Claire Foy and Richard E. Grant are set to lead a new period drama directed by Peter Glanz.
Titled “Savage House,” the eighteenth century black comedy also stars Bel Powley (“A Small Light”) and Jack Farthing (“The Lost Daughter”).
Kila Lord Cassidy (“The Wonder”), Richard McCabe (“Napoleon”), Vicki Pepperdine (“Poor Things”) and Pip Torrens (“The Iron Lady”) round out the cast. The film recently wrapped in the U.K.
“Set against the backdrop of eighteenth century England, a massive pox outbreak, and Jacobite uprising – this is a timely and darkly satirical story of Sir Chauncey Savage (Grant) and Lady Savage (Foy) and their blind pursuit of a better life,” reads the logline. “It is not without a tinge of irony that their family name is the Savages, for this is a Savage House indeed. Filled with duels, decadence, and bloodshed, this is a madcap play on class and power.”

Exclusive: Oscar-shortlisted Panamanian filmmaker Abner Benaim (Plaza Catedral) is gearing up to direct a feature adaptation of Nemesis, the final bestseller by Philip Roth to be published prior to the famed author’s 2018 passing.
Dealing with such timely themes as an epidemic and antisemitism, Nemesis was described in The New Yorker as having “the elegance of a fable and the tragic inevitability of a Greek drama.” The novel published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in October of 2010 is set in the summer of 1944, examining the impact of a polio epidemic on a Newark, NJ community and its children.
Peter Glanz (The Longest Week) adapted the screenplay. Pablo Larraín, Juan de Dios Larraín and Andrew Hevia will produce for Fabula — the production company behind Foreign Language Oscar winner A Fantastic Woman, the Kristen Stewart starrer Spencer, and the upcoming drama Maria starring Angelina Jolie. Fernando Loureiro produces for Tigresa.

“Cyrano” star Kelvin Harrison Jr. will next embody American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat in a new project from director Julius Onah.
Harrison and Onah previously collaborated on the critically acclaimed drama “Luce,” which nabbed best male lead and best director nominations at the 2020 Film Independent Spirit Awards.
Developed and financed by Endeavor Content, the biographical film, titled “Samo Lives,” will celebrate the life, career and impact of the groundbreaking New York-born, Haitian-Puerto Rican American artist whose seminal paintings and street art defined the Neo-expressionism arts movement of the 1980s.
In 1983, Basquiat became the youngest artist to exhibit at the Whitney Biennial in New York, at just 22 years old. The acclaimed artist died on August 12, 1988 at the age of 27, but his work continues to make a great impact on the art world. At a Sotheby’s auction in 2017, Basquiat’s painting “Untitled” sold for $110.5 million, becoming one of the most expensive paintings...

Breaking: Bad Robot has acquired six new projects from a number of up and coming filmmakers. This comes amidst speculation over where Jj Abrams will set his company to a new overall deal when the pact with Paramount expires. He’s meeting all the majors, and while there’s talk of Warner Bros, Universal, Netflix and others vying, many in town believe his landing place will be Disney, where Abrams has been working often, and where he is directing his second Star Wars film after relaunching the franchise there. Bad Robot and Paramount just released the genre film Overlord.
Here are the new films, set with the producer’s discretionary fund through its Paramount deal:
* The Steps — Pic is a twist on a possession story. Blair Butler will write the project, based on an original idea by director Stefan Grube.

“I’ve always been interested in things that happen more in a rural setting,” admits cinematographer Ben Kutchins. “Most of the movies that I’ve shot to this point take place in an urban setting,” so when he was offered “Ozark,” he jumped at it. “I was raised in the country, so this was an opportunity to explore the darkness of my childhood as it were.” This year Kutchins received his career-first Emmy nomination for the series. Watch our exclusive video interview with him above.

Jeff Goldblum has joined Michael Sheen and Michelle Monaghan in an upcoming new dramady thriller called Price of Admission.
The story centers on "a middling playwright (Sheen) amidst a mid-life crisis and failing marriage. His wife (Monaghan) is tired of being second fiddle to his work — she wants a family. But incapable of functioning in reality, he submerges himself in an elaborate play about his life. The only person who understands his plight is his best friend, Alexander Taft (Goldblum), a behavioral psychologist with a mid-life crisis of his own."
The movie has a solid cast and it sounds like an interesting story, but in the end, I'll watch anything with Jeff Goldblum in it! He'll next be seen in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Price of Admission is being directed by Peter Glanz (The Longest Week).

