In most cases, we only know so much about the people behind our favorite movies and TV shows. We know a few lead and supporting stars by name; we could probably spell the names of directors or showrunners without too many mistakes; and sometimes, the person who penned the script also gets a little recognition.
But every major production involves hundreds if not thousands of people, most of them going completely underappreciated. It doesn’t take a genius to thank George Martin for making House of the Dragon possible, for one — but do you know all the others who wrote their brains and fingers off to deliver the Targaryen spin-off?
Who Wrote House of the Dragon, in General?
Despite having already mentioned him, we can’t start the discussion of “who wrote HotD” without paying our respect to George Martin first. The celebrated author wrote the novel Fire & Blood, on...

Exclusive: AnnaLynne McCord (90210) has a start date for Days of Our Lives and she may — or may not! — be assuming a very crucial role on the Peacock drama.
On June 19, a mystery woman will arrive in Salem. At first, it’s assumed that the character of Abigail Devereaux — who was previously portrayed by Kate Mansi, Marci Miller and Ashley Benson — is back in town.
So is McCord that woman?
A little backstory for the uninitiated: Miller was last seen as Abigail in 2022. Before that, Mansi played the character until 2020. Benson also had a turn from 2004-07.
For now, Dool isn’t saying for sure if McCord is truly taking over the part.

There have been numerous medical dramas on television, and 10 years ago, on May 27, 2014, The Night Shift joined that list. The NBC drama, with a cast including Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Ken Leung, Brendan Fehr, Robert Bailey, Jr., Jeananne Goossen, and Scott Wolf, ran four seasons and for three of them was a welcome addition to the summer lineup (the second aired in the spring). Created by Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, the drama followed the lives of the staff who work the late night shift in the emergency room at San Antonio Memorial Hospital, and according to Macken, who was last seen on La Brea (which ended after three seasons on NBC), that’s not the only thing that made it stand out. “What Gabe and Jeff did was everyone that came onto that show in any capacity in every episode they knew or worked with usually, or if there...

TV crossovers and interconnected universes are the best things when it comes to fandom. But they can be super tricky, for it involves combining separate ongoing storylines into one project. It’s a daunting task for the creative group, which if not done correctly can end up being like Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl and Brooklyn 99 crossover.
Zooey Deschanel as Jessica Day in New Girl
Although people appreciated watching Zooey Deschanel in Brooklyn 99, it wasn’t a great idea to combine the comedy styles of the two shows. Further, what created the biggest mess out of the crossover was featuring the same actors in different roles in the two shows.

Macken’s acting credits are extensive, including Merlin, The Night Shift, a satiric film –Grey Elephant, and currently, La Brea, where he portrays Gavin Harris.
After La Brea finishes, Eoin will star in a new Roku series called Borderline, which he’s excited about because it touches on his Irish roots.
We always love chatting with Eoin, and we discussed many topics, including how Gavin’s new memories would affect the rescue mission, Gavin and Izzy’s evolving father-daughter relationship, and if fans would be pleased with the finale. He also teased his upcoming shows.

Hong Chau will be looking to round off a pretty good year by snagging her first-ever Emmy nomination. This would come after she claimed her first Oscar bid, which came in Best Supporting Actress for “The Whale.” That was for her moving performance opposite Brendan Fraser in Darren Aronofsky‘s film. But, now, on the TV side of things, she will be competing for Best Comedy Guest Actress for Rian Johnson‘s “Poker Face.”
The Peacock episodic murder-mystery show follows Natasha Lyonne as Charlie, a young woman who goes on the run from a casino following a suspicious death. On her journey, she encounters various, mysterious new cases and uses her unbelievable ability to figure out if somebody is lying to help solve the murder. The show follows a case-of-the-week format and introduces new characters and guest actors every week, who are all a treat to watch. And none more so than Chau.

The desert meets the ’70s meets the Western. That’s how “Poker Face” costume designer Trayce Gigi Field describes the vibe of Peacock’s whodunnit series starring Natasha Lyonne.
Lyonne plays Charlie Cale, a casino worker with a knack for solving crimes as she goes on the run across the country. Field knew the first thing she had to do was create a look that was a departure from Lyonne’s previous series, “Russian Doll.” First rule: No black.
“We wanted a different color palette, so I put together mood boards, and some of those things like the buttery brown Ysl jacket made it into the series,” says Field.
Charlie is a character who lives off the beaten path and “probably shops at thrift stores,” says Field. Furthermore, she wanted to ground Charlie in reality, and as someone who keeps her clothes in the car. “Natasha loved the black rickrack vest,...

