I suppose the Hitchhikers‘ ground has been thoroughly salted at this point – I’ve seen the movie; you don’t need to tell me – which is why we’ve gotten two Dirk Gently TV series and these comics over the past decade. But even leaving aside how much Douglas Adams was a writer of voice to begin with, the Dirk books were fun because of the way they were told rather than the vague shaggy-dog stories they told. So doing the same sort of thing in a different medium feels like the wrong next step: the Adams estate would have been better off commissioning someone to write more Dirk novels, I think: assuming anyone could convincingly do that, which is the rub.

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, which starred Wood (Wilfred) as the titular crime solver’s trusty-ish sidekick, will not return for a third season, our sister site Deadline reports.

The series also starred Samuel Barnett (Penny Dreadful), Hannah Marks (Awkward), Jade Eshete (Shades of Blue), Fiona Dourif (When We Rise), Mpho Koaho (Falling Skies), Michael Eklund (Wynonna Earp), Dustin Milligan (90210) and Osric Chau (Supernatural).

Dirk Gently star Hannah Marks has co-written the script and will star in new indie comedy, Banana Split...

Hannah Marks is one of the many standouts in Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency where she stars as punk rock wizard Amanda Brotzman. Now, the young actress is expanding her portfolio, co-writing the script for Banana Split, an upcoming indie comedy currently filming in Syracuse.

According to Deadline, Marks will star alongside The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody star Dylan Sprouse (aka the Sprouse twin not on Riverdale) and If I Stay's Liana Liberato. The film will be the feature debut for Ben Kasulke, who has an extensive resume as a cinematographer on such projects as Safety Not Guaranteed and the TV show Review. The film will be fully financed by American High, a new company from Mickey Liddell and Jeremy Garelick.

AMC Networks will premiere “Planet Earth: Blue Planet II” with a scheduling roadblock on all of its channels. The first episode of the seven-part series bows Saturday, Jan. 20, on BBC America, AMC, IFC, We TV and Sundance TV; after that, the remaining six episodes will run weekly on BBC America.

“Blue Planet II” has already aired in the UK, where it is the highest-rated show of 2017. More than 14 million viewers tuned in to the premiere, making it the country’s most-watched natural history program in at least 15 years. “Blue Planet II” is also a massive hit in China, where it recently premiered.

“Blue Planet II” will also debut in Canada on Jan. 20, on the BBC Earth Channel.

There are very few horror movies in the world that I love more than An American Werewolf in London. It is funny and gory. I always wondered why director John Landis didn’t do a sequel. Yes, yes, yes, I know there is An American Werewolf in Paris, but I am just going to ignore that that piece of crap even exists.

Anyway, thanks to DigitalSpy, in an upcoming book called: Beware the Moon: The Story of An American Werewolf in London by Paul Davis, John Landis explains that he had a sequel script written but it was never done. Here is what he had to say:

We've lost a lot of inspirational figures in the horror genre this past year, including the great Bernie Wrightson, a brilliant artist, co-creator of the Swamp Thing and passionate fan of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. “How did I forget how annoying you are?” asks Todd Brotzman (Elijah Wood) in the trailer for BBC America’s “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.” It’s a familiar feeling for viewers reentering the world Max Landis adapted from Douglas Adams’ source material because just as with last year, this season is not content to unspool a story quietly, logically, or with any sort of restraint.

The overstuffed episode checks back in with eight returning characters (yes, we’re also counting Rowdy 3 member Vogel and the dog Rapunzel), and introduces at least eight more. Despite that surfeit of players, we have yet to even meet Alan Tudyk, who joins this year as the gun-happy Mr. Priest.

When Douglas Adams unexpectedly died in 2001, he left a monumental void in the world of science fiction. Through works like The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency he established himself as a literary idol for an entire generation who would grow up to see many of his seemingly far-out ideas come to fruition. NBC’s Midnight, Texas this Monday drew 3.4 million total viewers and a 0.9 rating, rising 21 and 50 percent to deliver its biggest audience since the premiere while tying its series high in the demo.

Opening NBC’s night, American Ninja Warrior (6.5 mil/1.5) was up 13 percent and two tenths to hit and tie season highs.

Everything is still connected when “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” returns, but there just happen to be more things to connect.

The Season 2 trailer, which BBC America released on Wednesday, reveals that Dirk (Samuel Barnett) and his pal Todd (Elijah Wood) will be reunited by the law. Meanwhile, Todd’s sister Amanda (Hannah Marks) appears to have figured out how things are connecting also. And it’s very quick, but we’re happy to see the corgi has returned as well as Bart (Fiona Dourif) looking a little bit sooty and the newly bearded Ken (Mpho Koaho). There’s also a prince with pink hair.

When Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency returns with new episodes this fall on BBC America, we'll see the return of familiar faces as well as plenty of new characters looking to either align themselves with or hunt down Dirk (Samuel Barnett) and Todd (Elijah Wood). At San Diego Comic-Con, Daily Dead had the opportunity to take part in roundtable interviews with returning cast members Barnett, Wood, Hannah Marks, and Jade Eshete, as well as new additions Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine, to discuss what's to come in season 2.

What can we expect from season 2, especially your relationship with each other? Can we expect you to work better together or will we still get head-butting moments?

After watching the end of its first season, fans of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency know that the show is going to be quite a different experience in season 2, and at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Daily Dead took part in roundtable interviews to look ahead at the future of the series and also reflect on season 1 with co-stars Fiona Dourif and Mpho Koaho, as well as executive producers Robert Cooper and Max Landis.

How did you go about taking something like Dirk, [from] Douglas Adams, which to me feels quintessentially British, and then making it something that will work on BBC America and all around the world?

On Sunday, BBC America held a panel for “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” to reflect on its first season and look ahead at Season 2. On the panel were series creator Max Landis, showrunner Robert Cooper, and the cast consisting of Elijah Wood, Samuel Barnett, Hannah Marks, Jade Eschete, Fiona Dourif, Mpho Koaho, and new Season 2 actors Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine.