Michael Sheen and Michelle Monaghan have been set to star in The Price Of Admission, from writer-director Peter Glanz (The Longest Week). The project’s foreign rights will be sold by Radiant International at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin. ICM Partners packaged the film and is handling the U.S. rights. Rodney Ascher took us on a tour of the secluded and ominous Overlook Hotel like never before in Room 237, a documentary about various theories on what hidden messages or themes could exist in Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining. With The Nightmare, Ascher returns to the big screen with another documentary on a scary subject, one that's all too familiar for some folks: sleep paralysis. Tormented by "shadow people" and other eerie entities while unable to move their bodies, people plagued by sleep paralysis have their stories recreated in Ascher's The Nightmare (showing tonight at the SXSW Film Festival), and North American audiences can see these nighttime terrors brought to life onscreen soon, as Gravitas Ventures has acquired The Nightmare and will release it in theaters and on VOD early this summer:

The Longest Week Review
As is often the case with new directors, Peter Glanz’ The Longest Week is built from one of his earlier short films, A Relationship in Four Days. It’s a film that is going to divide critics, many of whom will dislike it for all the things that make it great, and is a tricky sell to most audiences. There’s a fine line between a derivative work (or one that is just patently stolen) and an honorific, and watching The Longest Week reminded me of nothing so much as Down with Love. While Down with Love was more directly putting forward the films it nodded to, and was more focused in its subject, it had a difficult time winning fans, and I suspect for similar reasons, even one has far easier entry points than the other.

Looking at Jason Bateman‘s filmography over the past five years, there’s a mix of comedies, ranging in quality and style, but he plays an everyman in just about all of them. It seems as if he hit his stride with Arrested Development, and he’s been cast as the non-threatening, generally handsome but relatable, nice guy about to boil over ever since. It’s a role in which Bateman definitely excels, often bringing subtleties to each similar-feeling character. That isn’t the case in The Longest Week. Bateman stars in Peter Glanz‘s film as Conrad Valmont, an adult child whose affluent, loveless upbringing has turned him into a self-obsessed, womanizing pseudo-intellectual. When he’s kicked out of his family’s Manhattan Hotel, he’s forced to stay with his only friend, Dylan (Billy Crudup), who’s similarly full of himself but more addicted to monogamy. The two have competed through the entirety of their...

Arrested Development: Glanz’s Debut an Affluent Vacuum
For the most part, it’s an ingenious trick to fabricate an aura of empathy around a pool of pretentious piranhas endlessly floundering about in the upper echelons of privilege and oblivion. To extend an invitation to witness purported romance amongst elitists garnished with nothing more than an immeasurable trust fund and the preened hue of an Ivy League education would seem nearly impossible to enjoy, and, thus, Peter Glanz’s directorial debut, The Longest Weekend is a generous case in point.
Despite a nicely chosen cast and a handful of flourishes borrowed from the works of cinematic masters, there’s little carbonation to this stale elixir that too often depends on cliché. Overreaching and stifled by its own unnegotiable parameters, this is a highly artificial portrait of all that it attempts to convey.

The Longest Week really wants you to know how smart it is. From its opening frames (analyst’s office, stuttered Allen-esque musings on Freud) the whole affair practically oozes snoot. You tread a fine line with these kind of films, running the extreme risk of completely alienating your audience with every achingly spacious apartment and pompous musing on theatre. Frasier and The Royal Tenenbaums did it right, most recently Mutual Friends did it wrong.
The line between charm and bemusement is fine, yet The Longest Week manages to dance all over it, then traipse it out into the parking lot and back again. Its smorgasbord of influences never really goes anywhere, alternately charming and irritating on its meandering way to nowhere in particular.
The titular week kicks off as Conrad Valmont (Jason Bateman) – a privileged manchild used to the finer things in life – is gently hurled out onto the street.

The Longest Week, from writer-director Peter Glanz, is a romantic dramedy that echoes its main characters: beautiful on the outside, bereft of purpose inside. Stylistically, Glanz channels Wes Anderson, from his symmetrical framing to his reliance on voice-over narration. The references are so excessive that the film hints at satire but ultimately fails to rise above mimicry.

Woody Allen’s back catalogue casts a long shadow across contemporary romantic comedy. His tropes and trademarks are as ingrained into the collective sense memory as mother’s perfume. At the first tremble of a clarinet, mutter about mortality or meander across a Manhattan neighbourhood, we inhale the nostalgia like Bisto kids. And arguably we’d never have met Harry and Sally, walked the Sidewalks of New York or dined alongside Friends with Money without his influence.
The Longest Week is peppered with Woody base notes. Over the course of seven days, Conrad (Jason Bateman) has been stripped of the safety net of his wealth and the cushion of his ego, moved in with his cynical best friend (Billy Crudup) and accidentally fallen in love with his girl (Olivia Wilde). His eventual dilemma – to be or not to be a better man – is as timeless as Annie Hall.