The Nurse is a Danish series directed by Kasper Barfoed starring Fanny Louise Bernth and Josephine Park.
As it begins, it warns us: “based on real events” and it seems that what happened in The Good Nurse (with Jessica Chastain) is not the exclusive patrimony of Americans, and now we get this Danish version of a very similar story, but with very different protagonists and setting.
The Nurse About the Series
Four chapters very well executed, following the (television) rhythm properly and rigorously fulfilling the parameters that a movie “based on real events” requires. Do not expect eccentricity in the narrative or characters that are out of the ordinary, there is no story that surprises us by its originality or comes, ultimately, to tell us anything new.

Ryan recently worked with auteur director Rian Johnson on the hit Peacock series “Poker Face.” He also currently stars in the new Broadway musical “New York, New York,” where he is directed by Susan Stroman while singing tunes by theater icons John Kander and the late Fred Ebb (with an assist from Lin-Manuel Miranda). “From my nerd perspective I’m just elated that I’m even associated with any of these songs,” admits Ryan. This article contains spoilers for season 1 of "Poker Face."
"Poker Face" is a formulaic show, and that's not a complaint. In a TV landscape where everything feels increasingly serialized, there's something refreshing about a simple case-of-the-week style detective show. Every episode has the same basic format: we watch as a murder scenario plays out, we cut back to reveal how the on-the-run drifter Charlie (Natasha Lyonne) was nearby at the time, and then we watch as Charlie slowly figures out the situation. Once she does, she then has to figure out how to get justice without putting herself back on the grid.
That might sound repetitive, but "Poker Face" always seems to find a fresh way to play with the formula.
Sometimes the victim in the opening sequence turns out to be Charlie herself (long story there), or sometimes another character figures out the mystery before Charlie does. Perhaps the biggest twist to the format,...

Peacock’s weekly murder mystery from creator Rian Johnson has completed debut season, with audiences comfortable with its howcatchem format, episodic cast overhauls, and Charlie’s (Natasha Lyonne) innate ability to know when people are lying. The series was renewed for a second season, promising Charlie’s prolonged survival — and the return of that irresistible Plymouth Barracuda.
So who won “Poker Face” Season 1? Which crime stole the show, which killers really killed, and when will we see Beatrix Hasp (Rhea Perlman)? We don’t have all the answers, but we definitely won’t lie.
Here’s every episode of “Poker Face” Season 1, ranked.
10. Episode 2: “The Night Shift”
This is the first episode where “Poker Face” truly shows its hand, with promising structure if not the most compelling murder of the season. Sandwich artist and TikTok sensation Damian (Brandon Michael Hall) buys a winning lottery ticket from Sara (Megan Suri...

When Rian Johnson comes to television, he does so with a “big swing,” as music supervisor Thomas Golubić puts it. The multiple Emmy and Grammy nominee is on board for Johnson’s “Poker Face” starring Natasha Lyonne, who also executive produces the hour-long dark comedy.
A former Guild of Music Supervisors president, and three-time Gms Award winner, most notably for “Breaking Bad,” Golubic brings his more than 20 years of music supervision experience to “Poker Face.”
The first season put Golubić’s cross-section of skills to the test with hurdles like difficult clearances to on-camera musical performances and creation of original songs. Golubić met these challenges head-on with support from his team at SuperMusicVision, which includes Olivia Schlichting and clearance services by Jill Meyers Music.

[This story contains spoilers from the first four episodes of Peacock’s Poker Face.]
After emerging from another season of Russian Doll’s mind warp, Natasha Lyonne threw herself into a new character.
This time, it was Charlie Cale, the star of her and creator Rian Johnson’s new Peacock series Poker Face. And there are some big distinctions between Nadia — her time-looping and time-traveling lead on the formerly mentioned Emmy-winning Netflix series she co-created — and Charlie, her on-the-run “human lie detector” who anchors the murder mystery-of-the-week Peacock show.
“Nadia is a bit more of a city slicker. She’s got more Lou Reed in her. And Charlie is more like The Dude from The Big Lebowski,” Lyonne, who also writes, directs and executive produces for Poker Face, tells The Hollywood Reporter when comparing her two TV roles. “Charlie sort of has the sun at her back, lives in the desert. HBO’s highly-anticipated television adaptation of Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed video game “The Last of Us” is set to premiere on Sunday evening, and while the live-action version finds different performers filling the roles of the game’s characters, Merle Dandridge was tasked with reprising her role as Marlene in live-action form. An experience she admits was emotional and, at first, a little uncomfortable.
The series takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel (Pedro Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle a 14-year-old girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Within hours of the news of his death, tributes to Jeff Beck from the guitar greats rang out like a 21-string salute. “Jeff could channel music from the ethereal… his technique unique, his imaginations apparently limitless,” said Jimmy Page of this “six-string warrior” and “the spell he could weave around our mortal emotions”. Jeff Beck “was punk rock before punk existed,” declared The Edge. “The Salvador Dali of the guitar,” said Aerosmith’s Joe Perry; “an infinite source of joy,” claimed Stevie Van Zandt; an innovator, pioneer and profound influence, stated Dave Gilmour, Steve Hackett, Johnny Marr and Joe Satriani. The phrase “guitarist’s guitarist”, which could have been coined for Beck, had never felt more apposite.
But while the epithet honours Beck’s groundbreaking virtuoso skills – the liquid lines, ricochet riffs, mystical tones, feedback experiments and innovative techniques that stunned his fans and contemporaries – it underplays his significance and...

