In addition to being an entertaining story, the film's focus on rescuing trapped workers sheds light on a crucial but frequently disregarded aspect of the mining business. This shows how difficult it is for people to work in such dangerous environments. The film is made all the more compelling by its portrayal of Jaswant Singh Gill, a mining engineer who was the driving force behind the rescue operation. Akshay Kumar, a talented actor who can convincingly portray a wide range of characters, seems ideal for this role. He has a long track record of acting success, so seeing how he portrays this historical figure should be intriguing....

This is one of the rarest gems from the Indian cinema. A real story which is inspiring and courageous in itself and is wonderfully showcased in the film.
The storytelling is so engaging, a totally edge of the seat experience, an absolutely no nonsense film, but not at all boring. One will literally feel like being a part of the film while watching it.
It's about a successful rescue mission of 65 miners trapped in a flooded situation whose plan is made and led by Jaswant Singh Gill, a mining engineer.
The performances, especially by Akshay Kumar is one of his finest, I actually recalled his performance in Kesari; absolutely natural and convincing. The supporting cast was the perfect choice too; Ravi Kishan was a lovely presence a miner; Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Varun Bhadola were all amazing and you will recognise all the actors from here and there.
There are a couple of songs; I really loved the first song; it was a wedding dance number by Akshay; and what a lovely performance; the movie just took off thereon.
It's a must watch film. Watch it to witness the courageous act of a mining engineer who also received the honour for being the Best Life Saver and it's showcased in an utmost sincere, engaging manner.

Audiences' attention has been drawn to Mission Raniganj because it appears to be a film that mixes several genres. An exciting and interesting viewing experience is ensured by the blend of action, biography, and drama. The story's exploration of the difficult and deadly world of mining is what makes it so interesting, and it's all based on real occurrences. The rescue operation for the 65 trapped miners keeps spectators on the edge of their seats with its sense of urgency and suspense. Furthermore, the casting choices are fascinating, featuring such well-known actors as Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra. Tinu Suresh Desai, a director with a track record for crafting compelling stories, is at the helm of the film.....

An amazing rescue story. We need more movies like these. Whilst the world celebrates the Thai cave rescue, we have one in our backyard, which was never unheard of. Excellent direction, excellent portrayal of human emotions and as always Akshay Kumar shines. It also showed an era of India where profiteering trumped human lives and where petty politics considered human life as nothing. And then there is the power of few humans to turn around a story and save human lives. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone. To celebrate humanity and to celebrate the spirit of a few good men. Must watch.

Mission Raniganj is based on the coal mine in Raniganj where many miners got trapped when water gushed into the mine killing a few even . How a Sikh named Jaswinder Gill managed to rescue them in record time using a first time in India technique is the plot of this completely ignored poorly promoted film.
The story no doubt is interesting by default. Any story based on such intense rescue missions which are basically race against time are always interesting. It's just the way these stories are presented. The first half actually felt pretty average with pretty average camera works (fast forward camera works that amateur directors mostly use). The villagers and miners talking felt like some serial or skit going on. However , as the interval arrives, the film starts to come back to form.
The second half is where things get really interesting and tense where we are shown a timer as Jaswinder races against time to rescue the survivors. This is where we are introduced the new method of rescuing miners from underneath is explained. Also not the water, but another deadly factor forces Jaswinder to speed up everything (watch the film to find it) . Many hurdles also are shown , all these factors make the second half and tense and worthy watch.
The VFX is pretty bad, not even below average. The gushing water has such bad VFX , it literally pricks your eyes like thorns. Clearly no budget was allocated for VFX (a problem with most Indian films).
The miners performance could have been more grounded. Their performance is way too over the top that at one point their shouting and screaming in bihari was getting on my nerves.
Introduction of negative characters just for the sake of making the film more interesting is okay but should have been fleshed out better. The negative characters which include Dibyendu Bhattacharya felt cliched and just added with lazy writing in the film.
As i mentioned before, I am not a fan of the often used fast forward camera work used in the film. It gave the film a lower grade feel. Just a personal opinion, yours could differ, you may like or not bothered with this.
Also, the setting of the disaster was too rushed . A bit of time taken to set up the disaster would have created a greater impact.
While Akshay Kumar and kumud Mishra were in fine form in the film, Pareeniti was an unnecessary addition just there for the money. Talented actors like Rajesh Singh and Dibyendu are wasted .
No songs in between the film is a big plus point and hence these things don't hamper the screenplay . The only thing that hampered the screenplay sometimes in between was Pareeniti calling Akshay in between the tense situations.
Overall, a flawed yet decently engaging film that should actually be watched to know about Jaswinder Gill . It's a shame that this film was not promoted at all and hence suffering at the box office.

