+’s “Trying,” a heartwarming British comedy television series created by Andy Wolton (“The Amazing World of Gumball”), lands; it has its fans, and it keeps successfully chugging along, though to be fair, it does have its U.K.

After Jim Samples, the Cartoon Network executive who oversaw the greenlighting of such successful cartoons as "Samurai Jack," "Ben 10," "Codename: Kids Next Door," and "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy," left, a new regime at the popular animation-focused cable channel changed tactics. When Stuart Snyder took over in mid-2007, he had a brand new mandate for Cartoon Network — no weird stuff.
Speaking with Buzzfeed, "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack" creator Thurop Van Orman recalled Snyder saying, "'We don't want anything weird or anything where any mom would come out of the kitchen and say, 'What are you watching?'"
Now, this is not to say that Snyder failed at that command, or that his definition of the word "weird" is different than this writer's, but his tenure was filled with shows you could call "weird" and would make a mom say "What are you watching?"

After months of silence surrounding the 2024 Amazing World of Gumball movie, the animated film got an unexpected release update.
The beloved Cartoon Network series has been dormant for several years following the release of six seasons on the cable network along with two miniseries in 2019 and 2020.
That is not to say nothing more is coming from The Amazing World of Gumball. In 2021, Season 7 of the show was announced for the Warner Bros.-owned Max (formerly HBO Max service) along with a movie; however, since then, the studio has remained fairly silent on both projects from the animated franchise.

In addition to producing, Micucci will star and create music for the cartoon, having already recorded a first pass of the theme song.
Tobi Wilson, who serves as Senior Writer for Cartoon Network’s long-running hit The Amazing World of Gumball, is attached as showrunner and co-producer. Also set to produce are Keenspot’s Chris Crosby and Bobby Crosby, as well as David Campiti of Glass House Studios, who will be handling animation production.

As the year winds down, it’s time to look back at Netflix’s biggest hits, and today, we begin by looking into what kids’ TV shows picked up the most points in the Netflix top 10s over the past 12 months.
This list is compiled using FlixPatrol data collected from the daily top 10s on Netflix from over 80 countries around the globe. They assign points and values to each title that gets featured on any day. Their data isn’t perfect as their method doesn’t quite fully capture the complexity of viewership data, such as total watch time, repeat viewings, or demographic details of the audience. Also worth noting is that Netflix changed up its top 10 metrics midway through the year to favor views over pure viewing hours. That said, their data provides a pretty accurate snapshot of what performed best over a long period.

The last time The Amazing World of Gumball aired a proper episode was on June 24, 2019; the Season 6 finale, "Inquisition," ended on a literal cliffhanger. Thankfully, two years later, a movie for the surrealist cartoon series was announced for HBO Max, along with a series continuation.
Unfortunately, due to Discovery's acquisition of Warner Bros, several animated projects were axed, shelved, or sold, with The Amazing World of Gumball movie being one. However, despite the movie being put on the shelf, the development of Season 7 of the cartoon show seemingly continued strong.

Finland-based animation studio Gigglebug Entertainment is launching a new adult-focused label and has already begun developing its first project, Variety can confirm.
Branded In Stitches and led by Gigglebug’s management team, the banner will focus on bold, experimental and offbeat comedy aimed at grown-ups. Contemporary voices as well as artists and designers from Gigglebug’s in-house team will be brought in to pitch adult-oriented concepts and work on projects from the new banner.
The first project from In Stitches, which the company are set to present at Mipcom next month, is titled “Soap.” The 20-episode series is based on an original concept by Gigglebug animator Sasil Leirana and is told from the perspective of a bar of hotel soap called Suds.
“When affairs unravel marriages, a drug deal blows up (literally) or a serial killer repaints the walls red, who is there to clean up the mess? Soap,” reads the synopsis.

Takeaway 1: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem features actual teenage actors voicing the four main characters, highlighting the importance of depicting them as adolescents. Takeaway 2: The movie strikes a more light-hearted and comedic tone, emphasizing the goofy sensibilities of the "Heroes in a Half Shell" at the center of the story. Takeaway 3: The voice cast includes both established actors and relative newcomers, with Seth Rogen voicing Bebop and a star-studded supporting cast featuring names like Jackie Chan and Ice Cube.

