Originally one of the protagonists, actor Héctor Noas abandoned the production in 2016, citing differences with changes in the screenplay. This led to a even more fragmented narrative style in the film. In October 2019, after every other actor had signed, Noas demanded 2000 USD from the production to sign a release form to authorize his participation in the three scenes he had filmed. The director then launched a crowdfunding campaign with the Spanish site VERKAMI to raise the money. The campaign was successful and the legal issue was cleared.

Actor Eduardo Martinez had a larger role as the state security agent following the trail of Elena. After a police raid to a clandestine theater play written by Lynn Cruz and directed by Miguel Coyula, where he was in attendance, Eduardo Martinez abandoned the project.
Actor Miriel Cejas was cast to play the role of Korlan's sister. Four days before shooting she declined the role fearing political retribution from the Cuban Film Industry. She was replaced with actor Camila Carballo who was a former classmate in acting school.
The human bones which appear in the abandoned building belong to Lynn Cruz's grandmother. Her remains were being transferred from Havana's cemetery to her hometown and lacking a special effects person who could create realistic bones, the filmmakers resorted to the real thing.