The movie sticks to the point and you can't miss even a single minute of it. The ensemble cast of actors have done wonderful work. Akshay Kumar shines as Jaswant Gill. The movie is high on emotions and you cry at times. Despite all odds, Mr Gill and his team rescues 65 miners. It shows team effort and leadership. Brilliantly made and researched. Thank you to director Tinu Desai and Akshay Kumar for making every engineer feel proud. Jameel Khan, Ravi Kishan, Kumud Mishra and Pawan Malhotra have done great work. The panic which anyone would go through if stuck in between death and life has been portrayed correctly. The team effort under the leadership of Jaswant Gill is what the world needs. Wow.. Simply Superb.

Mission Raniganj is high on emotions with a gripping screenplay in the second half. The first half of the film tests the patience of viewers but it gains momentum in the latter half. The film becomes intense in the last 30 minutes and gives you several clap-worthy and nail-biting moments. The cinematography deserves applause and the evacuation scenes were shot well.
The execution and storytelling were not able to do entire justice to this remarkable plot. The film's most significant drawbacks are poor VFX, weak writing in the first half, and average dialogues. Also, it gets unnecessarily loud in a few portions and the antagonist characters were not written well.
Akshay Kumar delivers a sincere performance and portrays the real-life hero Capsule Gill's character with full conviction. Parineeti Chopra was decent in her limited role. Jameel Khan, Varun Badola, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya shine in their roles. Other noteworthy performances were given by Sudhir Pandey, Pavan Malhotra, and Rajesh Sharma. Ravi Kishan, Kumud Mishra, and other supporting actors were just fine on their part.
Direction 3/5 Acting 3/5 Dialogues 2.5/5 Story 3.5/5 Screenplay 3/5.

Uplifting!
Superb script, screenplay and acting by Akshay Kumar. ParineetiChopra role small but beautifully acted, she looked sweet and genuine. Great acting by everyone.
I have been to many old coal mines which are closed now and watching how they were shown and picturized especially the water scene and later rescue gives goosebumps. Thrilling experience to watch in big screen.
This movie must be watched in theater to feel the impact.
Story flowed smoothly . Best part is it's not a fiction story but a true story which makes it very inspirational and uplifting that we have such brave 💪 countrymen!.
One of the very best movies of Akshay Kumar.

Mission Raniganj promises to be an intense and emotionally packed movie experience with such a great team engaged. As a viewer, I'm looking forward to seeing how this incredible true story plays out on the big screen, with fantastic performances, breathtaking images, and a dramatic soundtrack to accompany the narrative. This film has the ability to educate and enlighten people about the power of the human spirit, and I believe it will have a strong impact on them..............,... I've always been captivated by true-story films, and Mission Raniganj immediately piqued my interest...............

MISSION RANIGANJ is a sensible movie based on a true occurrence which took place 34 years ago. However since films like these have limited appeal at the box office the production values are often extremely low( as is the case with this motion picture)and so the focus in films like these is on the actual story and not the acting and direction which usually at best are very ordinary (again as is the case with this movie). In Hindi cinema the difference between A grade and C grade is very vast and as such the quality in C grade films is so very low(like this movie)that the viewer has to just appreciate the fact that the filmmaker was trying his very level best to present a true occurrence in the most palatable fashion possible. Basically this movie(like other movies in this mould) is a "feel good" film depicting a true story where the "hero" in the true sense of the word both in reel and real life executes a very noble act which is highly praiseworthy.
Besides this unique story, every other aspect of filmmaking takes a back seat!
6/10 Ps. A miner's dog had a relatively long role (although silent)in this film!

The movie has the worst VFX and dialogues I've seen in a while. Seems like all the budget went to Akshay Kumar, who in turn adds nothing expect but his name to the movie.
The movie has needless dramatisation. The characters are bland and cliche.
Acting is looks forced a lot of time and it's digital to relate to the characters I am not sure about the factual accuracy as there are characters just trying to waste time instead of trying to save any lives.
The real story could have been quite straightforward with tram but they had to try and make it interesting, so made it a cesspool of drama
Typical Bollywood mess.

I saw the movie today. Sound mixing & Tinu Suresh Desai's direction is the first number. I didn't know that this incident happened. After watching the movie, I came to know that Jashwant Singh Gill has worked. This movie is from an engineer department. Every industry. The owner should show this film to the worker
Vasu Bhagnani & Jaki Bhagnani & Deepshikha Deshmukh have done very good direct work, they have used a lot of hard work and money to make a good film. Vipul Rawal's screenplay is good and the film has been shot nicely in Calcutta. Thanks to Tinu Suresh Desai & Pooja Entertainment.good.

