Unfolding in what looks like a single take, Thomas Sieben sends his protagonist into a house that’s haunted by historical trauma
When Maria (Nilam Farooq) shows up 37 weeks pregnant at the attractive but remote country home of her husband Viktor (David Kross), you sense immediately that no good can come of this. If a character is pregnant in a film, it’s about even odds that said pregnancy will function as a way to increase their vulnerability – though not all films take this as far as this nifty little low-budget horror movie from talented German director Thomas Sieben, which combines the haunted house subgenre with pregnant-woman-in-peril to nicely nerve-jangling effect.
Occult horror always needs a starting point, a first evil from which the later ghosties and bumps in the night derive. Some films take as their inciting incident a broader historical crime or atrocity and it’s into this category Home Sweet Home falls.

Air Supply may be the latest chart-topping musical act to get the big screen treatment.
Altit Media Group said it plans to make biopic about the band that will, in a nod to one of the group’s biggest hits, be entitled, “All Out of Love: The Air Supply Story.” The film will be released in summer 2025 to celebrate Air Supply’s 50th anniversary. Filming is set to take place in Australia and the U.K. during the fourth quarter of 2024.

The question of who will continue the legacy of the 4Ks and particularly their successes on the international movie scene is one of the most dominant in the discussions among critics and scholars of Japanese cinema. Following the 2016 Un Certain Regard Jury Prize for “Harmonium”, one of the names that provides an answer to the aforementioned question is that of Koji Fukada. In the following text, we will take a closer and more thorough look at all the elements that make the 1980 born filmmaker a worthy successor of the aforementioned masters, starting from the very beginning of his life.
Born in Tokyo in Tokyo on January 5, 1980, Koji Fukada had a father who was a film buff, which resulted in him growing up in an environment surrounded with hundreds of VHS tapes, and subsequently, to become a cineaste, just like his old man. He watched the movies that inspired him to...

As the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival embarks on its second quarter-century, with its 26th edition kicking off March 7, the event’s industry arm continues to look for ways to reinvent itself. “We are educating ourselves. We are asking the local and the regional industries and communities, ‘What do you need from us?’” says Angeliki Vergou, who heads the Agora industry program. “I believe in this open dialogue…with our colleagues about the challenges they face and we face [as we] try to figure it out together.”
A perennial highlight of the industry program is the Agora’s co-production and co-financing forum, which takes place March 11 and will present 12 projects in development by documentary filmmakers from Southeastern Europe, the Middle East and the Black Sea region. Another highlight, Agora Docs in Progress, held March 12, showcases 11 films nearing completion and ready to hit the festival circuit this year.

Jianjie (JJ) Lin's debut feature “Brief History of a Family” stood out in the programming at Sundance this year. The Chinese-Danish co-production – one of this year's nominees in the World Cinema – Dramatic competition – surrenders to ambiguity. Unlike the many straightforward narratives at this year's edition, the film remains mum on who's on the side of good and evil – and perhaps, that underlines the thrill of the movie.
“A Brief History of a Family” premiered at Sundance 2024, and will play in the Panorama of the 74th edition of Berlinale. World sales is managed by Films Boutique and the screening schedule is available here.
Here, the spoiled Tu Wei (Muran Lin) lives a happy, upper middle class life with his two parents (Ke-Yu Guo and Feng Zu). Things begin to change, however, when he takes a high school classmate, Yan Shuo (Xilun Sun) under his wing after an accident at a basketball court.

Olivia Rodrigo may be one of the modern princesses of pop, but the 20-year-old singer has been getting a taste of the ’80s as of late by attending Depeche Mode and The Cure concerts with her dad, as she shared in a new interview with Vogue.

In early May, we travelled to Nashville to spend a couple of days with Mick Mars and hear about his bitter departure from Mötley Crüe. Mars stepped away from the touring unit in late 2022 after 41 years in the group he co-founded. He’d been suffering from the debilitating bone disease ankylosing spondylitis for decades, and life on the road simply became too painful to endure. In his telling, they used this as an excuse to violate legal agreements and deny him his share of band proceeds. The matter is currently...

So who likes “first looks” at things? This week brought them to the internet in bulk. In a nutshell: Quentin Tarantino unveiled a (somewhat controversial) peek at Once Upon a Time In Hollywood; HBO proved that yes, the Deadwood movie we’ve dreamed about for years will indeed be seen by actual human beings; and Netflix gives us an actual trailer — not a release date announcement, but a preview with footage — of Stranger Things‘ third season. Plus more Toy Story 4, more John Wick 3 and A24’s teaser for the...

The “Stranger Things” kids are facing their biggest foe yet: puberty. Ok, well, not really, since there is a mess of a monster at the end of the brand new Season 3 trailer, which dropped Wednesday, but things are not the same between the gang with their adolescent years fast approaching.
“We’re not kids anymore,” Mike (Finn Wolfhard) says in the clip. “I mean, what did you think? We were just going to sit in my basement all day?”
Yes? Can’t we all be kids again? You guys will get it when you’re adults.
Season 3 is set in the summer of 1985, so the trailer is backed by Motley Crue‘s “Home Sweet Home” and The Who‘s “Baba O’Riley” for maximum mid-’80s nostalgia (also definitely not a coincidence they chose a song that contains the lyrics “teenage wasteland”). We see Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Max (Sadie Sink) get closer,...

Fans are dying for some anarchy in first trailer for "Dirt," Netflix’s Mötley Crüe biopic.
"Be strong and rock hard," Mötley Crüe advised. And when you deliver, "shout at the devil.” Netflix dropped the first Mötley Crüe biopic The Dirt trailer and it looks like the world's most notorious band had a blast earning that reputation. The film won't cop out on the band's more controversial and painful moments. Nikki Sixx’s Dec. 23, 1987 party til you die party with Slash and Steven Adler from Guns N’ Roses and Ratt’s Robbin Crosby; Tommy Lee’s stormy marriage to Heather Locklear; Mick Mars’ bone disease diagnosis, and the car crash that killed Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley and put Vince Neil in jail will all get celluloid treatment.
The biopic is a film adaptation of Mötley Crüe’s 2001 memoir, The Dirt: Confessions Of The World’s Most Notorious Rock Band.

Consider this mansion flipped: Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West are parting ways with their lavish Bel Air estate for a cool $20 million, according to TMZ.
The home, which the famous couple bought for $11 million in January 2013, is set to hit the market in just a few days after extensive renovations.
Los Angeles real estate sources say the home will get the over $20-plus million they're asking, and, due to its prime location, might trigger a bidding war, TMZ reports.
The West family never even lived in the home – they moved in with the 35-year-old's mom Kris Jenner due to the remodel right after purchase.
