More than three and a half years have gone by since it was first announced that William Brent Bell – the director of Stay Alive, The Devil Inside, Wer, The Boy, Brahms: The Boy II, Separation, and Orphan: First Kill – would be making a folk horror film called Lord of Misrule. Two years have gone by since we heard the movie was in production, with filming taking place in Hertfordshire, UK. Now a trailer for Lord of Misrule has finally made its way online, and with that comes the news that the film will be receiving a theatrical and VOD release on December 8th. So check out the trailer in the embed above to see if this looks like a movie you’d want to watch in a couple months!
Starring Tuppence Middleton (Mank), Lord of Misrule was scripted by Tom de Ville and follows Rebecca Holland, who has recently taken over the parish church.

A “found footage” horror movie about werewolves? From the guys behind The Devil Inside? Bear with me, I promise there’s a light at the end of this topsy-turvy tunnel.
Where The Exorcism Of Emily Rose attempts to weigh demonic possession against mental illness, Wer calls upon the same judicial storytelling by putting a suspected werewolf on trial in hopes of proving innocence through physical ailments. Playing out like a faux-documentary, most of the film is spent watching a sassy lawyer defender her furry client, condemning a case riddled with inconsequential evidence that only the worst investigation could slum together, but a shockingly invigorated third act changes at the rising of a full moon. Writer/Director William Brent Bell and co-writer Matthew Peterman’s previous film, The Devil Inside, crumbles under the weight of vapid storytelling and an absolutely insulting ending, but these rejuvenated artists refuse to wander the same joyless road a second time.

Despite scoring some lacklustre reviews, particularly for its frustrating finale, William Brent Bell’s thrifty horror The Devil Inside did huge business at the box office, scoring $101.7 million globally from a budget that hovered around the $1 million mark. He’s looking to keep the terror coming with a new project called The Inhabitant.A collection of production companies have him set to direct Stacey Meaner’s script The Inhabitant. Despite Deadline reporting on the film, no one has seen fit to release any plot details about the project, aside from admitting that it’s another supernatural tale along the lines of The Conjuring. So… haunted house thriller with a possession element? Only time will tell, but looking to leap on that bandwagon after the success of James Wan’s thriller certainly isn’t a bad idea, assuming the screenplay and finished product work.Bell’s most recent project, werewolf thriller Wer,...

The horror film Wer just got Simon Quarterman set as the male lead. He’ll play Gavin Flemyng and stars opposite Aj Cook, the Criminal Minds star who’s also starring in the film. Quarterman reunites with The Devil Inside helmer William Brent Bell, who wrote the script with Matthew Peterman. Morris Paulson, Peterman and Steven Schneider are producing. Wer is financed by FilmDistrict, Sierra/Affinity and the Incentive Filmed Entertainment fund. The film begins production in April in Romania. Wer brings a filmmaking style similar to The Devil Inside, but applies it to a different horror mythology — the werewolf. Cook plays a lawyer out to get an acquittal for a man charged in the brutal murder of an American family, and despite his gentle demeanor, she discovers he’s got a bit of a bark to him when the moon is full. Quarterman is represented by ICM and Elevate Entertainment.
