Elvis is in the building, and farewell Cecily.
This "SNL" episode from Dec. 17, 2022 the Christmas episode hosted by Austin Butler("Elvis") and with musical guest Lizzo was a special one and memorable that was funny and touching and emotional as a beautiful cast member says goodbye. The episode starts off with a Donald Trump parody as the ex president introduces his new line of "Trump" digital trading cards!! Then the skits with the talented Austin Butler were well done and funny from his being on a game show to seeing the love of Elvis Presley at a retirement home! And the parody of actress Jennifer Coolidge at Christmas was funny and a blast! However in an emotional send off cast member the talented and beautiful Cecily Strong acted in her last "SNL" episode as she is leaving hopefully to bigger and better acting roles in movies I hope. However the cast along with Butler and even Strong herself sing the "Christmas" classic "Blue Christmas" and as we know Austin(Elvis) can sing and Cecily has a beautiful talented voice also! Memorable episode a fine year end "Christmas" closer just nice to see Cecily Strong for one more last time as "SNL" lost a great super fine cast member!
Cecily farewells SNL
Good luck Cecily
I'd like to start by saying as a performer I think Cecily shows a lot of promise. With better non-SNL writers I think she could become a sitcom star or film star. Good luck to her.
To the episode itself, I mentioned to my wife while watching this evening that as weak as last season was, for the most part, it feels like last season was a far cry better in writing and execution compared to this one.
For one thing, this episode (like the last few) was so sloppy. The missed camera cues are actually throwing off the performers. I thought I was watching a high school play at times.
Unfortunately Cecily's final episode also was just generally not funny. Again I found myself confused (as I often have this season) as to what the joke even was in some of these skits. The Wheel of Fortune "joke" was that the guy guessed stuff too fast? Really?
It's all just so sterile and lame.
The night really finished with a thud though closing out with a bizarre (but I guess arbitrary) Elvis song delivered by the host to Cecily as a final send off...why? Did she have some weird love of Elvis we don't know about or was this just "Hey we don't know how to end this but this dude can do Elvis karaoke so how bout that?"
