Snow. Personally speaking, I hate it. Yeah, it looks pretty coming down and when there's a fresh blanket of it covering your city, but try shoveling that shit for 30 years and then get back to me. As if there wasn't enough reason to hate it, you can now throw an alien invasion into the mix.
According to Variety, Benderspink and Evan Astrowsky have come on board to produce science-fiction horror vehicle Snowfall with Clark Baker directing. The story, written by Brooks Elms and Glenn Sanders, takes place during a storm of the century blizzard and tracks a diverse group of Chicago residents trapped on the El Train, only to discover the storm is just a part of a cover for an alien invasion.
Baker also directed the short film Vessel, which Paramount Insurge acquired last year and set up as a feature project.

Today we came across this adorable (if one can put such epithet together in the same sentence as ‘a zombie film’) zombie horror short, called Dead Friends, and directed by Stephen W. Martin. You might say it’s a holiday short, because the main character carries an Easter Bunny stuffed animal around with her. Here, have a look: The story follows a bullied little girl who brings a little boy back from the dead. At the nine minute mark, you’ll see one of the best kid psycho faces ever! Synopsis: Nine year old Lola Turtle’s only companion is her treasured and tattered stuffed bunny, Mister Wimperbottom…...

Just yesterday, we reported that Clark Baker earned a feature project after wowing with his short film Vessel. Now, the list of short filmmakers snagging studio jobs is getting longer. According to Deadline Hollywood, Tom Jenkins and Simon Sharp are the latest to convert internet buzz into a feature gig. Sony Pictures has hired the pair to re-write Giants and direct the film. The plot focuses on an alien race of giants who are attacked and prompted to give chase to earth where they discover that they’re actually pretty small (and that they’re attacker was a loose screw from the Hubble telescope). So, it’s essentially Transformers in reverse. The pair gained traction through shorts Speed of Light and Address is Approximate, the latter of which you can see above. Obviously, this is a trend we can get behind. It’s encouraging to see talent being recognized and rewarded.

Paramount Pictures has purchased the rights to a sci-fi/horror short film directed by Clark Baker called Vessel. The studio has brought on The Grudge screenwriter Stephen Susco to write the script for the film.
The movie is described as being in the vein of Alien, The Thing and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and would tell the story of "a group of airplane passengers who encounter an otherwordly force shortly after takeoff and are thrown into a fight for their lives." The short blended practical creature effects with modern VFX, and I imagine they will incorporate those in the feature film as well.
The short Baker made was funded through Kickstarter, and I thought it turned out great! It should make for an awesome feature film! You can watch the short below if you haven't seen it yet!

Clark Baker’s short film Vessel, is a polished strong genre film that could easily be the opening sequence of a feature film.
The short was funded on KickStarter back in May and has now led to a feature film at Paramount. It did not take a long time.
Therefore, Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights with Baker directing and genre scribe Stephen Susco (The Grudge) to write and produce the feature version.
The original was written by the helmer’s fellow Chapman University grads Matt and Ross Duffer.
Likened to Alien, The Thing and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Vessel tells the story ‘of a group of airplane passengers who encounter an otherwordly force shortly after takeoff and are thrown into a fight for their lives.’
Baker’s stellar short floating around the web, so we have it for you, too.

We praised Clark Baker‘s Vessel back in May as part of our Short Film of the Day feature, so it’s beyond exciting to hear that the short has led to a feature film at Paramount. According to Variety, the studio has hired Stephen Susco (The Grudge) to write a feature film version with Baker set to direct. Unfortunately, that means the short film is now nowhere to be found online – behind privacy setting lock and key. A small price to pay for the chance to see it up on the big screen. The short featured a fantastic blend of practical and CGI effects, as well as some sharp dialogue even in the midst of a mid-air alien invasion when an airplane collides with another ship. It’s also another example of new funding methods leading to larger success. The film was funded on KickStarter, and now Baker has translated the finished product into work within...
