Megalopolis director Francis Ford Coppola has joined Letterboxd, the social cataloguing service where members can rate and review films and keep track of what they’ve watched. I’m a little addicted. Coppola has shared a list of twenty films that he would recommend to any cinephile or aspiring filmmaker, which you can check out below.

According to a royal author, Kate Middleton is far from “Stepford Wife.” Instead, they’d describe the Princess of Wales, 42, as a “great role model” and a “solution finder.” Ahead, where the “Stepford Wife” comparison came from—hint: another royal author—and what Kate did that took “a lot of courage.”
Kate’s a ‘solution finder,’ not a ‘Stepford Wife’
“She was wrongly dubbed a ‘Stepford Wife’ in the past, which was really wrong because she’s able to do so many things,” Robert Jobson, author of Catherine, The Princess of Wales, told the Australian morning show Sunrise (via Newsweek).
The term is, per the outlet, a nod to Ira Levin’s 1972 novel, The Stepford Wives, which featured “robot-like serial housewives” and has, in the decades since, been used as a “derogative term to describe women.”
Rather, Kate is someone whom the biographer called “a great role model” and problem solver.

Seven Hours After Violet, the new project from System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian, have announced their self-titled debut album, out October 11th via Sumerian Records. The band also dropped another single, “Radiance.”
From the band name down through the freshly unveiled album art, Seven Hours After Violet are clearly tapping into a 2000s nu-metal aesthetic, which also translates to the music. “Radiance” traverses both heavy and melodic territory, signaled by the shifts between clean and harsh singing. The subtle electronic sampling during the instrumental breaks is a particularly nu-metal move.
Seven Hours After Violet consist of Odadjian on bass, singer Taylor Barber (Left to Suffer), guitarist Morgoth, singer-guitarist Alejandro Aranda, and drummer Josh Johnson (Winds of Plague). The band made its debut back in June with the excellent harsher “Paradise,” a Heavy Song of the Week selection.
“This album is the culmination of years of creative exploration,” remarked Odadjian in a press release.

Watching Richard Linklater's 1995 romantic drama "Before Sunrise," it's not hard to grasp why Frenchwoman Céline (Julie Delpy) is taken with the American Jesse (Ethan Hawke), a fellow 20-something traveler she encounters on a train ride back to Paris after visiting her grandmother. With flawless, floppy hair and a sensitive, intellectual manner, he's an alluring mystery waiting to be investigated at a time in her life when she's far more inclined to imagine how chatting up an amicable stranger on a train might lead to something remarkable (as opposed to how it could go profoundly wrong).
Jesse immediately sparks to her too, and they soon find themselves drawn to one another and engrossed in their ensuing conversation. Throwing caution to the wind as only impetuous, gorgeous young people who don't realize just how carefree they really are can, they agree to hit the pause button on their respective lives and...

Sean Penn and Dakota Johnson star in a two-hander that takes place in a New York City cab, as cabbie Penn drives a young passenger (Dakota Johnson) to her mid-town home from the airport. Along the way, they engage in a witty, sharp back-and-forth conversation, where the beautiful young woman holds her own against the talkative, opinionated older cabbie. Their conversation is wide-ranging at first but eventually centers on the relationships between men and women. Almost from the start, she is getting texts from her boyfriend, obnoxious horny, drunken texts, that she seems mostly reluctant to engage with. These two very different people, the older cabbie with old school attitudes and a young successful woman, chat, trade views, share secrets in a kind of competition, and so bare their souls to each other,...

Since 2020, the Oscar for Best Actress has exclusively gone to performers with more than 80 minutes of screen time in their respective films. These especially lengthy recent turns account for about one-fifth of the winning ones that have ever hit that benchmark in the 96-year history of the category. Scroll through our photo gallery to find out which 10 Best Actress-winning performances are the longest of all time.
This countdown is presented in terms of physical screen time, meaning any time an actress can actually be seen on screen or heard off screen. Moments involving silent and non-visible scene presence do not apply here. All 99 of this category’s winning performances were able to be counted, including the three that earned Janet Gaynor (“7th Heaven”; “Street Angel”; “Sunrise”) the inaugural prize in 1929 and the two from Katharine Hepburn (“The Lion in Winter”) and Barbra Streisand (“Funny Girl”) that tied for the 1969 honor.

