We haven't seen the last of Skeksis' wrath, as Netflix has announced the new series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. A collaboration with The Jim Henson Company, the ten-episode series is a prequel to Henson's beloved 1982 film and is teased in its first trailer.

Have you ever wanted to watch Joseph Gordon-Levitt to sing and dance with a host of Jim Henson creations? Because if that was some weird dream of yours, you hit the nail right on the head, and could probably be a studio executive with that kind of mind.

Variety reported on Thursday that Gordon-Levitt will produce and star in a live-action Fraggle Rock movie. The site adds that the bigscreen adaptation of the musical puppet series created by the late Jim Henson has been in the works for nearly a decade, but the attachment of Gordon-Levitt constitutes a major boost.

Fraggle Rock debuted on TV in 1983 as a co-production by British TV company Television South, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., HBO and Henson Associates. It centered on the adventures of cave-dwelling creatures called Fraggles who have to deal with the industrious Doozers and furry giants called Gorgs.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is currently hard at work on Oliver Stone’s Edward Snowden pic, an experience that seems to have left him keen for lighter fare. Per Variety, the actor is now involved in a live-action Fraggle Rock movie for New Regency and The Henson Company. In addition to producing the feature the Don Jon star is also taking the lead role.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is headed to The Trash Heap!

According to Variety, Joseph G-l has jumped on board the live action "Fraggle Rock" adaptation. He'll both star in and produce the feature film, which is based around Jim Henson's wonderfully quirky children's show from the 1980s.

"The first screen personas I ever loved were Henson creations, first on 'Sesame Street,' and then on 'Fraggle Rock,'" Joseph said in a statement, adding that he's never stopped loving Henson's work and he's thrilled to be collaborating with Lisa Henson and New Regency.

A movie adaptation has been in the works for almost 10 years, but Variety noted that, with Jgl coming on board, it gives the project a major push forward. There's no word on when the movie might be released, or other details, but the Doozers are probably busy building all the sets so it may be a while.

Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge wrapped up its first season on Syfy earlier this week, and it has proven to be one of 2014’s most delightful surprises. The eight-episode reality competition premiered in late March to over 1.1 million viewers, making it the network’s highest-rated unscripted premiere since 2013.