Horror is, without question, still the backbone of cinema, even as cinema struggles in these uncertain times. This year saw a number of wins for the genre; original movies like Smile, Barbarian, and X and its prequel Pearl achieved both critical acclaim and box office success, and franchises like Scream, Predator and Hellraiser were all reignited with praised returns.
Like last year, there were a lot of horror movies to watch in 2022. This resulted in movies slipping through the cracks as the year continued, and bigger releases held the spotlight.
These ten hidden gems might have been overlooked at the time, but it’s never too late to discover them.

There’s sad news to report today, as it has been confirmed that NFL player turned actor Brad William Henke has passed away at the age of 56. A cause of death has not been revealed, but Deadline reports that Henke’s family said he died in his sleep on November 29th.
Born in Nebraska on April 10, 1966, Henke played football at the University of Arizona before being drafted by the New York Giants in 1989. Amazon Studios is shaking up the leadership of its TV programming operations under Head of Television Vernon Sanders, I have learned. Marc Resteghini is stepping down as US/Global Head of Development, sources said. He is negotiating a producing deal with Amazon Studios. Nick Pepper, Head of Studio Creative Content, and Laura Lancaster, Head of Series, are expected to divvy up Resteghini’s responsibilities and co-run development and production of TV content, reporting to Sanders. MGM TV’s operations remain separate and do not factor into the current executive changes.
A rep for Amazon Studios declined comment.
Resteghini, Pepper and Lancaster were named to their most recent roles in early 2021 as part of an Amazon Studios TV restructuring that created the layer of three top programming positions reporting to then-Amazon Studios co-heads of TV Sanders and Albert Cheng (who also was COO).

Over a decade after the 2010 “Lost” finale, and star Ken Leung is ready for a spinoff.
The “Industry” actor said that a spinoff concept was pitched for his character Miles and Josh Holloway’s fan favorite Sawyer following the supernatural events of the original series.
“I know there was an idea being kicked around where Miles and Sawyer would have a ‘True Detective-style’ spinoff, but that would be so much its own thing that it wouldn’t feel like continuing ‘Lost,'” Leung told The Independent when asked if he would return for a follow-up series. “But on the face of it, sure. There’s nothing about ‘Lost’ where it’s like, ‘I never wanna do that again.’ So yeah, maybe.”
Leung continued, “I would love to go back to Hawaii. When I think of ‘Lost,’ I don’t think of the show as much as I think of Hawaii.

The first trailer for HBO's "The Last of Us" series was released today as a self-indulgent celebration of "The Last of Us Day," which commemorates the day the in-universe Cordyceps fungal infection took over the world. Grim? Maybe, but for fans of the game, there's plenty of exciting surprises and details in the trailer to savor on until the show releases next year.
A large cast of famous actors are portraying the game's many characters, from Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey playing Joel and Ellie all the way to Nick Offerman as Bill. Healy has been with the cast since Season 4, while Dandridge and Randall joined during Season 5.

The XYZ Films title from director Remy Grillo centers on a young couple (Hughes and Plasse) hoping to create an aesthetically pleasing audition tape for an up-and-coming Charles Manson film. When they choose an eclectic desert Airbnb as the perfect backdrop, the dark events of the audition material slowly slip into their reality, until they find themselves intertwined in an occult, sinister plot led by King and Grillo’s characters.
Plasse and Brev Moss wrote the script, which is inspired by modern occult activity in the California desert, with production to kick off in Yucca Valley, California this month.

Oscar-winning producer and influential motion picture executive Alan Ladd Jr., who ushered in the “Star Wars” era of motion pictures, died Wednesday. He was 84.
“With the heaviest of hearts, we announce that on March 2, 2022, Alan Ladd, Jr. died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Words cannot express how deeply he will be missed. His impact on films and filmmaking will live on in his absence,” his daughter Amanda Ladd-Jones, who directed the documentary “Laddie: The Man Behind the Movies,” wrote on the film’s Facebook page.
During his tenure at 20th Century Fox in the late 1970s, Ladd greenlit “Star Wars,” a $10 million sci-fi film that would become the yardstick for blockbuster movies and tentpole film franchises thereafter. He was the son of golden age film star Alan Ladd, best remembered for “Shane,” but in many ways, Ladd Jr. had a more substantial effect on Hollywood than did his famous dad.
