This film is going to have maximum rating from me because of the love for the form that can be seen in it.

This is a film made by someone who loves movies. It's incredibly consistent visually. It doesn't let itself fall in the trap of stellar technique in detriment of emotion and genuine care for the characters. At times the film felt like it was shot on film but it didn't seem to wrestle with that.

I liked very much the use of black of white and how creative it is with the editing - it tries a little bit of everything but it doesn't feel like it's showing off. It serves the story and the characters.

Like real honest, not Hollywood pretentious honest. It's a movie about bad people and is unapologetic that they don't end up having some redeeming quality. Like Trainspotting, it's what makes it fun (and funny). Also, the cinematography is flat out gorgeous. A lot of people won't watch black and white movies, but this one looks really good and adds to the overall style of the movie. Would I recommend it to someone who lives by the MCU? IDK but if you like movies like Trainspotting or A Clockwork Orange you'll get a kick out of this. I'm also from the midwest and love seeing NYC like this, reminds me of movies from the 70s like Serpico.
