The title translated means The [Female] Chief. Unlike English, German nouns have a gender associated with them and will have a different spelling than the masculine form. What's more, the article associated with the name also is spelled differently according to the gender. Thus, the German "the" is spelled "der" (pronounced like "dare" for masculine), "die" (dee) for feminine, and "das" for neutral nouns. So, a male chief is "der Chef", a female one is "die Chefin". Because of this English can be difficult to translate. For example, the Meryl Streep movie She-Devil (1989) is literally translated to Die Teufelin, which doesn't convey the meaning.