The "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" movie arrives in theaters this week. Unlike other iterations of the heroes in a half-shell, the "Mutant Mayhem" part of the title actually delivers in a way that no other "Tmnt" movie has before.
Previous "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movies have mostly focused on Shredder as the primary villain. But the sequel "Secret of the Ooze" introduced mutant baddies Tokka and Rahzar, and the more recent live-action/CGI hybrids produced by Michael Bay brought villains Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady into the fray as well. However, "Mutant Mayhem" features a cavalcade of mutant characters previously only seen in the "Tmnt" animated series and comics, and they're all voiced by some recognizable voices that you might have a hard time placing. That's why we've got a helpful "Tmnt: Mutant Mayhem" character guide, so you have the answer ready when your grandma asks, "Who was the voice of Mondo Gecko?...

Recasting main characters in a show like Rick and Morty can be scary, but these 10 successful voice recasts prove that it can work without disrupting the series. Examples like Gumball Watterson, Aku, and Uncle Iroh show that recasting can be seamless and even make jokes about the character's changing voice. Other shows like Family Guy, The Simpsons, and DuckTales have also successfully recast main characters, revolutionizing them and bringing fresh energy to the series. Rick and Morty may need a new direction like this in season 7.
Rick and Morty season 7 will have to recast its main characters, but these 10 successful voice recasts have proven that the series can live on after this big shake-up. Recasting the titular space-faring duo has been one of the scariest parts of the upcoming season of Rick and Morty, as changing the voice actor behind the main two characters has the potential to seriously disrupt the show.

Skull Island is officially coming to Netflix in the form of an anime series. First appearing in the 1933 stop-motion classic King Kong, the titular giant ape kicked off a massive franchise that has most recently funneled into Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse. The indelible King Kong entered the reboot series in 2017's Kong Skull: Island and unlike in most of Kong's other movies, Kong did not die at the end of that movie, in fact, he never even left Skull Island until the sequel set in the modern era, 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong.
The MonsterVerse is a shared fictional universe with characters created by Toho Co., Ltd. which includes Godzilla. Warner Bros., which acquired King Kong via Time Warner (which acquired him through Rko), worked with Legendary to create the MonsterVerse to unite classic and new kaiju into a shared, American-produced story. The Canary Islands are attracting illustrious animation directors and art directors from France and the Spanish mainland, as local talent is returning and building:
Daniel Albaladejo Robles
Growing up on the island of Tenerife at a time when pursuing a career in animation and film was out of bounds, Albaladejo moved to Madrid to study both subjects at the Madrid Film School. His first jobs were on children’s series “Jelly Jamm,” “Pocoyo” and “The Amazing World of Gumball.” His VFX credits include “Game of Thrones” and “A Monster Calls” at El Ranchito in Madrid. “For the past few years, I have focused on storyboarding or animation, working as a freelancer for various studios, including Las Palmas-based Amuse,” he says. He recently worked on animated docu pic, “Mariposas Negras,” and is now collaborating on a U.K. series under wraps. Amdlf

With so many streaming services on the market, sometimes it’s the little things that keep you coming back to your streamer of choice. Whether that’s the colors on the menu, the sound it makes when you click on a new tile, or the selection of avatars available for your individual profile. With the launch of Warner Bros. Discovery’s new and improved streaming service Max coming next week, the company has announced a truly massive list of avatars that will be available starting Tuesday, May 23 when HBO Max and discovery+ essentially are merged into a single platform.

Cowabunga! The team has officially been assembled for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," and it's very impressive. The upcoming Paramount film hails from "The Mitchells vs. The Machines" director Jeff Rowe, who based the aesthetic on sketches he made in the margins of his school notebooks. Likely following in the footsteps of recent animated movies — which have become more experimental when it comes to blending 2D with 3D CGI — the film delves into the lives of everyone's favorite crime-fighting ninja turtles, bringing them back to the big screen for the first tie in a decade.
Before now, our only peek beneath the shell came from the Annecy International Animation Film Festival where /Film's Rafael Motamayor glimpsed 10 seconds of footage that he compared to the visual aesthetic of "Arcane," describing the show as "punk" and "very funny." Exclusive: Australia’s Princess Productions is acquiring Irish firm Boulder Media from toy giant Hasbro, we’ve learned.
The deal is the most notable M&a on the international animation market for a while. It closed earlier this month and gives Princess expanded production services capabilities for its in-house and third-party projects and allow it push into development in Ireland. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
Boulder is one of Ireland’s largest animation studios, having worked on Hasbro’s Transformers and My Little Pony franchises and TV shows such as Go Jetters and Danger Mouse. Its sale to Hasbro in 2016 was considered a major sign of intent by the U.S. toy manufacturer’s desire to make and own more content. Hasbro later acquired Pepper Pig and Pj Masks owner eOne but is now focusing more on Hasbro-branded IP and has its other entertainment assets under strategic review.

