Ahead of the premiere of Virgin River’s sixth season, the drama has already scored a renewal at Netflix.

The cast announced on Instagram on Wednesday that the show has been renewed for season seven, which will consist of 10 one-hour episodes. Patrick Sean Smith (Greek, Chasing Life) will also return as showrunner and executive producer.

Virgin River, based on author Robyn Carr’s book series of the same name, follows nurse practitioner Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) who moves from Los Angeles to a remote Northern California town seeking a fresh start. But she quickly learns that small-town living isn’t quite as simple as she expected and that she must heal herself before she can truly make Virgin River her home.

Jones is best known for co-producing and writing on various seasons of Issa Rae’s hit HBO comedy series, Insecure. He has also written on shows like Games People Play for BET, Underground for OWN, and Ben Watkins’ Hand of God for Amazon.

Jones co-created and executive produced the BET comedy series Boomerang, loosely based on the 90s-era film starring Eddie Murphy and Halle Berry. Berry and Lena Waithe also served as executive producers across the show’s two seasons.

In 2013, Jones was selected to participate in the prestigious ABC/Disney Television Writing Program and was a staff writer on the ABC Family drama series, Chasing Life.

Anderson Cooper will debut a new CNN Audio podcast that will be devoted to exploring loss and grief.

All There Is with Anderson Cooper will premiere on Sept. 14.

According to the network, Cooper began recording the podcast alone during his final weeks packing up the apartment of his mother Gloria Vanderbilt. He found unopened boxes belonging to his late father and brother, and overwhelmed by the experience, he began to record intimate conversations with others about coping with grief. Among those who share their experiences are Stephen Colbert, Molly Shannon and Laurie Anderson.

In a statement, Cooper said, “I’ve often felt isolated and alone in grief and yet it is something all of us will experience in our lives. It’s helped me tremendously to hear from others on how they move forward in the face of loss, and I hope it helps listeners of this podcast as well.

Time moves slowly on Netflix's megahit Virgin River, and it will continue to do so under new showrunner Patrick Sean Smith.

TV Line reported this week that the Greek creator and Chasing Life EP, is taking over from original showrunner Sue Tenney.

“Sue had moved on to other projects, and I’d worked with Netflix on Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings so we had a pre-existing relationship,” Smith said in a statement to TV Line.

“I was already a fan, and I was super excited when they came to me with the possibility," the new showrunner said.

"The cast cares so much about the show and the fans, and they want to put on the best show possible."

"I think they’ve done that for the past four seasons, so it just makes it easier for me to pick up the ball and keep running into Season 5 and beyond," he added.

The citizens of Virgin River are about to get a taste of Greek life.

Patrick Sean Smith, creator of Greek and executive producer of Chasing Life, is joining Virgin River as its new showrunner for Season 5, taking the reins from previous showrunner Sue Tenney.

Back-to-back weeknight CNN anchors Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon will debut a new weekly podcast called The Handoff, CNN Audio announced Tuesday.

The show was unabashedly inspired by the on-air banter between the two hosts during handoff on many key issues of the day.

“Each night during the primetime hours of CNN’s television programming, viewers witness the deep love, honest candor, and respect that these two anchors—and friends—have for one another in their unscripted “handoff” conversations between shows. Now, with no broadcast clock to hold them back, they are stepping out from behind their anchor desks to come together and ignite even more personal and hot topic conversations. Nothing is off limits,” CNN said.

The Handoff will be available exclusively with a subscription to the CNN channel on Apple Podcasts when Apple Podcasts Subscriptions debuts later this month.

Per Deadline, Scott Michael Foster has nabbed a recurring role as a TV reporter named Ryan.

Described as a “well-liked single dad who’s overcome a history of addiction, Ryan has secrets, including a controlling, calculating demeanor that he reserves for those closest to him and anyone who gets in his way.”

Yep, he sounds just as dark as the characters that came before him.

Steven Weber is continuing his mission to be on every show ever. The ubiquitous actor is headed to Chicago Med in a recurring role in the NBC drama’s sixth season, TVLine has learned.

Weber — who most recently starred in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why and NBC’s Indebted — will play Dr. Dean Archer, a wry, blunt and talented physician who makes the move from a rural hospital to Gaffney Chicago Medical Center’s Emergency Department, where he already knows one of the docs. As a former Naval officer, Dr. Archer oversaw Dr. Ethan Choi (played by Brian Tee) during active duty.

Penned by husband-and-wife duo of Griffith and Keller, The Translator’s Daughter is a thriller about an American college student who, while interning for the CIA, finds herself torn among the loyalty to her country, the female crime boss protecting her and the young New York detective with whom she’s fallen in love.

Hayes and Milliner executive produce via their Universal TV-based Hazy Mills banner, Griffith and Keller also executive produce. Universal TV is the studio.

CNN has promoted Jon Adler to the post of vice president of program development for CNN Original Series, the unit responsible for shows such as The History of Comedy and The Redemption Project with Van Jones.

Adler had been senior director of programming. He’s responsible for establishing relationships with the creative community and developing programming for CNN platforms. He also works with producers to create content from pitches and pilots to series orders. He also identifies external production companies as series partners, such as Tricky Dick, done with Left/Right, and Sex & Love with Christiane Amanpour, in which the network was partnered with Zero Point Zero.

Adler’s other projects include Chasing Life with Sanjay Gupta, along with Part 2 Pictures; American Style, with Vox, and Colin Quinn: Red State Blue State. The History of Comedy partner was Herzog / Hazy Mills and The Redemption Project was Citizen Jones.

Lionsgate has promoted two of its executives, naming Scott Herbst as its new head of scripted development for Lionsgate Television Group and Jocelyn Sabo as senior vice president of television.

Herbst, who will continue to report to Lionsgate TV chairman Kevin Beggs, will be charged with the development of Lionsgate scripted series across broadcast, cable and streaming, and identify and develop content for buyers. He and his team will also work through the company’s production partnerships with 3 Arts Entertainment and Point Grey Pictures to create new projects.

Ben Lewis, who portrays William “Will” Clayton on Arrow, has been upped to a series regular for the eighth and final season of the CW’s linchpin superhero franchise.

Lewis made his first appearance on Arrow last October in the Season 7 premiere, which introduced him as a future adult version of the title hero’s son.. Will is the child of the late Samantha Clayton and Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), the former billionaire playboy and one-time mayor of Star City who battles crime as a vigilante archer.

With the network becoming an independent network, it was evident there would be some big swings.

Empire, which has spent its first five seasons on Wednesdays is being moved to Tuesdays for its final (!) season.

It will be paired with The Resident, which is leaving its Monday at 8/7c slot.

Netflix has set a Friday, May 31 release date for When They See Us, filmmaker Ava DuVernay’s four-part limited series about the Central Park Five, a group of teens of color who 30 years ago were wrongly convicted of rape.

When They See Us will chronicle the notorious case of five teenagers from Harlem — Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise — who in the spring of 1989 were first questioned about the incident. The CW’s Supergirl has cast Major Crimes alum Jessica Meraz in the recurring role of Pamela Ferrer aka Menagerie, TVLine has confirmed.

An iconic DC villain and a member of The Elite — an assembly of antiheroes led by Manchester Black (played by David Ajala) — Menagerie in her live-action TV incarnation is a jewel thief who doesn’t mind hurting people.
