This is the fifth Reel One Entertainment TV movie in 2023 season about single dad which I watched in the last 30+ days. For some reason, they are fully on single dad train but this one has a spin. Being ROE TV movie you can always expect some technical issues, and this one has it, too, but they aren't remotely serious like in so many their other TV movies. There are few camera issues like bad angles, and few scenes have a bit of loud music when cast talked but that's it. There is barely any stock footage which is a big positive.
My issue like in their other 2023 season movies is excessive/terrible/bad makeup and this time on Tara Wilson (Lia) and kid Brynlee Menu (Ivy). Why Lia has excessive makeup like she is going to date when she works in her bakery which only do delievery i.e. They don't sell in person? I mean even if her bakery was selling in person she would be still look bad, but this is double bad. Her only worker and best friend Fay looked normal. And what's with the trend that kids (this time 10 year old) have to have war paint on their face?
Cast was good and I have no issue with it.
This movie is actually mostly drama and I like it. There is a wrong description of the movie - Lia is the failing entrepreneur, she doesn't run non-profit organization as she is failing to pay taxes. Eli is the single dad, but as I already wrote with a spin - he is not a father, but the guardian of his deceased sister's daughter, and the story about them is written and executed very well except mentioned excessive makeup on Ivy. The only minor issue is that Ivy was acting your intellectual age trope in several scenes.
This trope and excessive makeup is the reason why I can't give 7*. It's still better than majority of ROE TV movies, and their competition, too.
And obligatory don't watch trailer if you plan to watch the movie as it shows everything as in every other ROE TV movie! Why they do that every time, don't know.