Here's the trailer for incoming comedy The Longest Week, starring Jason Bateman, Billy Crudup and Olivia Wilde...
Jason Bateman scored some of the best movie reviews of his career for his directorial debut, Bad Words, earlier this year. It's a movie that's still not made it to the UK though, and his next, The Longest Week, is getting a simultaneous VOD and cinema outing.
The film stars Bateman as a 40-year old who suddenly gets his allowance cut off by his parents. This once rich man moves in with his friend, but the two become distracted by wooing a character played by Olivia Wilde. By the looks of things, you can probably fill in the blanks from there.
We've got the trailer for the film here, which gives you a taste of what to expect. The movie gets a release in the Us in September.

Here's a trailer for The Longest Week, starring Jason Bateman as a wealthy, aimless heir named Conrad Valmont who is forced to move in with his equally wealthy best friend Dylan (Billy Crudup) after his parents cut him off. They do fancy best-friend stuff like play squash and wear bow ties, until Conrad decides to mess it all up by falling in love with Dylan's girlfriend (Olivia Wilde). We know that matters of the heart are painful no matter how many vintage convertibles you own, but it's still pretty hard to feel bad for either of these dudes (as Jenny Slate's character puts it: "How am I supposed to care about a group of overprivileged affluent types who go gallivanting around without any sort of a moral compass?"). Still, we'll give it the benefit of the doubt, mainly because Jenny Slate is in it. She's delightful!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a trailer so brutally knee-cap the movie it’s marketing as quickly as the first preview for rom-com The Longest Week, which hit the web today, just has. On paper, the premise sounds fun – Jason Bateman and Billy Crudup play affluent New Yorkers who compete for the affections of a beautiful woman (Olivia Wilde). But mid-way through the trailer, the luminescent Jenny Slate comes in, presumably playing the would-be publisher of Bateman’s character’s inchoate novel, to deliver this cringeworthy piece of cynicism: “How I am supposed to care about a group of overprivileged, affluent types who go galavanting around without any sort of a moral compass?”
However, instead of answering Slate’s extremely fair question, which is one this potential viewer now also has on his mind, The Longest Week‘s trailer just goes back to its cutesy/pretentious indie...

Just recently we got our first look at Jason Bateman reuniting with Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis in Horrible Bosses 2, but before that film arrives in the fall, the "Arrested Development" star will be chasing after Olivia Wilde, much to the chagrin of his best friend Billy Crudup, in The Longest Week. As Conrad Valmont (Bateman) is cut off from his family's fortune, he is forced to move in with his old friend Dylan (Crudup), only to use his charm's in an attempt to steal his girlfriend (Wilde). It looks pretty bland, and the story feels more than a little weak, trying to make an interesting story out of rich white people problems, but maybe the cast can make this a little more appealing than it seems in the trailer? Watch! Here's the first trailer for Peter Glanz's The Longest Week, originally form Vlicious: The Longest Week is...

Love is complicated, especially when you haven’t really grown up yet. In The Longest Week, Jason Bateman plays 40-year-old Conrad Valmont, who lives at home and is heir to a vast fortune. When he’s cut off from said fortune, he moves in with his best friend Dylan (Billy Crudup) and promptly decides to romance Dylan’s girlfriend Beatrice (Olivia Wilde) on the sly.
The trailer seems to hint that the film may be fully aware of just how “first world problems” its premise is. Meanwhile, Jason Bateman plays yet another affably self-interested jerk—one might say that his...

The first trailer has debuted for Peter Glanz‘s comedy-drama “The Longest Week” starring Jason Bateman, Billy Crudup, Olivia Wilde, and Jenny Slate. The film — which marks Glanz’s feature directorial debut — follows the middle-aged Conrad Valmont (Bateman), the heir to the Valmont Hotel fortune, who is suddenly cut off from his family’s allowance as a result of his parents’ divorce. He is taken in by his friend Dylan (Crudup), only to end up betraying him by falling for Dylan’s girlfriend, Beatrice (Wilde). Oh, the problems of the privileged. While we appreciate the mid-trailer appearance by Jenny Slate to make a self-aware point about "The Longest Week" centering on rich people with petty problems, thus far at least, it's not enough to save the first impression that this upcoming comedy is well, about rich people with petty problems. Jason Bateman, Billy Crudup and Olivia Wilde star in this one about Conrad Valmont, heir to a vast fortune who has been doing not much of anything, living on a handsome weekly allowance. But suddenly he gets cuts cut off—oh no!—and has to move in with his best bud, Dylan. The problem? Conrad immediately falls for his Dylan's girlfriend Beatrice. Fast forward a bit and complications ensue and beautiful people wearing expensive clothes have sorta existential problems about trying to be decent human beings. Hilarious! "The Longest Week" opens on September 5th. Watch below. [Vlicious]...