For Akshay Kumar fans and to get a flashback to 70s Calcutta and the Chasnala Mines disaster and Gill who save many souls, a story that deserves to be shouted from the rooftops and not left forgotten in the footnotes of history.
Movie is sincere and Akshay does all the heavy lifting as usual but could have been much better and more authentic.
Kaala Paththar - the Yash Chopra 1979 commercial hit with Amitabh, Shashi and Shatru - while not exactly a disaster movie does the mines backdrop and authenticity much better and obviously commercial Bollywood drama value is much higher in KP thanks to the legendary Salim-Javed
Raniganj is well-intentioned but the hoo-aah jingoism, standard patriotic background music, stiff dialogues, some over the top dramatic moments that are not quite on the money etc etc - all make this a good effort but not a memorable great movie.
It is definitely sad that Gill simply gets a flickering 30 secs of old footage at the end with not even a good write-up.....unacceptable!!!!!
Worth a watch and as I mentioned above - for alll of us millions of Akshay fans......go Akshay !!!!! One more notch in your resume and screw the BO collections !!!!
Great addition by Netflix .......🙏🙏🙏🙏

Those who are giving 1 or 2 rating.. They watch movies like Adipurush.. This is one of the most heart touching movie. Everyone should watch this. No Extra Drama, No unnecessary songs, No masala mirchi. Pure Story with great direction and acting. All the actors have done a great job. You will not feel bored even for a second. The way they represent the real story is just awesome. After a long time.. I watch this movie and I would definitely recommend this to everyone who like real movies. Those who like illogical movies, they should avoid this kind of great experience. Don't fall for bad reviews..

Based on true events, this movie is about a brave sardarji, a mining engineer JS Gill who was responsible for planning and executing a rescue mission to save 65 miners caught in flooded coal mines in West Bengal in 1989. The movie is fairly well made and riveting enough for average audiences. It is surprising as to why it didn't do well commercially because it has all the elements which normally audiences like. In a noble rescue mission of this type we normally do not have local politicians and other villains creating obstacles, sabotaging and trying to scuttle rescue efforts specifically when there is a race against time. However this happens here, our hero Akshay Kumar doesn't lose his shirt and carries on in a cool manner with total faith in God. His optimistic wife Parineeti Chopra is pregnant and Akshay finds time to monitor her progress in the midst of hectic rescue activity.
Director Tinu Suresh Desai has made an exciting movie which keeps the audience glued to the screen. There is enough of action and melodrama even though the VFX is not the best. A host of well known character actors play supporting roles competently. As in movies of this genre the focus is on human resilience, distress, grit, pain/ injury, jealousy, hope, triumph etc and these are present in full measure. Akshay plays the lead role with conviction while Parineeti in a brief role is convincing as the supporting wife.

The content was very strong here only thing needed was a hard thumping execution
Akshay was wasted here with his bad get up of a sardarji he has offered nothing new despite he played very strong character in AIRLIFT which was also a execution content driven film
The movie missed strong dialogues, goosebumps scenes, tearful scenes, songs, back ground scores, energetic vibes and all other elements required for a execution film
I know it is very easy for us just to press alphabets and write reviews a filmmaker knows what he goes through to make a film but trust me this is just a kind information sharing to get a better one next time.

This movie is amazing and really inspiring. The true story depicted by Akshay Kumar is outstanding but I would like to criticize here role of Parineeti Chopra, she really lack acting skills. She has spoiled entire movie. Her expressions were poorer than even the support cast standing next to her. Please do take care of picking such co-actress in justifying the hero's role.
Overall movie has strong message and reflects how this would have been when this incident happened. These days having so many real life stories in the form of movies dilutes its relevance and most of the time the heros depicts themselves as they are the only saviour and rest of the supporting people were all mindless. Please maintain some balance between realism vs heroism.

Extremely poor execution. Confused direction with distracting camera work Poor lighting. Terrible vfx/cgi-cartoonish. Great talent like Kumud Mishra, Pawan Malhotra and Dibyendu Bhattacharya all appear caricatures of their true potential because of poor direction.
The timing of release was perfect with the tunnel incident at Uttrakhand just a week ago.
Jingoist as well vis-a-vis Railway men released recently.
Also as an afterthought, 'Rayban' was officially launched in India in 1992 - a goof.
Parineeta who??? The film could have well done without her and that one song.
Better screenplay and dialogues would have helped.

I am a mining engineer myself and for that the movie evokes a different feeling in my life. An engineer who did that unprecedented work without thinking about his own life in any way is almost impossible for common people and I can understand that because I am a resident of this environment of Raniganj.
Everyone go see and go home with a different feeling. A lifeless struggle for survival has been portrayed very well on the screen for the first time in Bollywood.
The background music is very well presented here, the only thing that felt very bad was when Kumud Mishra was repeatedly lighting a cigarette in his hand, it seemed that someone had put that cigarette in his hand.

This movie by Deepak Kingrani is a very well written production. The script and dialogues are extremely good and realistic. The acting in the movie is done very well by all the actors. The story line follows the experiences and the actual story of what the tragic event in Raniganj. Each scene in the movie is thrilling and nerve-wrecking which has a strong impact on the viewer. I think the movie is also important, because it makes people aware of the mine event and rescue mission that happened in Raniganj, and about the hero that saved so many miners lives! 😄 The teaser and the trailer are also very breathtaking. The screenplay is sharp and everything about the final production is outstanding! Definitely recommend this movie.