Cannes — Top European powerhouse Studiocanal has renewed its global deal with Nickelodeon which will board Season 3 of CG animated megahit “The Adventures of Paddington.”
Marking most surely one of the biggest single title content deals unveiled at this year’s Mipcom, the Nickelodeon renewal for Season 3 comes as Studiocanal has also unveiled a slew of second-window deals on Season 1 after the title’s hugely successful global rollout overseen, like Season 2, by Nickelodeon. It comes, moreover, just months after Studiocanal announced in June that Dougal Wilson is attached to direct “Paddington” 3, the third feature film in the franchise.
Together, the renewal, sales and new movie confirm “Paddington” as not only the biggest franchise at Studiocanal – at a time when the production-distribution-international sales giant is looking to expand its brand activity, says Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh – but as one of the most powerful in Europe.
Not for nothing, the late Queen Elizabeth II...

Cartoon Network fans can all breathe a sigh of relief - the beloved channel from your childhood isn't going anywhere. On Friday, Oct. 14, #RIPCartoonNetwork started trending on Twitter after another round of layoffs were announced at Warner Bros. Television as the newly formed Warner Bros. Discovery continues to consolidate departments. The news, which included consolidation within the animation department, according to Variety, left Cartoon Network viewers fearing for the home of classics like "Powerpuff Girls," "Dexter's Laboratory," and "Adventure Time."
The rumblings about the channel's potential demise became so loud that the network's official Twitter account chimed in with a hilarious response to the rumors. "Y'all we're not dead, we're just turning 30...

How did one oddball TV-Y7 cartoon portend a fraying landscape for Western cartoons in the streaming age? What does it have to do with a CEO strategy of cleansing out a repertoire of cartoons?
"The Amazing World of Gumball" is one bizarre crossbreed on the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned Cartoon Network. When I compiled The 10 Best Children's Animated Series Of The [Last] Decade, I had zero hesitation deciding on "The Amazing World of Gumball," which ran from 2011 to 2019 on Cartoon Network for six seasons, for its visual eclecticism and comedic minefield. The brainchild of creator Ben Bocquelet, the cartoon revolves around the exploits of the 12-year-old anthropomorphic cat Gumball Watterson and his brother Darwin Watterson (an adopted sibling who originated as a pet goldfish who grew legs). Their environment of Elmore is a wonderland of different mediums. Living in real-life photo-based environments, the 2D Watterson family interact and clash with a...

HBO Max is canceling yet another group of animated series and films? Must be a day that ends in "Y."
After last week's proverbial bloodbath of scrubbing nearly 40 mostly animated series, 20 of which were HBO Max exclusives, from the streaming platform, we've recently learned that the hit to animation hasn't stopped yet. According to Variety, six more upcoming animated projects have been canceled, including "Batman: Caped Crusader," the follow-up to "Batman: The Animated Series" from executive producers Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves.
Additional projects getting the shaft include "Merry Little Batman," "Did I Do That to the Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story," "The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie," and two different "Looney Tunes" films, "The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie" and "Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical." Fortunately, production on all of the projects is expected to continue with the intent to...

Abrams, and Matt Reeves.
Additional projects getting the shaft include "Merry Little Batman," "Did I Do That to the Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story," "The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie," and two different "Looney Tunes" films, "The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie" and "Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical." HBO Max continues its baffling decisions regarding its animated programming, with six animated projects no longer making their way to the direct-to-consumer streaming platform, TheWrap has confirmed.
Among the projects that will no longer stream on the platform: “Batman: The Caped Crusader,” from “The Batman” director Matt Reeves, J.J. Abrams and comic book luminary Ed Brubaker; “Did I Do That to the Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story,” an animated “Family Matters” spinoff; and two high-profile “Looney Tunes” features.
While those projects are still in development, some of which are pretty far along, TheWrap has confirmed that “Driftwood,” an original HBO Max animated feature from Victor Courtright, has been fully canceled.