The first film to win Best Picture at the Oscars was “Wings” in 1928. Until 1950, the Oscar was awarded to the studio or production company. Since then, it has gone to the credited producers and after five of them won for “Shakespeare in Love” in 1998, a cap of three has been set.
At the first Oscars, there were three Best Picture nominees. In each of the next three years, five films contended. The category was expanded to eight in 1933, to 10 in 1934, and to 12 in 1935, before going back to 10 in 1937. In 1945 it was cut to five and stayed that way until 2009 when it once again was raised to 10. Since 2011, there have been a varying number of nominees from five to 10, with champs including “The Shape of Water,” “Green Book” and “Parasite.”

Morgan Wallen is marking the one-year anniversary of chart-topper One Thing at a Time with the surprise-release of Abbey Road Sessions. The songs were recorded at the legendary Studio Two at Abbey Road Studios on Dec. 5, 2023.
“Playing the O2 in London last fall and getting to record at Abbey Road, where so much iconic music has been made, was legendary for me and my band. We will never forget it,” the country musician said in a statement about his trip, which included a sold-out show at the O2 for his first-ever show in London.

When it comes to romance, everyone knows that you shouldn't wait too long... Don't let all of life go by, and have the courage to say hi to someone before it's too late. That's the wisdom explored in this delightful new film from Iran titled My Favourite Cake (labeled as Keyke mahboobe man in the Berlinale line-up). The film is both written & directed by the Iranian filmmakers Maryam Moghadam and Behtash Sanaeeha, and premiered at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival in the Main Competition section (though it didn't win any awards). Unfortunately the two filmmakers are being kept in Iran, as the government took their passports and imposed a travel ban. Nonetheless, this film stands out within the Berlinale line-up as an entertaining-for-everyone heartfelt story of romance. The best compliment I can give is that it has the vibe of an Iranian Before Sunrise telling a charming story about two 70-year-old single,...

Plot: A man, Fallon (Alex Pettyfer) roams the land as a creature of the night as he comes to terms with tragic loss of his family at the hands of a brutal demagogue, Reynolds (Guy Pearce).
Review: “The Sun Never Sets On Evil” may just be the most generic tagline for a vampire film possible. So I understand if you, like myself, are trepidatious when it comes to Sunrise. The basic vampire formula has been used time and time again but I always appreciate it when someone has an interesting new vision. On the surface, this is a simple story of a vampire helping a family get justice. But it’s so much more than that. I’ve always believed that it doesn’t matter how generic the story is, so long as it executes those ideas. And Sunrise provides a beautiful tragedy with some wonderful performances.

Sunrise Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Alex Pettyfer, Crystal Yu, William Gao, Kurt Yaeger, Olwen Fouéré, Guy Pearce
Director: Andrew Baird
Sunrise Movie Review Out ( Photo Credit – Lionsgate Movies / YouTube )
What’s Good: Guy Pearce’s sharp performance as the detestable Joe Reynolds stands out, capturing the essence of a villain with racist ideologies and a sense of entitlement. The film occasionally succeeds in capturing the gritty essence reminiscent of top-tier vampire films, exploring the terrifying aspects of racism and violence.
What’s Bad: “Sunrise” grapples with generic dialogue, a lack of character depth, and an inconsistent exploration of its intriguing concepts. The film’s attempt to fuse a vampire story with themes of American racism feels awkward and lacks nuance. The narrative meanders through various genres, resulting in a slow and disorganized amalgamation of ideas.

Andrew Baird’s occult film, Sunrise, revolves around an immigrant family’s struggle for survival in America. The family’s savior, Falcon, holds a terrible grudge against the tormentor and makes him pay for his misdeeds. The macabre nature of the film can be compared to occult films like The Ritual and Apostle. The cast of the movie includes Guy Pearce and Alex Pettyfer. What is the concept of The Red Coat? Will Fallon be able to teach Reynolds a good lesson? Will Mrs. Loi and her children attain justice? Let’s find out!
Spoilers Ahead
What Happened To The Loi Family?
Reynolds, a staunch nationalist American, has been portrayed as extremely racist and is seen getting into a conflict with a peasant, Mr. Loi. Reynolds told Mr. Loi (a mongoloid) that since he was not the same race as him, he did not have a right to own land in America.
